Hi,

Just wanted to introduce msyelf, I will admit at the moment i do not have a lexus, i currently have a 350z but due to a change in Job i need a diesel and have always loved IS. I am therefore looking at the 220d.

I really value the owners forums and gained a lot of info from them when i bought my last car, and having researched this one and found there to be a few potential issues with the 220d.

I test drove one today, 2008, 65,000, had nearly full lexus service history. On the test drive it did seem flat before 2000rpm to the extent that it was hardly accelerating , i have driven diesels before and understand they are not very quick before the turbo kicks in, but it was not very smooth either, and in 6th on the motorway foot to the floor ( not a lot was happening which i expected) but it was juddering. This all gave me warning signs to walk away.

I checked the oil, and coolant and no tale tale signs of trouble there. In the end this was my first one i managed to drive so didnt want to rush it, so I did leave it.

I was wondering if it was possible if there was any one local to me (southampton, hampshire) that has a 220d that would possible take me for a quick drive so i know what is normal for this engine. Obviously i would come to you. Or any further advice would be much appreaciated.

Thanks in advance,

Chris

Welcome to the club. Nice car so enjoy it. I had a 220d SE-L MM unitl recently, it was the best car I had ever owned but now I've got a better one as I've moved to the IS250 SE-L MM. You will I'm sure, get a lot of pleasure from your new car. If it's as good as mine was you will be very pleased. the acceleration on mine was superb and, after I'd cleaned the EGR valve my mpg returns were brilliant. You will read a lot on here about the EGR Valve, you will do well to read the relevant threads.
