Rapid Brake Disc Wear.

Recommended Posts

Hello, Ive just had my Lexus is220 in for a major service and they told me that the front brake discs are nearly ready for changing. I cant believe it as they were changed only 15 months ago and ive only driven about 16k. They have checked the system and everything is balanced ok so im wondering whats going on. Im not a boy racer and i dont break hard so whats the problem.

I would either get a 2nd opinion and ask Lexus to provide the measured disc thickness and what the minimum recommended thickness is.

Put it this way my LS is 19 years old with 80,000 miles and is still on its original discs all round!

I know that there is a problem on the IS220 with the rear brake calipers.

They seize or stick so the one pad ends up rubbing against the disc all the time. Not enough to slow the car but enough to wear the discs away quicker.

Check that the calipers run over and back freely on the rail, this allows even braking pressure on both sides of the disc, and when you take your foot off the brake, the pads move away from the disc
