Guidance For Wiring Foot Wells To The Ignition Ring?

Recommended Posts

Alright so as the title states I'm looking for some guidance on doing this properly, I have found a couple of tutorials but due to their age the pictures no longer work and since the pictures play a vital part in the tutorial they are pretty much useless.

So..

What's the best way to go about this? I would like to install some white LED SMD footwells that match the ignition ring light and back seat roof light when switched to door mode (Fade out when Ignition starts)

Is it as simple as this:

1. Remove trim

2. Unscrew Ignition

3. Wire foot wells to the same circuit as the ignition ring

I have no experience with electrics so I do not want to make a rookie move and blow the entire electrics in the car.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Jon

Strange thing happens on the LOC for me. When ever i start thinking about something it pops up lol. Anyway im going to go for warm white LED OEM look, and dont want something overly bright. Ive also been thinking of doing some mood lighting maybe in the door handles, under passenger seats. not sure if ill end up doing it yet tho

Nice dude! I'm looking to put some matching white smd strips underneath the front seats for the rear passengers! But just need to know how to cable this all up properly before i start! :) How would you go about doing door handle lights?

Sounds awesome. Ive already tapped into the door markers loom for puddle lights and was easy enough. Well i dont want to drill holes in anything so this is why im still hesitant. Ill have to have a closer look at the levers see if anything can be done. In the grab handle to close the door theres a screw at the bottom, might take that out and see what a LED looks like poking thru :)

Where else?
Like you said under passenger seats and maybe under headunit at the back of that storage area. Ive already taken the ash tray out and wrapped in carbon wrap and put a LED in there :)

Yes it is as easy as you think. Ive done mine in blue. just break into the wiring right up near the ignition barrel ring and route a 2 core cable to each point in the footwell. you can pull the heated seat controls out to gain access round the back of the stereo to the front footwell, and then under the plastic cover that covers the edge of the carpet then under the carpet to the rear footwells. I just used a couple of through crimps and bobs your uncle.

Obviously you need to make sure you get your feed and neutral the right way round though.

Alright! So basically...

1. Remove lower trim (3 Screws, un-attach electrics and pull off)

2. Unscrew Ignition barrel (I haven't actually seen what's inside)

3. My LED strips are already placed as I have temporally wired them to the cigarette lighter lol!

4. Guide Red & Black cables up through to the ignition barrel

5. Connect both red together and both black together?

6. Connect the red wires to the same source as the Red/White? and the Black to the Blue/Yellow?

7. Put everything back together and bobs your uncle?

Is that right? If not, do you reckon you could write up a small tutorial with guidance photos, I think not only would it assist me in doing this right! But also a lot of other people that might think of have thought about doing this! All the other tutorials over the net are dead :( And no longer have access to the imagery

Cheers

Jon

Yes mate pretty much. If i remember though both wires for my ignition light were black (one had silver fleck) so you just have to find out which is which. If you would prefer i can still do a write up?

Top stuff Ben I'm going to be hiding 2 bulb holders back to back user both front seats wired to the courtesy light switch so when doors open lights shine into the footwells but everything is well out of the way as I had wiring under my dash before that fell down and under my feet
