is the 250 really that good compared to the 220d ,whot sort of mpg can i expect from the 250 and is it right that the 250 auto is cheaper on road tax than the manual.

Hi and welcome to LOC. :)

As Colin says the 250! Way too many reliability probs with the 220d, head gasket, DPF etc etc... No such problems with the 250.

Yes the 250 auto is cheaper on tax, I think £270 per year where as the manual is £470? Don't quote me on that but I know there's a big difference and I know the manual is def over £400 per year.

Yes it most definitely is. I have owned both.

If you have one of the good 220's you can get 38 mpg around town and 46-54 mpg on a good run. I see many reports of people getting 32 and 39 from their 220d.

From the 250 you can expect 27-31 around town/short runs and 39-40mpg on a run.

My 250 auto is £270pa, I believe the manual 250 to be £460pa.

If you are not doing biggish mileage per year then in all honesty I would say go for the 250......no debate.
