i see true to form,as with all there ideas the 80mph speed limit,on motorways is to be shelved, they seem to annouce these policies, then quietly drop them, this was supposed to help the economy,i dont know about this, but now its not going to happen,i know on the motorway ,theres not too many people at 70 anyway, course the green party and greenpeace, you know the people with pushbikes and sandals, have put their oar in,they reckon it would make an extra 2.2 million tons of carbon emmissions ,how do you calculate that?,as lot of people already speeding i would'nt of thought it would make that much difference, this limit was made back in sixties, for ford anglias and the like.what do you think?

If the speed limit remains 70Mph and they still don't catch people doing 80Mph (like they don't now), then so be it. The objective is more or less achieved?

I understand that one probably wouldn't get stopped for speeding if you're not exceeding the speed limit by 10% + 2mph : 70 = 77+2 = 79 mph and you're safe !

Exactly!

An indicated 80mph with cruise control will probably be around 77-78mph.

Speed limits are being reduced not increased personally I think to make the accident figures look good without having to spend money making improvements, locally I have seen "National (60MPH)" limits reduced to 50 or even 40.

These are mainly on rural A roads, funny thing is you pass a narrow twisty country lane off these roads and it remains at the "National 60" limit!!!

It won't be long before we're back to 1878... I've already bought my large red flag and with nearly 3 million unemployed I'm sure I can find someone to walk with it in front of my car at 4 MPH!
