Hand Brake

Recommended Posts

There is a service hole on the drum/disc that needs to be positioned at 6 o clock to access the adjuster. I would recommend taking the rear discs off to inspect your handbrake as it could be something loose as was on mine. However could be just too tight like you said. If so loosen it fully and then tighten it 8 notches to be at default position.

Not wanting to be picky, but the procedure is the opposite of what you've said. You tighten the drum brakes until they lock the drum from turning, then back them off 8 clicks. After which you adjust the hand brake lever travel, using the adjuster mounted to the rear of the hand brake lever.

But yes, make sure you give the inside assembly a good inspection. Yesterday I ended up skidding down the road because something had become dislodged inside the assembly and bent all sorts of parts up. However, I'm yet to find out what the part was that was free inside the drum as it isn't listed on the Lexus assembly break down.

advisable to check your brake shoes and drum. it could be sticking. how many clicks you got on the brake lever ?

as mentioned above post is the correct way of adjusting the handbrake.. it could be too tight aswell. .

if its on the tight side try loosening it on the brake lever 1st then take it from there.

if still not sure, then drive down the road :driving: & do a handbrake turn. it ought to fix the squeal :hehe:

kidding
