3 Or 4 Dot Brake/ Clutch Fluid

You can use either DOT 3 or 4.

DOT 4 is the improved version of DOT 3 and has a slightly higher boiling point (215/230C), not so important in a clutch system but more so for braking.

Do NOT use DOT 5 as this is a silicon base fluid and may cause damage to seals and hoses in a system not specifically designed for it.

With DOT 3 being superceeded by DOT 4 I would think any DOT 3 still available would be old stock so maybe best to avoid and go for the DOT 4.

The most important factor is to make sure the fluid you use is fresh, don't use a part used bottle that's been stood for example on a shelf in the garage for 2 years, brake fluid absorbs moisture which lowers its performance hence the service requirement for regular replacement.
