How did you get on spybey?

The P2002 is definitely the DPF code and not the EGR. When you reset the code it usually comes on by around 21 miles or so. It happened to me some time ago and i tried additives, I tried resting the fault code 3 seperate times by seperate garages using different gear, finally I got it sorted by a specialist in the West Midlands and it's been around 27,000 miles so far with no issues at all.

They are called Car Surgeon Ltd 07853355415 DPF Rejuvenation / Regeneration

Highly skilled specialists with so much knowledge with Jap Cars and DPF's in particular.

Hi Kevin B,

Thanks for the post, I had seen the thread when I was having the problems. Sound like they know what they are doing. So what did they exactly do to your car, just a forced regen?

I am aware the MOT rules have changed in Feb about the particular filter but my plan was just to slice it open remove the guts and reinstall. So technically it would still be there, as long as it passes the emissions test it should be fine, I hope. I have herd that you need to cap the fifth injector and the emulator tells the ecu that the filter is there and working. But true fully I haven't had the balls to do it yet lol.

It been about 4 weeks 600 miles since I had the fault, I just put a tub of wynns dpf cleaner in and haven't had the problem since. Since the cleaner I've been using a fuel additive and all has been good. My mpg is still the low side of 30, but since owning the car it has never really higher than 34 mpg I do a lot of short journeys down country lanes so never get to a cruising speed and for ever changing gears. On a long run it use to go up to 47 mpg, so I'll have to see when I next do one. Apart form that the car drives fine.

It is apparently short stop start journeys that kill DFPs as they do not get to the required temperatures to regenerate or if they do begin the process do not finish the cycle.

It may be an idea to occasionally take the car out on an extended spirited drive.

These amongst other unreliable and expensive devices are once again forced upon us by EU regulations, one day we will get to the point where emissions will be required to be zero, I actually achieved that whilst at school in the 70's by shoving the proverbial potato up a teacher's car exhaust pipe!

Latest Euro 10 emissions compliance requires a Maris Piper inserted up the tailpipe :)

Thanks Steve2006, when I bought the car just over a year ago I was aware the short distances I do may play havoc with the DPF. But back then you could legally take the out.

How can you tell when the DPF is in regen? Or how hard/ long do you have to drive to put it in regen?

I took the car for a hard drive the other week to try and clear it out and was planning on making it a regular thing.

LOL!

Hi Kevin B,

Hi Garry.

They removed the DPF, put it into a vat which had some patented fluid present and then they removed it from the vat and put it into another vat which also had a patented chemical in it that was produced by the same company.

All in all, the DPF was left to saturate in the first vat for around 3 hours and only 5 minutes in the second one.

Once the DPF was removed from the second vat it was left to drip dry for a couple of minutes and then reconnected to the car. That is the "Rejuvenation" stage.

They then started the car and connected a lap top via the OBD port and let the car run in the car park for around 20 minutes.

After around 5 minutes the exhaust started to chug out vapor which was dark in colour for around 7 minutes and then it cleared up completely. That is the "Forced Regeneration" stage.

It was then taken for a spin at normal pace for around 21 miles and the lap top was still in use in order to conduct DATA TRIALS to monitor all systems. The chap told me that they usually do around 21 miles on the IS220d only as the CHECK VSC light can take around 7 miles to come back on so they clock 21 miles as an over kill measure.
