Brake Pad Dust On White Rims?

Recommended Posts

So she arrived, waiting at the dealer, I’ll go tomorrow to say hi. Will need to wait two more weeks before picking the car up as the local tax law changes and the car will actually be cheaper in April by considerable margin, so no brainer here, but still it’s going to be even more excruciating.
In the meantime, I’m hunting for accessories to pass the time… For this I’d need some advice -
  1. Do you experience a lot of brake pad dust on your front wheels? I’m considering white, and somewhat flashy rims, where black stuff would easily be visible, and surely annoying. On the other hand I don’t have too much problem with this on my current car (probably drive conservatively then) and I would expect hybrid to make use of conventional brakes even less often. Your thoughts?
  2. Regarding flashiness. I love consistency in design and form, and was considering these white rims. I think this would match well the car (it’s going to be white, of course). After spending a better part of the night podenring the switch, however, I’m having seconds thoughts on whether it complements the classy form of the car, or substracts from it rather. Would welcome some cool-headed opinion. And be open, if necessary, please. On the other forum I saw some disastrous effects of tuning shops' and owners creativity, usually involving black vinyl in random places, dropping the car half a mile, or - for this matter - putting fancy rims on it. Am I trying to do the same?
Thanks a million!
And here we go (I would try to get rid of the fiery-rocky logos):

And in context (not nearly lexy enough, sorry!):

Personally I am not a fan of white wheels. They are incredibly hard to keep clean! For that reason alone I would never buy them. If you are anal with keeping your car clean it will cause you many sleepless nights!

Yup, already know it's totally impractical. Just wondering if they're sexy enough to justify the pain. : )

I can't quite make my mind up on whether they enhance or detract from a styling point of view. I think, for me, on balance probably detract.

The killer would be the dirt issue so I'm a no.

They may look fantastic in the showroom but as soon as you drive away it's all downhill. alloys, white, silver, grey metallic, look great until they are dirty or curbed, I am sure if alloys had not been invented and we were all still using plastic trims what a less stressful life it would be. I know this is a silly comment but whenever I park the first thing I think of is my wheels, then is the space big enough, then is it a shed on wheels next to me and so on.

Sometimes I wish I did not love cars and could drive around in something I had no love for.

On another subject, hi Stuart, great to see another biker on here?

Nothing silly about your comments, I agree, my F Sport wheels are lovely for a few hours after they have been cleaned and the stress levels on parking so as not to curb them.....

Thanks guys for all your input. Life is not easy, ha. I tend to think now they may indeed be dectracting from a styling point of view. Probably drawing too much attention to the wheels, and this being irrespectively of them clean or not... Considered also grey / gunmetal / titanium coloured but here the main gripe would be curbing them, as you also pointed out. Would have to park 0,5 m from the edge of the street and probably risk losing driver side wing mirror, not pleasant either! On the plus size - scratching these, being white / silver wouldn't be heartbreaking.

Oh well, I'll probably stay with stock 16s for now. They do look too insignificant for me though.
