Flat Battery And Not Charging

Hi . My 2007 IS220D Battery is suddenly completely flat - Its a relatively new Battery (18 months) and will not turn the engine at all. Can jump start and run the car - but Battery remains flat. If I try to start it on its own I get a rapid clicking sound and dash lights and all warning lights flicker on and off very quickly. All I can do to stop that is then disconnect the Battery - Strange behaviour when I got car running - can operate drivers window but none of the others - also driver window will not operate in 'auto' mode. Have left to auto electrician and am awaiting a call but wanted to ask if this was a common or known issue ?

Any advice appreciated !

Thanks

Agree, alternator is the prime suspect or the Battery has failed prematurely. Any decent autoelectrician should be able to diagnose the problem either way.

PS when was the last time you check the Battery electrolyte levels (distilled water)?

Oh and welcome to the LOC :)

Thanks Steve

Have never checked electrolyte levels - Don't really open the bonnet if I can avoid it. Have had the car 4 years now and apart from the well documented EGR issues this is the only time it has let me down.

May sound stupid...but check your Battery connections are properly secure and if you can, investigate the earth strap security to the bodywork. That has been known to be an issue on some cars. If the Battery is only 18 months old its still in warranty if you have paperwork or proof of some sort.....duff batteries do happen....albeit rare.
