Hey all,

Was browsing the U.S. site today, when I saw one of these: http://www.qwikvalve.com

Anyone tried one or has one? I really liked the one in the video with the (oooer!) nipple, would save oily dribbles on the drive!

Whilst it would be convenient to have a oil drain valve instead of plug, the thing I like least is changing the filter, if only that was less messy!

Thanks all.

Chris

Hmmm, well maybe over in the States it sells well, after all they seem to have an obsession with changing oil so frequently!

Personally to me it just seems to be a possible source of failure, when was the last time your oil drain sump nut failed and let all your engine oil out at 70mph on the M1?

If crawling around under the car to drain the oil is not something you want to do, invest in a good suction pump/device for extracting the old oil through the dipstick tube, after all that's what most garages do nowadays.

I agree with your sentiments about oil filters though, easiest and least messy to change I have found have been the MB and BMW type cartridge filters where there is no spillage involved.

Reading up, it appears the RX350 ('06 onwards) has a cartridge... Bit jealous!

Does it? I didn't think the engine had changed that much..........hmmm

Can somebody with a later model confirm please, or just check to see if the filter is still a canister type tucked under the forward exhaust manifold?

Hi Mr Boxbrownie,

Straight from the official Lexus eBay (I kid you not!) page:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Lexus-300-GS-300-RX-350-450-Oil-Filter-04152YZZA1-/251664188097?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3a985ac2c1

I cross checked the part number with Toyota's online parts page and was reassured to see that the prices were identical!

I wonder if they can be retrofitted to our RX300's?

Ta,

Chris.
