  6. Had these fitted yesterday by Lexus, quite pricey to fit but I think it adds a bit more shape to the car. £115 +VAT Thoughts?
  7. Lovely colour!! Wonder if that will suit my grey RX Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  8. Yeah they look good, did it affect your insurance? Sent from my iPad using Lexus OC
  9. Can I see a pic of them on the car? I considered buying another after market wheel, but its do hard to get something that looks good on a car.... My wheels are the sort of smoked silver ones....
  10. When I say offer me, they meant for me to pay, they offered it as a cheaper option than £1.5k for a set of 4 new wheels
  11. Interesting, yes that does make me feel a little better, thanks, sorry for you though. THey did offer their exchange program on a set of refurbed wheels from Pristine Wheels, but what concerns me is I know my wheels have never been so much as tapped let alone bashed through a pot hole or anything, I go to great lengths to look after my car. If I buy a refurbed wheel on their exchange program what is to say that the wheels I am getting have been bashed, repaired and resprayed. I think I will take the hit, lose my car for a couple of days and get my wheels done myself so i know my wheels are in good nick, other than the paint.
  12. Thanks Stu, good reply.... Makes sense.
  13. I know this topic has probably been played out here, but I have to share this with you and would love to hear your thoughts. I have a Lexus RX400h '56 Plate which I purchased nearly new as it was previously a Lexus owned vehicle with hardly any miles on it, it is well below average mileage at 64k miles and is now 7.5 years old. My wheels are in a shocking state, they have never been kerbed, never bashed or mistreated and I have only ever used Supaguard cleaning products on the car as recommended by Lexus and the paint is bubbling and falling off the wheels. I have been with Lexus 10 years and spent well in excess of £80k with them over the 10 years and they are not prepared to help me, which has really upset me. I know the car is 7.5 years old, but I would have thought that Lexus would recognise that their wheels are not up to a good enough standard? Anyway, I emailed matt.harrison@tgb.toyota.co.uk who is the GB CEO of Lexus and got a response from Samantha Betts, which I think is a made up name that the department uses and I also believe I got a standard letter from them. I appreciate partly what Lexus are saying, but I have purchased all my cars through Lexus, 1 new and 2 nearly new, spent a fortune with them and they have just shut me out like it counts for nothing with this rediculous response. I feel helpless and really disappointed in their complete lack of support. Am I being unreasonable to ask Lexus to come to the party on this? Should I expect a set of well treated wheels to only last 7 years? I have been asked by our President and Managing Director, Matt Harrison, to thank you for your email dated 24 March 2014 and to respond on his behalf. I was sorry to learn of the difficulties you have experienced with the alloy wheels on your Lexus RX 400h and apologise for the disappointment this has caused. I appreciate you have taken every care to protect your vehicle and having discussed the matter with Lexus Reading, it is clear this unfortunate corrosion has not been influenced by you in any way. When product issues arise outside of the manufacturer’s warranty period we do try to provide an out of warranty goodwill contribution, especially for our loyal and longstanding customers. Unfortunately, we cannot offer this support indefinitely and I regret to advise you we are unable to offer a contribution towards repairs costs on this occasion. I am sorry for the additional disappointment this will cause. We work in conjunction with Pristine Alloy Wheel Refurbishers to offer customers quality replacement wheels at a reduced price and I understand this is the wheel Lexus Reading have suggested. Whilst I understand your comments, I would like to assure you about their refurbishment process. Pristine individually inspect wheels before the work starts and follow an 11 step refurbishment process. We have found the wheels they produce to be of exemplary quality. I am sorry we are unable to respond in a more helpful and positive manner and I realise our response will come as a further disappointment to you. For this I can only apologise. Yours sincerely Samantha Betts Customer Relations Executive
  14. 1.Can you play a DVD on the headrest screens and have the sound come through the cars audio system so every body can hear it. (ie, a music dvd with videos, so can be watched from rear and heard in all car) Yes, this can be done. I am having it done on my car very soon for £169. However! I do not have the Lexus ICE in my headrests, I have one fitted through Lexus when I brought the car by a company called John Kleis Audio in Reading on 01189 866224, it is identical to the Lexus ICE in appearance, but better quality system. As I have an Ipod adapter fitted to the "CD Boot Changer" input they can not connect the audio out of the DVD player to that, if yours is still free perhaps that have an adapter to fit to that on yours assuming you dont have the ipod adapter. So they are going to take the audio out through a module and attach that through the FM ariel, so its between your ariel and the car stereo. They will fit a switch to turn the module on and off. If it is on and you play a film in the back it will over ride the radio, when you turn it off you are back to headphones on the rear screens and normal FM on the car stereo again. 2.Can a dvd be played in the rear and watched on the front screen aswell so the front passenger can watch it. Dont know, I would imagine this is more complicated and in breach of the Lexus audio system protocols of disabling when driving.
  15. Thanks for that Neil, really helpful I will look at the link you have posted now...
  16. Thanks for the interesting replies. Well I decided to go and do some accurate testing as I have used V Power for many many years and its almost an addiction that I feel I have to use v power only, which can be a pain when you are down to a quarter of a tank as you have to plan in where the nearest Shell is, I even flicked on the petrol station POIs on my sat nav. So recently as my local Shell closed for refurb, I was forced to put in normal fuel 95RON and I decided to reset my MPG and see what happens. I drive exactly the same route every day and drive the same way. I have not done long journeys or anything to give a false figure, nor have I changed anything, i.e. heated seat, load or aircon use. So this is a spot on representation of one persons use. On V-Power 99RON fuel, I was consistantly getting between 29.8 - 30 MPG, I am not heavy footed with the throttle, but I do have a few hills, traffic and queues around and some areas where you need a bit of oomf to get out of junctions. Car performed well, I could not comment on the sound of the engine if it were smoother or not, its bloomin quiet and purrs as usual. On normal 95RON fuel, Over a lot of mileage since posting this post in Feb, I am now consistantly getting 31.5 - 31.7 MPG which no matter how hard I tried I would never see with v-power on my routes, I feel no difference at all in performance or any change in smoothness of the engine. Plus I have the added bonus that I can fill up anywhere now! So in summary, I think v-power makes no significant difference to the Lexus RX400h at all and is a waste of money, especially at todays fuel costs. Keep in mind, I am very pro v-power as I definitely felt performance advantages when I used it in my Subaru STi and BMW Z3 M-Coupe which I used to own, so I believe there are models of cars that will benefit from the fuel but I would question if it is more efficient as I only got 18MPG in the STi, but that was a stupid car to own and run. So there you go, that is my findings and I think there is a very fair and accurate representation for anyone out there who is considering it. :)
  17. I have been advised by my Lexus service centre to go here to look at updating my satnav DVD. My current version in my RX400h is 2006/2007 - Ver2 apparantly. I went here - Lexus Map Updates and put in my part number on the disk. My question is, has anyone else ordered a new DVD? Apparantly it also unlocks the menus that previously greyed out when you were driving, so you can select things whilst on the move.
  18. I have exactly the same thing on my RX400h where under light braking I could swear the brakes stop working for a split second, but it is always on bumpy surfaces and as previously mentioned I put it down to that, i.e. the wheel bumps off the surface of the road and loses traction for a split moment or my foot is bouncing fractionally on the brake pedal. I am not overly concerned as it has never happened when I really did not want it to, its always as I am gradually braking, slowing for a queue of traffic or junction. It is a weird sensation and my wifes BMW does not do it, it only seems to be noticeable on the RX
  19. I am after some advice from all the RX400h people out there. I have always filled up my car with Shall v-power 99oct fuel. Ages ago I heard somewhere that all Jap cars perform better on 99oct fuel rather than the standard 95oct, better in fuel economy and acceleration. Its almost like OCD that I have to now fill with Shell v-power and I sort of want to go back to 95oct, but feel like I am downgrading my car if I do this. What are you thoughts on fuel, do you think stick with v-power or do you think there is nothing in it between these fuels? Any feedback or advice would be gratefully received.
  20. Mine has dropped off, but I put it down to having the heating all the time and occasionally putting on my heated seats. In the summer my engine is off by the end of my road, in the winter the engine stays on long enough until I have a warm cabin. I normally have my temp at 22. I have to say I have never seen 35mpg in my car and I am very light on the throttle and careful how I drive. I consistantly get 30mpg and have gone down to 29mpg.
  21. I had the same thing in a pub car park, locked fine but would not unlock! I got home and tried again and it worked, Lexus said some areas interfere with it.
  22. I recently had the IPod adapter fitted into my RX400h, it is excellent and I highly recommend it. I have put a review in the audio section. IPod Adapter
  23. Thought I would post up the Lexus IPod adapter I have had installed in my RX400h and give a bit of a review on it. I know a lot of peeps have this, but for those who don’t, perhaps this will help you decide if you want to get one or not. I am no expert, but happy to answer any questions as best I can. I was very lucky to have this installed for my Xmas present by my wife, she secretly had it added to the car when it was in for a service in December 2009. I said after Xmas I was going to get it installed, but she surprised me with it instead. As I was going to get it installed, I know the price was £285 fitted, there are probably cheaper options out there, but I am not that bothered, this works well and I am happy. So the Lexus IPod adapter... As you can see in the image below you get a lovely Lexus display when you connect it to the car. When it is connected all the controls on the IPod are disabled, so you can not adjust volume, settings etc from the IPod. If you need to unplug it you just pull the plug, there is no need to do any disconnecting process like when you are connected to a PC. The IPod stops and starts when the car is stopped and started, it only starts when selected by you, so if you are listening to FM, it stops. It also is charged by the car when the ignition is on. The only evidence of the IPod adapter being installed is a discreet cable in the glove box, which is perfect as all the control for the IPod is done from the car system anyway. I was advised by Lexus that these adapters work better on the full LCD SATNAV version of the stereos as they display the Playlists, I would tend to agree with that. As you can see below if this was the only display you had it would be quite hard to find a track you want, unless you have a good memory for numbers which I don’t! I will explain below. The adapter is basically plugged into the CD port in the back of the stereo. I did not realise you do have the option for a CD changer in the boot as well as the 6 discs the head unit takes and when you press the Disc button twice, it flicks from the front changer to the boot changer. So they have basically tapped into the CD changer input. This means that all the controls for the IPod are CD based, i.e. if you select CD number 3 your IPod will play Playlist number 3. This is where a bit of an annoyance starts to emerge, but don’t worry it is outweighed by the fact you now have a working IPod adapter you can control from your steering wheel. So, in ITunes I had to do some thinking as I had to use Playlists, which I have never bothered with in the past. So how did I want to group my Music in a sensible way so I could find my Music whilst on the move (yes, it still locks you out of the track list when you pull away, so you can’t rely on that). I grouped my music into chill out, Modern Pop and Jazz etc playlists, oh and The Prodigy got their own play list as I have 3 albums on there, so as you can see I named the playlist "The Prodigy". So how do you select the playlists whilst trundling along in your car? There are a few ways and unfortunately you need to switch between both to get to all the lists, unless I have missed something from the manual. Select Audio so your LCD is displaying the options as above, and you can tap the screen to select one of the six playlist you want, it displays the name of the playlist even when moving, so you now know you are in the list you want. As you can see though it only displays 6 buttons, so what if you want to get to playlist 7, 8, 9 etc. You then have to click on the main head unit and select “Disc” up or down to get out of that screen to the next, this will then take you on to another screen of 6 buttons, where your next 6 playlists are displayed. Ok, so here is the first irritation, if I select playlist 3 and track 4, I am happily listening, pull up and park, switch off the engine and go to work. The IPod as expected stops and turns off. I turn on the engine later when going home and it’s still playing track 4 “Woh ho!”, but now in playlist 1 “Ehh!” By default playlist 1 appears to be all the tracks on the IPod in a row and it defaults back to that, which is annoying so when you reach the end of the album you were listening to, you will be taken off through all your tunes on the IPod. I believe you can set RPT in various ways that may resolve this, i.e. fix it to RPT the playlist, but I have not tried that. After you are in your list you can then use the track up and down to select the track you want to listen to. Another slight annoyance is I have made some of my playlists a little too big and whilst you are on the move you have to click “next track” a lot of times to get to the track you wanted! So I am not sure if I want 20 playlists with 10 tunes each or 10 playlists with 20 tunes each. Will have to play with that and see. Finally, another consideration is the quality of the music, I think ITunes defaults to 128 Kbps AAC and I don’t think at that level it sounded great in the high quality Lexus sound system, so I went over the top and redone all mine as 320 Kbps MP3. Definitely sounds better and I did not mind as I have loads of space on my IPod, but it is something you want to consider if you are particular about the quality of your sound. So there you go, my probably too long review. Hope it helps.........
  24. I think you will be fine with a high mileage RX, they have to be good for a lot more miles than 100k! Also you get 5 years warranty from new on all Hybrid parts, so you still have cover for the cells. May be worth getting them checked depending on what sort of mileage the car has done, i.e. a lot of town or motorway use
  25. I also had an IS250, never went in the snow with it. I remember it had a snow button, what did that do and did it not help?
