  1. I have absolutley no problem with threads/posts being removed. What does cause me concern is if they are removed without notifying the poster. Also if you want to avoid being sued be careful revealing that this forum is moderated If you do admit moderation it needs to be 24/7 throughout the year So are you saying its illegal to moderate a public forum? I don't understand and I'm confused. The mods do a good job deleting SPAM and other material that doesn't belong on a Lexus owners forum. Chris the point Mike was making is if you are the moderator then you could be assuming responsibility for any libellous content or any other legal challenges. It is probably not that much of a problem in the UK but......what do I know. Steve and the other staff do a great job and we all appreciate their efforts. Bren
  2. I agree with scythe and go so far as to say that there is a bit of MK4 LS400 bias/biggotry on the forum - however I can hold my own so don't really mind. I've owned two of them and know they are great cars but so are many others. Beer, cars and women are all very personal choices. I did think the 460 sales pitch was a bit rich - however it was informative and perhap the mods could have asked the poster to edit it rather than delete it or upgrade to Gold and sell it properly. The rules are the rules and the poster was taking the P. I must admit I am not keen on the front end looks of many of the current crop of new cars they are very agressive (including the Lexus) and the new 460 photo shoot confimed that - it is annoying that all the car designers seem to follow each other like sheep. Not like us on this forum :) Bren
  3. No LS400 listed. They dont love us anymore. Mike Ha you blokes who drive those old clunkers have a good reason to upgrade now I have a sneaky feeling that the same schedule as the 430 will work. It is a bit of a surprise they dropped the 400 off already. I only looked for it because Martin asked about the brake fluid change schedule and it reminded me that mine may be due for change - however I changed all 4 callipers at Christmas which is why the brake fluid looks new. Is there a village out there building a new idiot? If so I have a brain they may be interested in Bren "Old Clunkers" How very dare you. Wash your mouth out young lady. Had it not have been for the MK1,2,3 & 4 LS400 there would never have been any LS430 etc. Mike Ha ha ha - you are easy Mike - I had 3 of those "old clunkers". I used to buy them new every two years (the best car you have ever seen or heard about) which is why I now have a 430 (which is a re-skinned 400). I'll need a gallon of fairy liquid for my massive mouth Bren

  5. I found this very useful link - put in your model and mileage and it tells you what needs to be done at service time - there is also a full grid of jobs vs mileage. It only goes up to 150K but we should all be able to extrapolate. https://secure.drivers.lexus.com/lexusdrivers/info/my-lexus/service/maintenance-schedule.do Bren
  6. Hi Martin I would follow the service recommendations (every 2 years or 30K miles?) - check your history as well. It is possible to have the fluid checked for water content etc - if it looks bad then I would change it - especially if you don't know when it was last changed. Mine is not that new (nearly 2 years - I need to check) and looks as good as new. Bren
  7. I am surprised Sytner (Birmingham) will work on your LPG conversion the Milton Keynes branch (who are good) will not - they told me it is their group's policy. I have to go to Listers in Coventry. Good news for you - I think I'll check with them again they may have changed. Bren
  8. Here is a tutorial on how to do it on a 400 http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/cooling/coolant.html Bren
  9. Hi All just thought that I would update this post. The key just started working all by itself, which has been the case with a few problems we have had with this car, like the door mirror & a faulty engine sensor. The drivers side rear door is now playing up & will not close! If your key is acting up it may just need a new battery - they are a CR2032 and very inexpensive (£1.50) look on youtube for a video on how to do the job - it is very simple but you need to know what to do so you do not damage the case. The dealer will charge you a sillyammount for this. Also interferance can cause problems with the keys radio - my phone in my pocket will do it. Good luck Bren
  10. The red (pink) propylene glycol based stuff at any car spares will do the job. If you have had the water system worked on then it is important the mechanic knew what they were doing when it was refilled. I had a pain with mine because they did not clear an air lock. Just topping up the expansion tank will not get the job done - I would get back to the mechanic to sort it out very quickly. I had extra fun because my thermostat also went at the same time. You will find that the level in the expansion tank is sometimes below the minimum - and in my case always. If I fill it up it returns to that level - don't forget the tank is for expansion not a reservoir for the system when it loses coolant – it should never lose coolant! When you start from cold the thermostat will be closed (the thermostat is not there to control the engine temp but to allow it to warm up quickly – once open it stays that way until the engine cools which never happens when running.) so the water pump will push water into the expansion tank and the level will rise. If the level goes to high the excess will go out of the overflow and when the thermostat opens you will see the level in the expansion tank drop and this can be below the low line. So you top up the tank and the cycle repeats – however I know nothing (I have just lived the dream) so have somebody who knows what they are doing check the car – I had a small water leak when the car warmed up because some clown did not put a clip on the radiator bottom hose after I had the rad replaced. I was lucky because I was close to home and kept my eye on the gauge. Good luck Bren
  11. Not entirely true messi - Sytner will not so I cannot use the delaer in MK so have to go to Coventry that is owned by Listers who will. Bren
  12. Yes it has a thread on both ends 10mm to tank & the other end to accept European adaptors. I use an adaptor when abroad and have no problems but I do see signs at petrol sations saying do not use an adaptor when filling with LPG - has anybody ever had a "Jobs worth" stop them filling up when using an adapter in the UK? I like the neatness of the small filler port but would have to have around 10 spare adaptors in the glove box - for obvious reason (that usally rides in the passenger seat) :) I think it would be a little annoying to mess about screwing in the adapter when filling up but if you are happy great. I had a hole banged in the body along side the petrol filler cap for ease of operation - I see people with their fillers down at the bumper which seems a big pain (in the back) having to bend down that far to fill up - especially when getting fat and old :) I liked the comment about the filler needing to be lower than the tank because LPG is heavier than air so it would be safer if there is a leak :) - petrol vapour is also heavier than air. Bren
  13. Hi Mike As I am about to attack my Nav DVD I looked out my workshop data disk - I may be an electronics engineer but I am not an auto electrician. However there are front and rear control valves for the system so I suppose there may be a fault in one of them. Here are 4 pages from the service CD - wiring diagram and system outline that tells you how it works. You may already have the disk or if you want PDFs (even with my core skills I cound not work out how to post files :) ) PM me and I can email them. http://s1336.photobucket.com/user/snarler45/media/emas-r-page-001_zps9337bd6d.jpg.html?sort=3&o=3 http://s1336.photobucket.com/user/snarler45/media/emas-routline-page-001_zps75c617cb.jpg.html?sort=3&o=2 http://s1336.photobucket.com/user/snarler45/media/emas-routline-page-002_zpsfa6ede1f.jpg.html?sort=3&o=1 http://s1336.photobucket.com/user/snarler45/media/emas-routline-page-003_zpsd77b9857.jpg.html?sort=3&o=0 430 Nav system or mow the lawn? 14. As a result of case law the Sale of Goods Act or part thereof does apply even to private sales If you as a private seller mislead a buyer then you can sued. This came about because a private house buyer had been mislead by the private seller. The Sale of Goods Act is the Common Law made statute. Also whilst not stated in so many words I think their ad makes it clear they are a dealer You cannot compare an ebay aution to the sale of a house that is subject to a contract and a lot of regulation. If these guys are traders then they are subject to full redress - there are a lot of regs and they cover distance selling but they exclude internet auction sites specifically. It is not allowed for a trader to mascarade as a private seller - trading standards will not like that. It would be great to hear from one of the winners, of the ebay auctions that this car has been the lot, why they did not buy. Bren Hi Bren, The cars that I was involved with from these guys had dozens of faults and some of them were serious ie no brakes but the car had a new MOT and was described as being in great condition. They are well known in this area and would not be surprised to see them starring in Watchdog. Mike Don't missunderstand me - I am sure they are traders and I am sure they are selling old "Rovers" and any sensible person should steer well clear. As Mike said we should all get back to enjoying our cars - or in my case fixing the Nav system DVD player in my 430 :(. Bren

  16. Hi Mike All of your points are very good but you have to bear in mind this is a private sale - it is like you coming round to my house to buy my old computer - they are not operating as a trader if they sell in this way so all the protection is negated. If you paid for this car with paypal they would probably say we will not protect you. Bren
  17. Wow a lot of passion here :) I should point out that ebay auctions are not binding sales in law. If you do not pay you cannot be sued for breach of contract. If you are buying on an auction site like ebay then it is caveat emptor - the distance selling rules do not apply. This is why paypal offers protection etc. The distance selling rules (buying off the internet) are in place because it is not possible to see the goods before they are shipped, like in a shop, so you have the right to ask for a refund within 7 days and it has to be given - even before you ship the goods back - however auction sites are specifically excluded from this. In this case they do seem to be fair because they let you walk away without even negative feedback - WHY? Also why does this car keep coming back? It is not posted as a classified sale i.e. not an auction so it seems to be a private sale/ebay lot - so you are on your own. I don't think they are offering the car as a trader so it is caveat emptor, sale of goods act etc do not apply and is probably why buyers keep walking away. Bren
  18. Hi Mike How did your saga finish - did you get the beast sorted out in the end? Bren
  19. Don't assume there's anything wrong with the car. Ebay is full of idiots who bid with no intention of completing the sale Too true and I may have a punt myself then - there were plenty of bidders last time and the went above £12K I think - which is too high because there are models at dealers for the same or less. Usually if the winner does not want it then the next highest gets the opportunity to buy. Bren
  20. Hi I had this problem on my 430 - it seemed to eat the damn front disks. The symptoms started at around 25K and I tried several different makes of disk - the Lexus OEM where the worst. Fair play I did a lot of "take no prisoners" motor way driving. I made sure the fitters cleaned everything because as was pointed out already you only need a small amount of run out (4 thou) and a disk will warp. I eventually found EBC disks and green stuff pads were great and have had no more probs. I had to replace all 4 callipers at 200K miles because the pistons would either not retact or where jammed - even this did not kill my front disks although they will need replacing when I change the pads. I used to have the disks skimmed as has been suggested but this was only ever a short term fix - the good news was even with warped disk and or stuck pistons the car always stopped very well. Good luck Bren
  21. Hi ambermarine I believe you should put the new tyres on the rear - I expect the tyre fitters advised that. It sounds counterintuitive. If the road is dry it does not matter but on a wet bend having rear tyres with less grip may cause the car to swap ends. So new tyres always on the rear. Bren
  22. The 460 is back on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=181140482667&fromMakeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:top:en and is at £5300 after 9 bids. I wonder when this cycle will break and somebody buys it? It would be really good to know why the last winner did not buy. Bren
  23. Also bear in mind it takes time to bring a legal action to court and a conclusion (and you may lose) - you need to be able to get the other party to court and most important of all they have to be able to pay you if you win . It's ok obtaining a judgement and or sending them to the nick but if you are still out of pocket several thousands of pounds because they have no money (you can get at) it does not do you a lot of good. Always do business with reputable traders or make sure you really know what to look for. The 460 on offer looks too good to be true for the price but what do I know? Bren
  24. Are you using a suspension specialist Mike - my local indi got somebody in to check mine out when my compressor became a little noisey. I did not see the testing but my suspenion is fine - the rear is a little slower to react than the fron but within spec (LPG tank I expect). The guy used a specialist piece of kit. You say it is down on it haunches - have you got it parked on a slope? Bren
