  1. I also share the opinion that the first gear is very weak, especially when accelerating...
  2. Hi folks, in germany there is no such legal regulation. The new merc c-class also does not have that sound, as welll as the Passat TDI PD. But well they also do not feature a very closely shiftable gear box like our lex. However, my dealer said that he could turn that off but as all the others posts are already telling me that sometime you are happy to have that noise. Besides, if someone else is driving that car who is not familar with six gears you are happy that it makes that noise cheers Mike
  3. Hi Guys, i was wondering if the TTE COmpressor can be fitted in an IS 300 to give that car a little bit more torque and power ? Would that theoretically possible ?
  4. HI Stitcher, anyway jsut want to say that the extra power of the VVT is not comparable like the extra Power of Honda V-tec engines, where you get pressed into your seat. But you will feel more power indeed Cheers Mike P.S. nice car you got there
  5. I will be there if the date is alright
  6. Hi Folks remember one of my posts some month ago between a BMW 320 vs Lexus is 200. I intend to test more cars and give you guys an update as sometimes during the weekend I do not have anything to do I feel like to testdrive comparable cars. Here is an update: I tested a Merc 200 Kompressor with 163 bhp Price around 30000 EUR with less options than our beloved Lex CLASSIC LINE Options included 6 airbags, metalic colour 6 speed gear box 4 times power window ESP, ABS, climate control alloy wheels My impression: The car has the better accelaration due to the compressor, however top speed is only a bit quicker than ours. INterior is dull a lot of plastic, sound system crappy, I mean a new car and only 4 out of 6 speakers were functioning. Engine is not as smooth as it is a 4 cylinder. When it comes to cornering definitly our lex has the better feedback as it you can push the car more at its limit, making the car more aggressive driving possible. At top speed our Lex has an adjustable powersteering giving the drive more driving feeling at high speeds. The price of 30000 EUR does not justify the car, as the car is less well equipped and the car does not have the sporty look we have. Besides the service costs are far more expensive. The luxury we got will boost the price of the Merc up to 40000k which is in this segment far too expensive. At that level I would go for a GS 300 [Edited on 2-5-2002 by weltmeister]
  7. Hi folks, my is 200 has alrady down 37000 km. I feel that the engine got a bit tired and the driving comfort has also gotten less. i hope that I do not have the replace the ball bearing? i mean sometimes I heard a noise if the car is just rolling, but that could also be the tyres. Anyone know if the 40k service is a big one where all worn out parts are replaced and the engine should be in a more healthy and fresh condition again ?
  8. wow you guys have driven all nice cars, my fastest driving experience were made Audi S8 S320 2000 AUDI TT slk compressor (260kmh downhill highway drive, nearly lost my life when I hardly overseen that corner :D:D:D) BMW 740 CLK 320 Porsche Boxter S Porsche 911 however the best compromise is still my 2002 dragoon green 2000 IS 200
  9. Camry engine in Germany and also in Indonesia uses 3 litre V6 and 2.4 litre V6 I thought Straight six is smoother, as at least BMW always uses straight six....and claim smoothness with their engines...
  10. Also very nice the bit between Cologne and Bonn....do not the number, anyway it is full three lane and only going straight on now speed limit and there is a sign saying TESTSTRECKE, *** knows what they mean at least I only interpret it....a 125 mph ride and the good thing about it is when you arrive in Bonn at the round about we directly find a gas station, also when we arrive in Cologne...:smilegrin::smilegrin::smilegrin:
  11. Be aware on the A3 Kamara at Darmstädter kreuz in direction to Cologne...only 60 kmh
  12. Most probably we get the camry engine or ???
  13. Hi Guys, here some hints where supercharged users can test their top speed on German Highways. A5 from Heidelberg till Karlsruhe, three lane with little bends. 15km straight full speed passages, hardly sharp corners.... Good for Accelaration and TOP SPEED Tests A3 from Cologne to Frankfurt (when the construction work is finished by JUNE 2002) three lane high speed motorway with lots of corners, ideally used for checking your suspension and testing the limit of your whole car......( some of the sharp corners can be done at 120mph, if you use all three lanes :) A81 ULM - Munich only two lane sharp corner motorway, really fun to drive but watch out the speed limit. A5 and A3 hardly have speedlimits are really challenging to drive. Have fun
  14. Does the V engine make any difference than then the straigt six engines. I mean as far as I know the straight engines is using up more space inthe hood, however, as performance is concerned you won't feel any difference.
  15. Hi all, I have asked my local dealer about air filters in a lexus is 200. He said, that they all won't do much as the car is equipped with a diagnostic system, which corrects any changes to the environment of hte engine. So the dealer said that any changes like air filters etc..won't add power to my car and leaves only some changes to the sound of the engine. The car will be louder but sportier. However as HP is concerned nothing will change.... Please correct me if I am mistaken... cheers
  16. corision on disc break, is normal isn't it. I guess that every car has corrioson on disc breaks after you have driven in the rain....
  17. Given that the rear window is tinted you actually do not need that mirror at least I do not feel to have a problem with that normal rear window mirrior
  18. HI Dboey, I am from Indonesia but live in Germany. If you open a club or split up an owners club for asia let me know. I might have some friends from Indonesia and Malaysia...who might be interested to join.. cheers
  19. Did you read the book "against all odds" ? It is autobiography of Toyota and the creationg of the brand lexus, how they define luxury and what they all did to create and build a Lexus
  20. In my post is200 vs is300 I also would say that hte is 200 is a better car even the 2000 model cause in my perspective the details are more clearly seen. I mean the little things making the is 200 2000 a special car. The love to the details which I am missing like the gear knob which is now in leather but however i miss the chrome ball and the methal pedals... Does the GS drive better than the is 300 ???? Anyone tried yet ? Maybe I should try and I will give a post... Mike
  21. In most cases you can drive another 100km for that...that is the generall rule, so you can say that the tank remains with 10 litre at max...the light of course flashes on depending on the angle of the road. However, in most cases as I said you should be able to drive 100km
  22. To RED6 Hi well there is one thing you missed out. People will look at you more and be more jealous on you if you drive a jag or a bmw...I mean I am software consultant and I deal with a lot of clients. My colleague drives a Merc SLK 200 Kompressor and in fact people look at him with different eyes. People think of me that guy with his japenese car...cause they don't know lexus too much, especially here in Germany :) Exactly, like you said, the Lotus Elise is a cracker, however, I tried to test drive that car too yesterday but it took only one minute to find out that I do not fit in that car and there goes the testdrive..I mean I could hav eopened the roof but it was raining so got to wait till the sun is shining again.... I am thinking like you I do not alter my is 200. RAther go for another car.....as second fun car
  23. but then maybe it is just a different feeling if you brake with a automatic driven car and a manual
  24. The automatic gearbox won't let you in the low rev so you have always the right one....but well still I don't think you are quicker than the 330 ci and the racetech of the Jag, you might arrive earlier at your destination, cause the JAg breaks down and for the 330 you got to wait longer as you ahve difficulties to pay the 20% difference in price :) it is a question of price. Does the price still justify the few seconds you gain. It is not the same class I got to adimit. However, if you go for understatement and value for money and fun, still go for the lexus. I agree with you I would have expected more from Lexus too, I guess they were just thinking: Well take the GS engine and well the IS 200 spec and body and well let s call it is 300. Since the gs is not coming with manual gearbox, you offer the is 3o0 also only with automatic...:))) As for the parts well it is maybe cost cutting...strategy which is wrong, since the goodies are also one point why we bought the lex...
  25. Hi george . That is exactly the point however I don't know how to reach that 8.2 seconds, I guess you got to shift yourself in the manual modus of the automatic gear box. YOu got the up gear shift pannels in the back of the steering wheel and hthe down shift pannels in the front. It is very difficult to get use to. I rather would have wished to have pannels like the Ferrari 360 modena :))))) in the back of the steering wheel right shift for up and left for down shifting... :) At least I would have expected the two buttons for shifting up and down at one side. Let's say right button for up gearing and left for down gearing...however it works well, and the kick down is very sensitive and responsive. However, this complicated shifting system descourage you to shift manually and you rather go for the automatic modus, but then the car is slower. You ar e right about the manual gearbox, then the is 200 will loose more. But still I would not rather go for the 2002 model, I don't like the wodden interrior, besides there is no sport version anymore, it is more a mix of the standard and the sport, which I found a pitty I like the ball on my gear shift....anyway, that is replaced now by a leather knob, which makes the car look like Daddy's spec :)))) The reason why they would offer a is 300 manual is that it is in direct competition with the is 200 compressor. They told me that at the Essen Motor show last year. So we got to be waiting and see. But I still think that the is 200 compressor is the more aggressive car....compare it with the Merc C 280 and the C 230 compressor...I think at top speed they won't do much , but the way they reach the top speed makes the difference. Maybe the is 300 last longer as you don't force and overpower the engine like you do in the is 200. The price, well the compressor is around 7500 EURO it is worth thinking. but well I have my own impression, i decided to leave my lovely is 200 like it is and rather invest in a sports car, maybe a HOnda s2000 at least for the first installmen 7500 EURO will do :))))) but still thinking...at least the idea of having two cars is better than having just one...for sure I will keep the is 200 2000 :)
