  1. I think it's likely to be coolant levels causing your heating issue. Check the amount of water in the rad (when cold, as Mark said!) Mine used to gurgle when you first started it up, half a litre of water in the coolant and the problem went away never to return...
  2. Chunks of the internet are blocked for me as well - by which I mean email sites like Hotmail, and MSN Messenger. Since I use my own laptop, I decided to spend a tenner a month on a mobile broadband dongle, to sidestep such a silly ban.
  3. I haven't used it myself, but I believe it's the latter. Exactly right mate, NTBackup creates a *.BKF file that you have to catalog on another system when it comes to restoring an individual file. If you just wanted a sync of the filesystem you could look at setting up a Windows scheduled task using something like Robocopy which is a free download from MS and use that to sync an external drive to the local drive - it's easy to do :) I will have to check tomorrow, but I think Windows Vista allows you to pick out files in a manner more akin to Time Machine, ie choose from different timed backups. Since I never used backup on XP (through lack of need, before anyone starts on about how I don't trust Vista!!) I don't know if it's the same system or not... Time Machine is pretty cool though, I bought a Seagate Freeagent Desk external drive to use with it - looks very smart next to my iMac! :D
  4. Back when I didn't pay for my own fuel (or, indeed, own the car!) I used to go out 20 minutes before I needed the car with the spare key and fired up the motor. It was a Mondeo which has a heated windscreen - set everything to 'hot' and the car was nice and toasty, all the windows clear, and ready for action... It's worth noting that this was also in a small village, where I didn't really have to worry about someone nicking it, either!
  5. Cool, is it intelligent to know when you delete something off your PC for example, not to put it back when synching the phone? (That's what my N95 does and it drives me mad! :shutit: ) Find it hard to believe that this isn't changeable. Every other sync system I've seen has an option to 'phone is right', 'computer is right' and 'ask me each time'. You carefully looked through the options?
  6. I don't think they'll ever do it - it's just a gentle climbdown to save face. They have got the new banding in place - as time goes on, older cars will be scrapped anyway and fall out of the system. I'm glad I got the V8 when I did, can't see myself owning one in a few years time. I think cars like that are a dying breed, sad to say.
  7. I think it's unlikely he's going to be putting in the full 70 litres. Assuming he fills it when it gets down to the light, that is about 60 litres to brim it, maybe less if (like me) you like to fill when you are about half-way through the last quarter of a tank. 60 litres in 400 miles would be 30mpg, which isn't so much worse than the Clio, and possibly better than that at 33mpg if the fillup is only 55 litres or so.
  8. Recently I got Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3s all round on mine. Excellent tyres... No need to go for 97 load rating, they will have stiffer sidewalls which will make the ride worse. It's a big car, but it's not necessary to go for higher-load tyres.
  9. Woke up to about 2 inches in Frankfurt on Wednesday morning, but it turned to rain later on in the day and started to disappear again. Unfortunately :( On the other hand, rain is better than snow when you have a plane to catch!!
  10. Surely in order to get an iPhone you would have to wait another 3 months anyway though? Unless Vodafone are offering you an early release from contract (which seems unlikely...) If you really wanted an iPhone, you'd have to wait another 2 months, then serve notice to VF and wait another month, then order up an iPhone on a new contract on O2. And faff around with number porting, but that's not that much of a hassle really.
  11. It's a pretty heavy car, and being rear wheel drive there are stresses going through the back that aren't there on many other cars. So could well be right... :)
  12. Nice ,I'll be using mine tomorrow at 3am around the m25,when i take my daughters to the airport would like to see yours at one of the meets, coz i'm the only 430 at these meets, got to be more 430 owners. maybe at ace cafe on 20 Dec,anyway enjoy cheers Yeah I have been to a meet - it was good to put names to faces and to meet people and their cars! Unfortunately I always seem to be busy at weekends :( Even DJ Wozza has given up PM'ing me when the meets are!
  13. I'm a big fan of the 430 too - that's why I bought one! Great car... I actually did use the power today as well, road from Dorking to Horsham is a very pleasant drive, and turns into a series of 2 miles stretches of dual-carriageway with some roundabouts breaking it up. Traction control had a workout coming off a couple of the roundabouts, wriggle from the back, it backs off the power a touch, then woomf!! up the road :D :D :D
  14. Funny ad... :) That would actually make quite a fun car for summer evenings, a bit 'cheap and cheerful' but for a summer's evening in the countryside it would be very pleasant!! I'm sure you could get it up and running for not very much money, too. I'm sure the V5 specifically states that it does not necessarily show the legal owner of the vehicle. For example, if you buy a car on finance, it will show your name on the V5 but the legal owner is the finance company, which is how/why they can legally just repossess it from you if you don't pay the bills!
  15. Isn't 0-60 in 5.1s a bit quick for a 430? Official figures are 5.9 for the later (and last) 430 models, and 6.1 for the earlier MK II models. They hybrids are actually slightly faster, official figures are 5.7s 0-60. All models are limited to 155 as you say, though. Even the latest 4.6 models are only 5.6s 0-60. Still, can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times I've wished it had more power... :)
  16. Get a pin and have a good poke about in the jet. Presumably it's not just frozen with the low temps this time of year?
  17. Yeah but 'Change System Time' is an assignable user right. Won't conclusively prove either way... ;)
  18. Ah OK, yes that makes sense. Cheers...
  19. 1) Not got a copy of Outlook connected to an Exchange server, so can't remember off the top of my head! The Global Address List is the list of addresses held within an Exchange server that all users can access, so typically it will include everyone who works for the company, plus a handful of commonly used external addresses. 2) Right-click My Computer, choose Manage. This will bring up a console called Computer Management. In there look for Local Users & Groups, choose Users and find the user in question. Note what groups the user is a member of. Then go into Groups, choose Administrators, and see if there are any matches or if the user appears directly. If the user is either named specifically, or is a member of a group that belongs to Adminstrators, then the user has Admin rights. If not, he doesn't. How to give them adminstrator access should be fairly obvious from that point! NB: Groups can be nested, ie groups within groups within groups etc. - you might have to do a bit of clicking to be sure! 3) You'll need to reset their password. Find the account, right-click it, and reset the password using the appropriate option from the menu that comes up. Then advise the user of the new password. I assume from the way the question is worded that the user is trying to use Remote Desktop to log on to his own machine back in the office. If it is that the user can't log onto their own machine at home, then there's not much you can do from where you are! EDIT: the above assumes a local user on a local copy of Windows. The answers are largely the same if you are using an Active Directory domain though, but you will have to use AD Users & Computers to find the accounts, since it probably won't be an account hosted locally that you will be looking for.
  20. Wow, Tyger and I agree on something! :D Overclocking is asking for trouble, IMO. Sure, lots of people do it successfully, but I never feel comfortable with doing it and you never quite know if any little niggles you get are down to the overclocked CPU struggling. Editing video is seriously CPU intensive so will be stressing the chip hard enough as it is. 64bit is the way to use large amounts of memory, which is relatively cheap these days and very easy to add more later if you need to. If you go with XP or Vista 32bit and 4GB then there is no way to add more later, but if you start with a 64bit copy of Vista (preferable to 64bit XP) then you can add as much RAM as you like down the line knowing that it will make proper use of it. There is only a very small price difference between 32 and 64bit Vista editions. Plus, benchmarks on ZDnet magazine show the 64bit OS is faster anyway when doing the same tasks.
  21. Just to clarify a point which I don't feel is crystal clear above - if you go with RAID 0, then you do gain some performance but you are dependent on BOTH disks (or more, there is no limit on the number of hard drives) staying alive. If either one fails, you lose *everything* as the other will only contain half the data. With two drives, the risk of losing everything is doubled, and tripled if you use three, etc etc. So get busy with the backups... What OS are you planning on running? You may want to investigate the possibility of going 64bit so you can take advantage of having more than 4GB of RAM (which won't show up in 32bit Windows as 4GB anyway) which if you are working with very large video files, might be a significant performance boost as well. As Anees said, Macs were born to do this stuff, though I can't comment on iMovie having never used it on mine. There is a cost implication though, you won't get a Mac Pro with those specs for that price.
  22. What, in physical terms, is the difference? I know what the user-relevant specs are (eg various data rates etc) but not *why* CAT6 is capable of a faster data rate. Is the copper thicker? Is there more shielding? Tighter twists on the pairs? etc etc... anyone know?
  23. They aren't. But it's only 'fair', of course... :tsktsk:
