  1. Sparky: I wasn't having a go mate, I was just trying to reiterate the irrelevance of Bluetooth for file transfers. For hands free it works as you'd expect.
  2. You shouldn't be converting out FROM mp4, you need software to edit the footage IN this native format if you can, to preserve quality. Mac users edit mp4 in high-def using iMovie HD which is free with any Mac. http://www.apple.com/ilife/imovie/ Surely there is some (not to expensive) way of doing this on Windoze?
  3. *sigh* Email. Email. Email. Email. Email. iTunes. iTunes. iTunes. iTunes. iTunes. Air Sharing and similar apps. Air Sharing and similar apps. Air Sharing and similar apps. Air Sharing and similar apps. Air Sharing and similar apps. That's how you get things in and out of iPhones. Bigger, better, faster.
  4. Cut n Pasted from a previous thread... Just a few of my faves. More to follow. Pocket Guitar (Work it out...) http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=1hIpTo410oU Google Earth (Not just the normal Google Earth...) http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=v6BPuKaLel4 Motion X (Poker Dice) http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=0ChIhSRfveE Virtual Pool (Pool, but virtual...!) http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=LnNy0ra9jLw Air Sharing (Use the iPhone into a wireless hard drive) http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=1Pf_7-XV0D0 Bloomberg http://video.google.com/videosearch?client...4&ct=title# Classics http://www.classicsapp.com/ Fring (IM Clients and VOIP) http://www.fring.com/download/iphone/ Ocarina (Pure class) http://ocarina.smule.com/ Mark W - You should try Midomi instead of Shazam. You can even talk, hum or SING into it and it will tell you the song, play it for you and you can download it! Amazing!
  5. hehe of course the G1 is free. No one would PAY for it! ;)
  6. :offtopic: haha you have to try a little harder to offend me sunshine. One little thing - you mention this non-existent PM AGAIN. This is complete fabrication and will not have children's playground BS spoken about me - therefore you give me no option but to report your post to the mods.
  7. Renault 5 - always leaned about 5 degrees to the right! MG Metro - fantastic little motor. Gotta love the red seatbelts! Isuzu Piazza Turbo - probably my fave car I have ever driven. PERFECT driving position, superb handling, all the gadgets, very rare. VERY fast A to B and you always feel 100% in control. A total gem. Nissan Skyline GTR - yes, I know, I know. Lexus LS430 - Probably the biggest change you can make from a Skyline!? What a car. Effortless to drive. However long the journey I get out and feel like I haven't even driven. Astonishing. Unfortunately I was lent an LS460 for a weekend whilst mine was being serviced - which means that my next car HAS to be one of those. Curse that Lexus marketing!!
  8. EXACTLY the same thing happened to me 2 weeks ago and I was wondering what to do. At the time I asked Autoglass to assure me that this was the EXACT same screen they were replacing and they told me it was... I shall be calling them first thing Monday! Thanks for this great post SteveW37! PS FYI a new sensor is £175 from Lexus! :o
  9. Well there is only one man in the entire world that knows this for a fact - and it ain't me! BUT I can give you my best guestimations based on Apple product releases patterns of the past and industry whispers... I would say not until October 09 - ready for the Christmas 09 buying season. But you will hear about it a few months before through carefully planned leaks in order to create the usual Apple marketing frenzy, whereby Apple uses the press and public to do all their marketing for them. :) I think they will drop the prices of the existing model to FREE and release a new model at the previous price point. The new model will have all the cool stuff in it and will outsell the old one by many times. I think this is what would happen if there wasn't a global economic crisis right now. Under these new circumstances they MAY bring forward the price drop to around Easter time, but only if sales are tapering off. No sign yet. I am less convinced now about the release of an iPhone nano for the time being as the iPhone itself is selling so well it's not like they need another version for some time yet. Sales/cost wise it is a good thing to minimise your product lines. Lower manufacturing costs, lower advertising costs, better public perception. There is word of a 4GB version of the current phone being available v cheaply in the nearish term. While it is nice to have larger memory sizes, it really isn't a big deal. You generally would plug your iPhone into your computer (preferably a Mac :) ) once a day to charge anyway, so at that time you can drag drop or autosync any files / apps to /from your iPhone that you require. A few GB of music and a film or two on your iPhone is plenty for one charge. I have an 8GB one but could easily make do with 4GB. BUT if iPhone sales continue to grow then the new model, which is without doubt in development, will stay locked away until it is needed to stimulate sales. Bottom line. Holding off for a new model in this case is a BAD idea. Only other question is - what the hell am I doing up so early on a Saturday morning!? :eerrrmm:
  10. Parthiban: You're a bright chap, so I look forward to hearing your progress when you get your iPhone. :) 10000+ apps, 300 million downloads and climbing...
  11. lol *disbelief* Come on. If Fargo got an iPhone then surely there is NO one Apple can't reach out to! I have had my iPhone for yonks. It's a mobile computer. The novelty doesn't wear off until you get bored of the Internet and email and new applications. It's a very useful tool. Yes Enigmo is a GREAT Game. Had it on my Mac a few years ago. I Think it has been converted to Windows now too. Worth a Google. Enigmo 2 is even better!
  12. Just do it. Then you will understand. :)
  13. Hi! Well when I eventually had a closer look it seems I DIDN"T blow it after all - just that the sealant had died, so I used some gunk a friend recommended and kinda sealed it back down. Have to wait 24 hours before I test it out - but I think it should be OK. I will reduce the bass a few notches though! Thanks for your help and I will let you know how it goes...
  14. aha! Well I will try and find out if it's the same one! Cheers
  15. I managed to blow my sub yesterday (I think) after I was perhaps a little too eager with some new toonz! It crackles on every bass note and I fear I may have ripped it. The tutorial is for an LS400. Is an LS430 pretty much the same? What with the weatcher I have been holding back taking anything apart.
  16. There is no point whatsoever going for a Quad or even Dual core machine if you are not running an OS that can utilise it properly. Some versions of Windows do it better than others, but as far as I know the best for the job is the 64 bit version of Vista. This would remove some of the memory limitations too. You should cost this in or you will be spending a lot of money on a box that is only using a fraction of it's potential. As far as the Nehalem (i7) platform is concerned - there is about a 30% gain to be made in certain operations with this new processor at the same clock speed above the current Harpertown platform. But of course the premium price of a new processor and the architecture of new motherboards will break the budget. Not worth looking at for another year. Overclocking is asking for trouble.
  17. I didn't see anything related to price, apologies. However lets not forget the most important thing when purchasing ANYthing - value for money. This most important thing seems to evaporate from the brain when buying computers in particular for some reason. Parthiban: One product Apple DO overcharge without question is their RAM. Crucial sell EXACTLY the same RAM for 1/3 of the Apple price. I guess they just don't like selling RAM. Yeah 2GB is stingy for such a beast, but I guess it's to keep the cost below a certain price point. ANyone buying such a machine will upgrade RAM themselves cheaply from another vendor. Apple don't offer Blu Ray native yet for a very valid business reason that is for another thread. A 3rd party drive will fit into your second optical bay. The useful "speed" you can generate from the processor is down to what OS/apps it is running. For those amongst us running XP with >3.2GB RAM on multicore machines - your box is not doing what it says on the tin.
  18. Ooooh what a nice thread I just found!! :) I think the DUAL Quad Core Mac Pro is just the ticket http://www.apple.com/macpro/ iMovie is a very capable editing suite however if you have a Mac Pro then why not do it like a Pro....? http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/ If you go the PC route bear in mind that most of those cores and RAM will be just sitting there rotting. XP can't use more than 3.2GB RAM, and all Windows versions are USELESS at utilising all those yummy processor cores. Even a 2nd hand Mac Pro is a better machine for this job than a Windows box. The Mac Pro can have up to 32GB of RAM all useable by the pure 64 bit Mac OS X, and all your 8 cores will be used. You can pack each of the 4 drive sleds full of TB drives and RAID it all up to your hearts content. I know cos I have one. *suprise suprise* ;) PS As for drives how about a pair of Dual X25-M SSDs... :) http://barefeats.com/hard103.html
  19. Dying to see this! Totally spoilt by adverts though - this is the kinda show that has to be watched in one shot so usually I try and wait for DVD. BUT in the meantime....anyone know where I can find a streaming link? All my regular ones have had the content removed!!
  20. What an amazing race. My fingers are chewed to the bone! Well done Lewis. Did you see his girlfriend? No wonder he was in a hurry to get back.... :)
  21. Telecoms Consultant. Apple shares investor. The shares paid for the car, the contracts pay for the petrol. :winky:
  22. Kazi: when I get a moment I certainly will, as your first post shows you have merely scratched the surface of your iPhone. (Not actually scratched it of course as the superb scratch resistant glass would make that very difficult! ;) ) Gord: Yes that was a nicely on-topic post. If you want me to respond with decent informative information on topic - then keep your drivel to yourself and take some time to listen. That will be the education.
