  1. hehe keep talking iPhone doubters! your eyes will be opened tonight! :)
  2. You are utterly missing the point. 3G is the LAST reason to be buying the iPhone 2. 3G has been and always will be crap. I know - I build the networks. Those choosing not to buy iPhone 1 due to lack of 3G have shot themselves in the foot, but that's another story. The reason to get the iPhone 2 is because - as you will discover on Monday - it is just about to become the world's first successful truly mobile computing platform. You will be able to download thousands upon thousands of apps and games direct to your phone via iTunes. Along with 3G it will have lots of other good stuff that will get you salivating. The iPhone is currently only available in 6 countries (legally) - it about to become available in over 70. N95? N96? Windows mobile? lol Just wait and see Apple decimate the mobile market as it already started to do with iPhone 1. iPhone was just a ripple, iPhone 2 will be a tsunami. PS Apple's plan all along is to get people buying iPhones, iPhones, iPhones - but they are not selling you a phone they are selling you a Mac. Genius. All will be clear Monday evening... :)
  3. Why put yourself through this? One example of thousands upon thousands every month... http://www.davidalison.com/2008/04/mac-aft...eres-why-i.html
  4. What the HELL!? Just go into an O2 shop or Carphonewarehouse and ask for an iPhone demo from someone who knows what they are talking about. You will soon see these 2 phones to be yesteryears trash. The HTC Touch is a joke - seriously. Do yourself a favour and just TRY an iPhone. Don't listen to the general noise coming from most people who have never used one. TRY one... There is a REASON why the iPhone OS now has a greater market share than Windows mobile just 6 months after release.
  5. Looks great John! Is this your first Mac? Impressions? PS I know a fair amount about Macs, but I am unaware of the "Hover Mode" you Mac is in... :) How do you do that!? PPS Chris: those speakers are MONSTERS!
  6. Chris - I suggest you invest in that iMac sooner rather than later. After a few days with it you will never buy Windows hardware again. If you buy this Medion THEN an iMac you will be kicking yourself to kingdom come... All PC hardware is is a box that runs software. Those Medion boxes can only run Windows (yeah yeah Linux pfff) Macs run Mac OS X, Windows, Linux or whatever else you want. Why limit your software choice and buy a "PC"? Macs are a different world mate. http://www.apple.com/imac/software/ Check out the Front Row link of this page for the kind of Media Thing you are after... You can bolt on an Elgato TV Tuner also for not much dosh. Even a second hand Intel Mac would do a better job that this Medion thing. Anyway, you will know all this stuff soon after you get your iMac... :)
  7. WOW! Best car I have ever driven, and I have driven a few. Smooth, powerful, elegant, stylish. This car just devours the road effortlessly. This WILL be my next car.
  8. ....or you could do the sensible thing and upgrade to a virus-free and spyware-free OS. http://www.apple.com/getamac
  9. i_love_my_IS200: How do you have one already!?? OK - this is a PHONE not a camera! If you wanted a camera you bought a PHONE by mistake! ;-P The menus are not customisable as they want a standard interface. Apple know about interfaces and doesn't want you screwing it up! ;) Why do you want to take the SIM out? ;) (you can) Battery? You can get it swapped out for 50 squid like any iPod. No biggie. (you won't need to anyway) No games... YET.... ;) Thanks but I have been following the iPhone since it was a twinkle in Steve Jobs Apple-shaped eye! I'd love to borrow it for a year or so though.. ;) Maneesh: the v2 will not be til mid/end of next year and it will be an HSDPA/WiFi version. This phone is software upgradeable. There is NO point in waiting at all, unless you want HSDPA, which is a bit pointless as you have WiFi anyway....
  10. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7000370.stm November 9th. Awesome machine - it is revolutionising the mobile industry in many ways, including handset pricing structures, revenue sharing contracts, relationships between manufacturers and operators, and not least of which unlimited data contracts and a FULL browsing experience. A common moan is the lack of 3G. Now 3G is RUBBISH. I know, I build the networks. HSDPA which is a high speed version of 3G (UMTS) is being rolled out slowly across the UK. Apple has already said that an HSDPA model will be available some time next year. By this time HSDPA will be more prevalent and an HSDPA phone will be worth having. Currently WiFi is by far the best and fastest way to get data to your mobile device. O2 will be providing 7500 FREE WiFi hotspots for iPhone users, in addition to Starbucks hotspots being rolled out. iPhone has WiFi. At £269 + unlimited data plans, this cutting edge device is a bargain and will sell millions. www.apple.com/uk/iphone
  11. http://www.engadget.com/2007/09/06/does-ap...have-bluetooth/ :)
  12. Parthiban: some keen eyed peeps spotted on the German Apple website a pic of the iPod Touch with a Bluetooth icon in the menu bar..! It MAY be that it is built in and will be activated with a future software update. *fingers crossed* I think this says it all...
  13. Well not 100%, they sold 200,000 before the release then there lots of other figures flying around apple said they sold 280,000 in july but the companys that sold them only said 200,000. but even if they sell 200,000 a month thats only just gonna make the 1,000,000 mark over the quater, maybe thats why they dropped the price, as sales are bound to slow. Mate - sales projections are 11 million in 2009. Sales are NOT even dreaming of slowing!
  14. After this amazing price cut I am guessing £269 in the UK. Ellz: Some people believe in Father Christmas. The iPhone sales in the US have been phenomenal and they are easily on target to reach their 1million target. The price reduction is simply to assure total devastation of the mobile market for the US holiday - which traditionally sees the highest volume of Apple sales. Any ANALysts who say different should look for a new job.
  15. Maneesh - hehe no but I think I always have that career option open to me! Chris - for those amazing speakers you should be ripping all your music into iTunes using the Apple Lossless algorithm - much better than aac but larger file sizes. This will get you the best sound quality from a digital device. Rikos - I suggest you use an iPhone and then it will all become clear. MikeB - It seems all you need is what you already have! A data card. What does that have to do with the iPhone? The iPhone is a personal gadget not a business data pipe! *scratches head* The screen can absolutely be operated with one hand, but typing is faster with two of course. I can't wait for the damn thing to get here and you lot can try it!! I will be VERY interested to see all your comments then!!!! :)
  16. hahahhaah Chris that is INSANE!!!!! I REALLY hope the iPods are using Apple Lossless encoding!!!!! ;) Ellz: http://www.apple.com/iphone Please watch all the vids and read all the info! It's all there. After you have done this please feel free to ask me anything - else I am just repeating info that is easily available.
  17. heheh dudes! I really think you need to go to apple.com and have a look at the guide videos and look at what this phone is all about. The iPhone will NEVER be free in the UK - it doesn't have to be as people want it so bad they WILL pay. It's an iPod that makes phonecalls. It's a Mac that makes phonecalls. N95? pah be serious. You have to understand the thing the iPhone has that no other company can compete with is Mac OS X - the OS. This and the interface is what sets this phone apart. You REALLY have to use one to understand the huge allure this gadget has. Storage too low?? come on. Think about how people USE these iPods and sync/charge with their Macs/PCs it is a cinch to swap out your songs and files. By the way....APPLE HAS NEVER SAID THIS IS A BUSINESS DEVICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you want a cam better than 2 or 3 Megapixels what the hell are you doing buying a phone????? They are CRAP compared to a dedicated cam. This product is revolutionising the industry - this will be clear in time. Sorry for random post as am pressed for time. Will fill in gaps and answer other q's later.
  18. Best guestimates say November - on the O2 network initially. Yes I NEED an iPhone too! haha It is clear the difference in opinion of people who have read about the iPhone and those who have used one. It is truly an amazing device.
  19. Mike - iPhone has wifi which blows any 3G or HSDPA out of the water. HSDPA rollout in the UK is next to useless at the moment anyway. There are rumblings that the EU iPhone MAY well be 3G/HSDPA anyway! This is not any old touchscreen device mate. Trust me! You really have to use one to see how revolutionary this thing is. The manufacturers ARE shaking in their boots and internally are going insane with worry. This is borne out by many industry analysts who have noted very unusual behaviour with product lines etc since the iPhone announcement in January. The new price drop from $599 to $399 as well is astonishing. The iPhone IS changing the industry and is doing big data users like yourself a huge favour - at last you will have devices that it is worth downloading data TO, hence bringing mobile data use to the masses. This can only be a good thing. The iPhone is already outselling ALL "Smartphones" in the US (even though it has never been marketed as one) and is THE gadget to have.
  20. http://www.apple.com Amazing. Huge price cuts for the iPhone too... Only 8GB model available now at $399 down from $599 Handset manufacturers must be shaking in their flooding boots. Game set and match. http://events.apple.com.edgesuite.net/s835...ernal=g4h5jl83a :)
  21. ANY Mac will do those things without breaking into a sweat. http://www.apple.com/uk/hardware Have a look around. For most things you will want to know.... http://www.apple.com/getamac Good luck. PS For apple.com to work properly you will need Quicktime installed. If you have iTunes then you have Quicktime.
  22. Yes, well a huge number of Mac users are ex-PC users who have pulled all their hair out ALREADY due to prolonged exposure to Windows...!
  23. Yes absolutely you can. That is what it does best!
  24. A screwdriver is all you need. Underneath the screen there is one small screw you undo, pop in the RAM and screw it up again. Bingo. RAM is cheap these days. These babies can take up to 4GB. They come with 1x1GB and have 2 slots so if I were you I would buy 2GB and so you have 3GB in total. If you buy 2x2GB you have to throw the original 1GB away (or sell it). OS X allows you to work with many apps simultaneously and is meant to be run 24/7. This allows you to leave all the apps that you need open all the time. To do this efficiently and to reduce hardrive access the more RAM you have the better. 3GB will do you proud. I will be ordering a 24" iMac in October when Leopard is out. I don't really NEED a new one but I WANT a new one so much that it effectively has become a NEED!! I am looking fwd to swfcdan's first post from his iMac. I could pretty much write it for him as I have seen this awakening many times! Windows users everywhere - follow swfcdan's lead and save yourselves from the pain! EDIT: In fact here below is a cut/paste from another forum from a recent Switcher. This is happening the world over... ------------------------ A switcher's review of the new iMac I started out "computing" back in the 80's with a PC clone that didn't even have a hard drive. It had two floppy drives. I just switched to Apple from a PC that had a quad core extreme 2.67, 4GB of DC RAM, a GEForce 8800 ultra, a Lian Li aluminum case, two optical drives, two 10,000 rpm hard drives, a liquid c CPU cooler, and a 20" LCD monitor. My main uses of my PC were online banking and gaming - mostly Flight simulators of all genres and Links 2003, a golf simulator. I built all of my own systems for about the last 6 years now. I have fried many PC components, including motherboards, power supplies, RAM, video cards, etc. I always bought the best hardware. Just to give you some background on where I'm coming from. When MS released Windoze Vista, I had finally had enough . I have had my new iMac for about 1 week. Hardware The first thing I noticed when my iMac arrived was how well packaged it was. The materials used were as good or better than any I've seen. Even the packing boxes are well designed and attractive. The attention to detail is amazing. For example, I noticed how flexible the power cord was. Not stiff like all the others I've owned. Not a big deal, but an indicator. If that level of detail has been put into the rest of the machine, I've made an excellent investment. The machine itself is nothing short of stunning. By far the best looking piece of equipment I've ever owned. Setup was amazingly easy. Just pull it out of the box, set it on the desk, attach the power cord, the keyboard, plug the mouse into the keyboard, connect your peripherals and you are ready to go. I have an old HP Laserjet 6P printer, and 3 CH controllers. No problem - all recognised by OSX and all working. I suggest adding a powered USB hub if you have more peripherals. This machine is very quiet. A new experience for me, and a sign of quality. The keyboard is just awesome. Again, proof that funcionality does not mean ugly. It looks good and performs even better. The mouse is definitely difficult to get used to and is the only negative I've found so far, but it may just take more time to get used to. The hardware is perfect in my opinion. Software It is different. Different, but better. Everything works absolutely flawlessly. The result of the hardware being made by the same people who write the OS. The programs that are part of the OS are awesome. Safari is terrific. The OS is so flexible that you can set up your Mac any way you like. Just terrific. It is what Windows only wishes it could be. The screen is big, bright and gorgeous. Sleep mode actually works! In short, if you are thinking about switching - do it! I was really apprehensive but all my fears and concerns have been melted away. get a Mac, you won't regret it. ---------------------------
  25. Don't buy your RAM from Apple, get it at www.crucial.com and save a lot. It is EASY to install yourself - just one screw, and you can put the money you save towards the Leopard OS upgrade :)
