  1. Hi Maneesh Can you please explain the "paperclip" method, I havent found any codes or where they are displayed yet
  2. The NOS goes into the manifold after the throttle body, not into the air intake, so surely it will miss the flow sensors , or will it ? Does the Mk1 have Variable valve timing ? i thought that was on later model GS300, although I must admit having just stripped the head there was no sign of variable valve timing gear unless thats down the bottom end on the crank, where I havent been Please correct me if I am wrong Thinking of the fuel control, won't the O2 sensors and knock sensors pick up a weak mixture and add buckets of fuel to compensate ? or don't they work fast enough Exciting? I do hope so Catastrophic ? I do hope not
  3. I have been thinking about thw NOS and the electronics on the Lexus On the Ford it was dead easy, another injector to dump fuel in each bank (V6) and I never had a problem The Ford V6 though was a bit agricultural being honest and I didn't cause a problem, shoved the probe in the exhaust on a rolling road and tweaked fuel load until near enough normal as the injector opened a split second before the NO2 opened As the NOS only kicks in on full throttle pedal it really only needs one fuel setting I do have a sneaking feeling that it will confuse the hell out of the Lexus ECU though, or will it be easier in that the O2 sensors etc will automatically adjust everything ? wouldn't that just be so easy ? Do you know anywhere that is capable of checking the ECU against NOS against mixture The nice thing about the NOS is all I have to do is not switch the system on and it will drive exactly as standard so I can take it anywhere to get set up correctly Last thing I want to do is melt the pistons and valves after just doing the head gasket, which was remarkably easy once you work out where all the vacuum hoses go back
  4. Hi Roj Unfortunately with me it has turned out that it was my head gasket and the blocked header was just sort of part of it Although because of this when the radiator cap wasnt releasing the pressure it blew the waterpump so i had a new waterpump and they did the cam belt same time, cost £230 for the whole job at local Independent garage (Lexus quote for the job £840) Now I am rebuilding the top of the engine with new head gasket etc, quite an easy mechanical job and almost done now, biggest problem is getting the damn vacuum hoses right
  5. I drive my pick up in the woods like a rally super star I drive my Lexus like a dad (until I get the NOS fitted anyway) I drive my motorbike like I hate my knees I drive the wifes car like I drive the wife (not often enough) And my sons cosworth like ,,, well make up your own mind http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JVfHZHPb8iE
  6. WOW dual controls and 500bhp Lexus are definately after the driving school market
  7. Hi Aido and Bazza Thanks for the reply When I got the kit for the Ford I had a few problems setting it up right to get the best from it, but a bit of tinkering and adjustment and it really did work in true afterburner style I am going to start with the smallest of the nozzles and work upwards until i start getting scared As the GS has enough power for normal roads normally the NOS kit works well just for the short bursts when you really want it all for overtaking etc The only problem I found with NOS is that to set it right with the microswitch it only kicks in on full throttle and full normal power and full NOS all happen at once, which takes some getting used to I am now wondering how I will feel if I fit the kit and end up teaching at a Thai girls school, I didn't realise the afterburner effect could hyperdrive me that far
  8. I admit that in my youth I was a greaser / rocker / biker, and yes I got into trouble and all sorts, so I am not a high and mighty type and coming over all righteous But Then there was somethings that were unwritten rules and lines that no one including the greasers, skinheads and mods ever crossed without a severe beating from their mates You never messed with kids You never messed with OAP You never bust up anything just for a laugh and to see how it sounded when it snapped or crashed You actually did respect the Police, although we never admitted it at the time we weren't innocent by any stretch of the imagination, but when I hear about somethings like that car jacking, OAP being mugged and kids being bullied and mobiles being nicked in the street, I know the reason they do it immediately The do gooders get them let off or sent on a rehabilitation holiday, because society is to blame, and they have human rights I have had enough of that cr*p, innocent victims have human rights, when your doing things like hijacking cars or mugging as far as I am concerned the only human rights those should have is to be punished so the punishment fits the crime not a reward The real answer Reopen the Borstals (for the young ones here who haven't heard of a Borstal, youth prisons run on military grounds by bigger bast**d guards than you can imagine), if your under 35 ish ask your dad about them Believe me that was a deterrent, whatever party suggests that next election gets my vote, and if the elected don't have the balls to do it, then it is only a matter of time before the public get so fed up with it they will take it to their own devices to punish them hard, and not involve the police or the court system
  9. Personally after looking again I do like the back end as it is different But does the front end look a bit Nissan 350Z ? I do like the idea of 500 horses and mid engine and if they do a hybrid version no doubt it will take the MPG consumption to a very economical level of double figures
  10. just in case anyone is interested in the Lexus sports car have a peep now that is what you call an original rear end http://www.japanesecarfans.com/spyphotos/6...1114.001.1M.jpg http://www.japanesecarfans.com/spyphotos/6....001.mini2L.jpg http://www.japanesecarfans.com/spyphotos/6....001.mini4L.jpg I wonder when it will hit UK 500+ BHP mid mounted porshe beater ?
  11. http://www.worldcarfans.com/spyphotos.cfm/...a-and-small-suv But did anyone notice this little beauty hidden in the Jap section ?
  12. Logic does make me think 50 ish as well so does economy of refilling the bottle but pure lunacy makes me think of a lot more I have an arm system switch (ex RAF missile system safety) that I fitted to the Ford as an in cockpit pose so I can switch the NOS on and off when needed so it wouldn't be on all the time In another topic I did ask if the Nitrus kit would mess up the Lexus sensors, I don't want to go weak melty piston time when it kicks in, any clues ?
  13. My head gasket change is almost there, more like knitting air vacuum pipes than engineering but no real problems apart from its cold and wet in the car park as I havent got a garage The head gasket had blown between cyl 5 and 6 and into the water channel but apart from that all seems good and straight, so relatively lucky Before I fit the inlet manifolds back on I have a wizards of nos Nitrus kit sitting beside me and it is saying fit me fit me Now I don't often hear voices but after a good rummage I found the box of bits I had from when it was fitted before to my Dagenham dustbin ford V6 And I have a selection of nozzles and kit, which range from a rating of +50bhp to a whopping +150 bhp if the boxes are to be believed If anyone has after market turbo fit or supercharged a GS300 does anyone have and idea of what sort of power will the gaskets or bottom end take ?
  14. I took mine off today as I dismantled to get my cylinder head off in case they got knocked and damaged when the exhaust came off First I had the air intake tubing out of the way, simple enough with a 10 mm socket Next the heat shield was a doddle, 4 or was it 5 nuts, 12 mm socket lift the heat shield out of the way Now it is easy to see the Oxy sensors, 2 x 12 mm socket on the nuts each simply undo and it pulls out The hardest bit was getting the cable connectors to let go, I guess a few years grit and muck in the release doesn't help Seems 95% of the engine is undone with 10mm and 12mm sockets Now I have mine out, is there an easy way to check them ? or is it wait until they are back in and trundle down to Lexus for a diagnostic ? and if so what is the normal charge for a diagnostic check up ?
  15. Hi Winnie Unfortunately 100% sure, I can feel the power dropping as quick as the temperature rises and it is just to bad to be anything else I was trying to convince myself it wasn't the head gasket, but it definately is, all the symptons are there and now is the time to change it, although it is time consuming doing the gasket change it is relatively simple unbolt / clean / check / rebuild job on the engine, the main problem is lack of info on the engine, but I have managed to find a lot of stuff on here and the Supra web site But like all engines there are always the unexpected bits that pop up, like hidden bolts and where that "O" ring or seal is meant to go that you find in the kit when you have changed everything you can find Also I feel if I am going to fit the NO2 set I have then a new steel gasket will be cash and time well spent, especially as I have a suitable kit already I actually like NO2 set ups as unless you really floor the pedal a lot then it is probably the best £ per bhp value power increase available, especially as the GS has ample power to start with, just there for the extra push on overtaking or when you just want to pi** of mercs on slip roads
  16. Well I have spent a few hours dismantling my GS300 to do the head gasket surprisingly quite easy in many parts as I think due to the build quality of the original I have only had a problem with a few things The front cambelt cover is a bitch it the slotted head bolts are to tight, but a little perseverence and they did come out (eventually) a code of tippex on the multitude of air and vacuum pipes I hope will make reassembly easier and less of a drain on the memory A couple of really inaccesable bolts under the inlet manifold simply because the mountings for the air pipes is in the way So now all ancialliaries are off, and the cam covers removed waiting for me to remove the cam belt, this has been nicely marked and the engine put into position, again hopefully to make refit easier Now a few questions, come on people help me out here please, pretty please Do I have to remove the cams from their bearings to get to any of the head bolts ? between the spark plugs are hex sunk large bits these could be covers or just plugs, are there anything under these ? What if any is the best way to remove the cam belt from the pulleys ? does the cam lock or is there some other way ? All being well the head will come off in the morning then a check, new gaskets and back together, once i finish I should have a nice proceedure with good pictures that will help others out in the same boat
  17. Hi can anyone tell me if the head gasket on the Mk1 GS300 2JZ-GE 1994 is the same as the head gasket set for the 1997 to 1999 version The engine types match but is there an internal difference to the engine ? Thanks Ian
  18. Hello folks I have done a deal with the insurers after my bump and tomorrow I am swapping my Polo courtesy car back for my slightly dented Lexus (why oh why does anyone buy a Polo it is a dreadful car) I have decided to repair the car myself and pocket the money saved to do up the engine, which has always been a tad problematic and a bit of other stuff I have been thinking off So it is off with the head and new gaskets all round, I have had a slight missfire reoccuring and deep down I know its a gasket on its way out so will change that and hope my feelings are right, also I can hear a small blow from the exhaust manifold so may as well do the lot Can anyone help me before I start on the dismantle Are they normal bolt heads or special torque types ? because I haven't seen the actual head bolts yet Any clues on Torque for the head bolt refit, or is it two grunts a heave and 3 white knuckles Any hidden bolts on the head ? Any hints welcome or is there somewhere on the LOC site with a strip list I have missed Then once that is done, I have a nice wizards of noz NO2 kit that has been laying around for a while that was +70 bhp on a 3 litre V6 ford I had Has anyone fitted nitros oxide to a GS300 and if so were there any problems ? I am always a bit dubious when a mega engine management system like a Lexus is changed by NO2 as it can cause mega fuel issues as the oxy sensors sometimes go into overdrive
  19. After what seemed a reasonable simple insurance claim, I am in 2 minds to have it repaired by the repair bodyshop or to accept an offer of cash and the car and do it myself, then use the balance of the cash to do a few other jobs on the car First question, is the front wing a simple bolt off and bolt on option to cahngte the metalwork or is it much much worse Second question, is it easy (ish) to match the paint, mine is a white over silver one Thanks all
  20. Update time The insurance company called and they want to repair the car, so I am really glad about that as it took me ages to find one in budget and one in good enough condition that I liked enough to buy They have said that they also agree that since the accident the engine is underpowered, they have said that if I take the car to a garage that can diagnose any faults such as shock damage to the electrics or sensors they will look at paying for them to be repaired So my question is it only Lexus garages that have the laptops and data to check the engine out ? and has anyone any idea how much Lexus would charge to run the checks as I have to pay that out first and reclaim it after
  21. A friend of mine had a crack in her windscreen, and asked how much i thought it would cost her to get it repaired as it was on a Ford with a heated screen I told her £61.22 She asked how I could be so precise in costs That was £60 excess for her windscreen claim and £1.22 for the housebrick to throw at it to make sure it got changed and not just repaired
  22. I had a Zaffira, and it was nice and fast cornered well plenty of headroom mine was the diesel so very economical very well equiped for an MPV finished nice and it was crippling me so it went I had the standard shortish test drive and decided that what was on offer would suit my then present needs well. and was suitably impressed to buy it after a quick haggle ohhhhhhh dear what a mistake to-make-a although the drivers seat was fine on short journeys, drive 50 miles or more and take a day to recover, it didn't seem to matter where I put the seat i didn't suit it so before you make a decision, ask for the car for the day if it is from a garage, and actually drive some miles in it, you are probably a different size and shape to me, you may feel good, all I know is I hated it after I bought it and couldn't wait to dump it Ohhhh and if you have kids give them a paper bag, a mc donalds shake and drive around a few roundabouts and sleeping policemen, and duck as your zafirra changes interior colour I learnt a lot about test drives from that and now comfort is the thing I look for, before anything else, most cars go fast(ish) they all go stop and work, make sure you don't feel worse at the end of the hourney, it spoils the arrival
  23. Now this may seem a silly question, but I am 18 and a bit stone of sheer muscle (well the wife does have these fantasies) and I am 6ft 5 My son is 6ft 6 but not so muscular I am looking at adverts for Soarers, now there doesn't seem to any close to Cornwall for sale and I can't remember seeing any close Will we fit in it ? height wise headroom and legroom ? What room if any is in the rear for occasional passengers Just I don't want to travel miles to look at a Soarer if I can't sit in it comfy
  24. Just be glad it wasn't me on my motorbike, I might not be here to write this, and you could be looking at a few years in prison for causing death by dangerous driving... You're probably feeling bad enough already, but it could have been a whole lot worse when you look at it like that! Mike Hi Mike As a biker myself I 100% agree with you, and I was feeling like a twa* But tonite a wierd twist happened, someone from where I live turned up that I had only seen in the road before so not a mate or anything, and he said he was behind the car behind the one I hit, although he was a few yards away, well, this is what he said, you make up your own mind. The other car was parked by the side of the road, when I pulled out, quite slowly, the car accelerated straight at me, and it looked like I was being aimed at, in his opinion he could have stopped, but he didnt even brake His mrs said at the time don't stop don't get involved, but he came around because he thought I should know what he said he saw I don't know what to think now, are there really suicide jockeys around looking for a bump ?
  25. Double ooops, I bumped my GS300 yesterday, not as bad as yours though, glad your ok One thing I did notice when the Toyota Carina hit my wing (not that it was their fault ) was that their wing, lights, bonnet, bumper, panels all knackered bad, the GS was hardly as bad and I was 100% safe and hardly knew I had been hit I still don't believe the cost of the bumper, lights and wheel arch trims which need replacing and will probably write the car off on its own
