  1. Mine does exactly the same, I oiled it pulled it and pushed it and it still wouldn't budge And i thought i had a dodgy one seems not
  2. They are having a laugh mate From what I hear the GS and LS arent that far apart on insurance costs I have 0 no claims now (bugg** since a bump) over 50 me and the wife drive and i still only pay half that fully comp on a GS Shop around and when they call you up to ask what you have been quoted elsewhere I suggest you say about £ 250 to 300 and watch the prices tumble
  3. Jamie Hi I will do a full foto set when I am happy with the complete set up, at the moment it is a bit of a cable tie do up, as it was put in as I put it to the wife "just to see what happens" Wow does it happen, but it isn't to the quality of what I like to achieve, once I have it running properly with the right progressive valve etc, then I will do a full piccy thing of it The one thing about Nos kits is that unlike a supercharger or turbo set up where there are nice shiny things under the bonnet to look at and poke and spend hours polishing and everyone goes ooooh nice thingies, all there is under mine is a few coloured hoses, which actually is a little dissapointing when you open it at the moment
  4. Originally it is a Wizards of Nos kit but I think a few different bits have crept in over the years as I bought it second hand already fitted, I don't think the actual nozzles are Wiz bits as they look different, very high quality machining on them, but they somehow don't actually match if you know what I mean I used to have the kit on a V6. 3.0 ford which used to cripple porsches and the like, I even had a Lotus Carlton follow me once just to ask wtf I had under the bonnet, then I kept the kit when I sold the car, but that was a long long time ago in a galaxy far far away When I found the kit again I sort of looked at kit looked at the GS and looked at kit and looked at GS and smiled :D So I just had to have a play around But it is all go or nothing and yes I need a progressive kit controller, I am sure I had one back then but at my age now the memory isn't that good LOL, and yes Jamie it is currently a slam the foot and whoosh, we tested it with an exhaust analyser and everything went good, hardly a flicker on the readings as the ECU must have thrown buckets of fuel in to compensate I do like Nos as for 98% of the time the car is completely standard and drives as such, all nice and refined and easy as the GS has ample go for me in normal mood and mode and no nasty whirly turbos or superchargers to go wrong, but when u need or want it what a kick
  5. A while ago I fitted a NO2 kit to the GS that I originally had for another car A nice extra 150 bhp + for pennies basically it was wooooohoooooooo here we go and scary at the same time, massively faster acceleration especially mid range when the pedal was floored and more uncontrollable than The Starship Enterprise on speed, and a little scary, ok a lot scary, well it scared her indoors more than me I took the bottle out of the boot and disabled the system so I haven't used it till I have had time to get it sorted And now I have the time If anyone has experience on Nitrus of fitting a proportional valve system or can recomend one, to bring the NO2 power on in a more controlled way can they let me know, as all that happens at the moment is whoosh bang power goneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
  6. Hi folks just thought I would share this with you As above loads of problems cold starting, I just couldn't find the problem at all About 2 months ago I changed the battery for a new one, well basically it was rubbish, as well as being a small one it had a problem and wasn't holding charge as it should have and although the engine turned a little slow on cranking the voltage was dropping 2 batteries are listed for the GS300, a 420 amp and a 570 amp, and although I asked for a heavy duty battery they provided the smaller one It seems that the ECU wasn't getting the right volts from the battery on start up and didn't want to play, hence no start New heavy duty battery being fitted today under warranty and hopefully all will be well
  7. If your water pump had gone, the first sign is that you would see water coming from the centre shaft Also you would overheat big time in a couple of minutes Because that is what happened to me :tsktsk: If it is OK with normal driving but only overheating in slow traffic I would say that the electric fan isn't working right, that is on the right hand side of the radiator as you look in from the front, an electric plug on the right of that unit should be in firm You can disconnect the plug and put 12 volt from your battery directly across the fan, but watch out you dont short it by touching the wire to the wrong terminal To get to the electric fan temperature sensor is a right game as usual it seems to have been installed then the engine built around it The grating noise can be anything that is rotating, with the engine turned off have a look under the bonnet for wear marks especially around the fan, turn the fan by hand and see if it is touching the cowling, if it is you should be able to move the cowling a little to clear it Then have a look at the belt as well, as it is a very long one if there is a crack or the belt has perished then that can sound terrible The easiest thing to do is to get a socket on the tensioner (the arm in the middle) and push it down and it releases the belt simply flick it off and if the belt looks worn in any way, replace it, while that is off have a feel of the tensioner pully, it should feel nice and smooth as you turn in any sign of it binding is bad, but easy enough to change If you still haven't found it open the bonnet with the engine running and have a listen to try and find the area of the noise
  8. Down in the deep southwest we have been lucky as most of the bad wet stuff has passed me by Still the worst summer on record so lets hope August bucks up a bit On the plus side there are a lot less grockle huts on the road which has to be a bonus
  9. :tsktsk: When it is a reasonably warm day I jump into the GS300 Mk1 and it starts instantaneously :D When it is a bit cold (this morning 6:15) and I really wanting to go somewhere for the day, it turns over and over and over and will not start, this has happened 3 or 4 times now and is making me a bad tempered miserable old git (wifeys comment at 6:25 this morning) I leave the car until the day warms up and away it starts first time and goes brilliant :D Just for the record it has new plugs, HT leads, distributor cap, all nicely doused in WD40, and the head gasket is 100% since I replaced it and skimmed the head, the NO2 system is not connected I checked this morning and there is a fantastic spark to the plugs It is just like there is no choke, no cold start at all Is there a temperature sensor and control for cold start ? what controls the cold start ? Please help as the wife has threatened to divorce me for moaning and having tantrums in the early mornings
  10. Sounds like a fuel starvation problem to me As it is good on petrol, you can say it doesn't seem to be ignition or petrol problem So looking at the LPG system have you got a leak, or a crimped hose ? Is there a gauze strainer type filter in the LPG system, sometimes if you have an iffy dirty refill then the gauze can get covered in a type of gell which basically closes the holes in the gauze, a quick depress of the pedal will cause an initial revs rise then die as the pressure to the engine drops, after a few seconds (which seems like years) the pressure will build up again and surge and rev again Then it gets into a cycle of pressure raise - surge pressure drop - die pressure raise - surge
  11. I have seen these kits on a mates Jaguar XJ and it looks the doggies danglies He has the door bits and bits for the steering wheel as well Took him ages to get it fitted as he is a bit of a perfectionist, but as in all decorating the time in preperation is the key
  12. He did have one as I saw his LS on Ebay as well, the man has some taste at least Lexus is the best value per £ per smile you can buy, you can't go wrong if you gat a good un
  13. it is the standard auto box with the overdrive so yep a 4 speed
  14. Seriously I topped the tank before and after and double checked it to make sure I hadn't done something daft like convert to american (with large fries jumbo burger and a diet coke) type gallons OK most of the time was on motorway / dual carriageway and cruise controlled to a sedate 70 ish 361 miles on the speedo, 45 litres in the tank, the actual litres was 45.22 I know I don't get that sort of mileage around Cornish and Devon lanes, but usually average out around the 25 ish MPG then
  15. I had an 827 as well, 0 to 30 time ace, I never worked out the 0-60 time as I don't think it ran that long before it broke down If only they made a new version of the 3.5 SDI Vitesse, I would go and buy another tomorrow, I still compare the Lex against it
  16. Well thank you very very much :tsktsk: 5 hours on that and got to 25 damn addictive though :shutit:
  17. Like you I have a Mk1 GS300 and I am amazed that you get such bad fuel consumption, OK if I am 100% around town and booting it heavy up and down hills then, yes it is rubbish MPG but overall I am quite happy with the consumption There is a lot of confusion about people claiming high MPG and saving a fortune when running on LPG, actually running on LPG gets approximately 25% less miles per litre than running on petrol The savings aren't in miles per gallon or litre but in fuel cost per mile LPG at 40 pence per litre that does 18 to the gallon costs 8 pence per mile in LPG Petrol at 95.9 pence per litre that does 25 to the gallon costs 15 pence per mile in Petrol in other words LPG is roughly half the price per mile to run than petrol, but you will definately use more LPG than you thought I think I read on here somewhere that the average costs of a pro LPG conversion on a GS300 is about £2,000 ? so if you work on a cost per mile saving of 7 pence then you have to cover 28,571 miles before you have got back your investment of 2K, only then will you start saving running costs Also using LPG creates much higher temperatures in exhausts which can cause problems with O2 sensors and other bits and pieces in high tech computer overloaded cars like a Lexus I did speak to a LPG convertor a whole ago, and he said that where a car like a Lexus registers a weak mixture in the ECU by running LPG it will turn on the petrol injectors as well to bring the mixture back to a normal level, and if the LPG system isn't set up right then for a lot of the time and especially under high speed or high loads you can use almost as much petrol as LPG which sort of defeats the object of the reason to LPG a car
  18. went to a wedding the weekend and filled the GS300 L reg 1995 to the brim drove a round trip of 362 miles pwr on , overdrive on, mostly dual carriageway with cruise control on just above the legal thingy speed and about 60 miles of cornish lanes came back and topped the tank today used 45 litres / 9.9 gallons gives me 36.5 MPG which I am really happy with and quite honestly more than I thought I was going to get
  19. That is the best mod I have ever seen on a car, how cool would that be Far better than a lambo door and far cooler than a fridge full of Polar Bears
  20. The proof of the pudding is in the blah blah blah etc etc Forget track days, forget ultimate speed, forget ultimate acceleration, forget racing weights, all these are meaningless in the real world, the real test of any car is how it performs on normal roads in normal days use How many of us really have the ability, the will, or the desire to get to 60 in the brochure published nano sconds every time we hit the pedal, i doubt if 5% of drivers ever actually achieve the 0-60 time or even the top speed of their car The M3 is a very good and very fast car, so will be the F, both will go fantastically fast, handle like they are on rails, and have great seats, the real test will be in how it makes you feel at the end of the day My GS300 isn't the fastest car I have driven, it is not even the fastest car in my drive, it is not even the best handling car on the drive, but with the combination of all the elements, the comfort, the quietness and the non fussy way it does it all makes me feel good when I drive it, my friends M5 beemer makes me feel like cack when I am a passanger, our cossie ride is rubbish but it goes like the wind and will drop a ferrari at the lights and that is 20 years old, my daughters Punto runs rings around the GS on roundabouts, our 1984 Nissan pick up has a bigger boot and has never once broken down Top gear ranting on and on about how a M3 is 0.02 seconds over a 2 mile track than an R4 or an F is usless input in reality, unless you are going to enter touring cars world series next year
  21. And there was me thinking I couldn't do maths anymore, I thought I had the sums mixed up or something, logic tells my brain that PWR means more go and less mpg My GS gets better fuel consumption in pwr as well I reckon it is down to reaching cruising speed faster rather than labouring the engine a little Also on the motorway everyone has always told me that cruise control removes lots of MPG,,, mine just sits at 70 sipping the fuel so it is almost economical, I switch between the two and the revs are always higher at the same speed when in foot control rather than cruise control wierd isn't it ?
  22. Hey Rikos Thanks for mentioning Bell I went on their web site and they were £52 cheaper than Admiral Which surprises me somehow as their write up says they are part of Admiral Not that I am complaining at all but a happy bunny
  23. And why is it that Amnesia is so hard to remember to spell correctly ? Why on Star Trek when they were always going where no man had gone before,,, did they always meet someone else who was already there ?
  24. I am dissapointed, renewal due next month and Churchill upped their last year premium a lot so time for shopping around I promissed I would try APlan after reading about it on here, and I did, got a call back at the time I asked etc etc and as usual a whole load of questions and chat APlan quote was almost twice what Admiral quoted and that was the cheapest for me mentioned LOC and was asked what is Lexus Owners Club, hell the guy must have been a genius to not work out what Lexus Owners Club meant, duhhhhhhhhh a club for some people that own Lexus cars maybe ? Maybe next year they will be a little better, rather than a lot worse
