  1. Does the lead that came with the head unit not have connector at both ends? The small connector (ISO) plugs into the head unit and the larger connector on the other end plugs into your amp bypass lead. Hi Mark, thanks for the reply. The answer is unfortunately no ive uploaded pics of the lead that came with the head unit, the connector on the head unit and the connector on the end of the lead. does that connector look like the one on the ct51-lx01? cheers Ads
  2. hi all, (especially ormi as he has a jvc head unit) Im an expat living in Australia and have a 2003 is200 platinum - I think its the same as an SE My CD player conked out a few weeks ago so Ive bought a jvc double din dvd unit - JVC KW-AVX746 from here in Australia. I had to buy the amp bypass lead, Connects2 CT51-LX01 that everyone talks about from the uk as I couldnt find it over here, this hasnt arrived yet. Im quite happy with the bypassing of the amp but what I am worried about is the connection to the back of the head unit. The head unit has come with a connector plug with 16 wires coming out the back (labelled, ground, electric ariel, steering wheel remote etc + all the speakers) What I want to know is does the bypass lead go straight into the back of the head unit or do I have to do some splicing of cables and the like? I cant find any pics of this connector on the net any info greatly recieved Ads
  3. Cheers to all. Ill get quotes from all of em and see which one suits. Its such a drag. Wife crashes car, I have to take time off work to trapse round garages and get quotes, I then pay for work to be done. Doesnt seem right to me :D Ahhh married life, such a joy
  4. Great, Thanks Gord, Ill look em up on Monday Ad
  5. Hi chaps and chapesses Can anybody recommend a decent reasonably priced body shop in the Manchester area. Preferably South East as Im in Denton but I can travel if needs be. My good lady wife put a nice gatepost mark down the door and wheel arch :tsktsk: Many thanks for advice Ad
  6. It's a revenue raiser.DVLA sell plates that can be personalised but have the gall to say it is illegal to alter spacings etc. Only trouble with warnings, from the Police point of view, is that unless they get recorded as official warnings there is no way of telling how many times someone has been stopped and warned and over what period of time until the same officer is involved again. Yeh, this was the discussion I had with my missus. It annoys me that the DVLA bang on about them saying you can 'personalise' your car etc but then have all these petty rules. Anyway its a lesson learnt - It was a £30 fine and 17 quid for new plates. PC Jobsworth took pics of the front and rear of the car and then delighted in telling me that if I 'offended' again the plates would be taken off me as the DVLA actually still own them - they are just kind enough to rent them to me. I do agree with Stevie and all the other peeps on here that say I should have expected it. I know its wrong, its just bloody petty. I didnt have any fancy type face, black screw cap or anti reflection stuff, standard black type with just one character slightly shifted. Just petty. Anyway like I say its a lesson learnt - I hope this post might save another member 50 quid in the future Ad
  7. Watch Spooks. Everyone in MI5 drive Lexus' Were in goooood company!
  8. Got pulled today for incorrect spacing on my plates. Captain Jobsworth in his BMW X5 told me that the computerised plate reading system that the five-0 use cannot make sense of L3X SA, however it can make sense of L3 XSA. what a load of horse$hit - so he made out he was actually doing me a favour because if my lex got stolen they wouldnt be able to track it if the plate was 'wrong' . I didnt argue with him as I couldnt be bothered. Just 50 quid down the drain
  9. nah mate. looks exactly the same as mine. youre right its steel. Im looking out for one of those screw on chrome tips but apparently theyre like gold dust now. Ads
  10. do a search - there are a fair number of posts advising against them. You are best to use IK20 plugs (NGK or DENSO) I just ordered 6 from ebay USA from a guy called pili-car. hes got pretty good stats and he was a bit cheaper than the other USA bloke that was mentioned in the other posts. Cheers Ad edit - mine were £42.80 delivered
  11. Well, I think I know understand why StevieWevie originally posted his request - Part no 42603-53060 does not fit in the 11 spoke alloy. I bought some to put in mine and it sticks out about 1mm when pushed all the way in, this would allow some little scrote to nick them so there going back. Ive gone for the 70 quid ones now.
  12. That doesn't sound right. Are you sure your K&N filter is installed correctly and the airbox is closed properly ? Maybe I'm imagining it, but I too think it does change the engine note slightly, a bit more of a growl as you say :) No Stevie and Monti - Im sure your right, it definitely growls a bit more now and Im sure the car seems to pull off a tiny bit quicker. Then again my stock filter was absolutely caked in crap, bits of leaves and all sorts. Dunno when it was last changed, so maybe thats why I felt I noticed a difference
  13. Ive just been thru exactly the same steps as Mr Stig on my Platinum Ice. I used all the info in this post - thanks alot everyone who posted I used Autoglym shampoo, then Meguires clay bar and detailer, then another wash and dry, then Meguires stage 3 carnuba wax. Im well chuffed with the results. I couldnt beleive what a difference the clay bar made - it was like silk after I used that Its a week later now and I have driven through lots of muddy puddles and a bird has shat on the roof (Ill not take her out again). My question is what do I have to do now? Just a quick wash or a wash and wax again? Thanks chaps and chapesses Ill post some pics of my baby soon but I just need some alloy centre caps and a body shop to sort out the 'rear door meets gatepost' incident that my dear dear wife was involved in! 14. Yeh, I even got a brand new set of nuts (I said stop sniggering!) and a new set of locking wheel nuts in one of my boxes from bluemackie. Not sure they should have been there but I cant complain Well done on winning those Rich and thanks ddadon, Ill look them up spose 47 quid + vat comes out to about what Rich paid - still damn expensive tho. I just spotted these from the US http://www.centercaps.net/caps/details.php?stockNumber=25. I think they look right, Ill drop em an email and see whether theyre the right ones and how much they will be shipped - might be worth getting a few sets judging on the interest on ebay :) edit - wow I just saw the shipping on the website its $10 per centrecap and each cap is $16 - so thats $26 / 2ish - about £13 - £15 quid each Also - to answer my own question, I went to a specialist wheel place yesterday (Dave Sheldon in Salford) he said that I wouldnt find any non-original caps that would fit in original Lexus alloys, or if I did then they wouldnt fit properly - theyd pop out when the wheel expanded in different temperatures etc. So looks like we have to bend over and take it off Lexus :(
  15. I too got some wheels off bluemackie - absolutely mint condition and hes a really nice bloke. Just wanted to bump this thread and ask what everyones doing about centre caps. Theres a set from Lexus birm on fleabay but I think everyone is bidding on em - there already nearly 50 quid and I refuse to pay that for a few crappy bits of plastic. Ive measured my hole (no sniggering please!) and I think its 590mm on the inside and 640mm on the outside of the lip. This doesnt seem to tie up with any 'no brand' universal fit sets I can find. Has anyone any experiences with caps they know fit? Appreciated Ads
  16. This was the car I used to own. (not specifically of course) but I had a black '99 2.3t. They are pretty decent and it didnt half shift but all the complaints above ring true. I never trusted it mechanically either, you can read lots of horror stories about knackered turbos after 40,000 miles (800 quid to replace) oil sludge in the sump which ends up starving parts of the engine of oil (new engine at worst) DI cassettes going on fire or just stopping working - these are a replacenment for HT leads (100 quid or sometimes your catalytic converter gets showered in fuel and it ends up costing you hundreds) I blame GM for this - apparently the old 'real' Saabs used to go forever and ever. The 95 was just a great big Vectra I just kind of didnt expect such design flaws from a 30 grand car (I didnt pay anything like that of course) and theres another thing about them there worth jack$h1t after about 5 years Anyway Im pleased to be back in the japanese fold again and am looking forward to many troublefree miles!!
  17. Looks sweet mate, really nice. Is the grille built into the front bumper on that kit then? Ads
  18. The best autostart systems are the ones in dressing gown and slippers who nip out start your car, then serve you a full fried breakfast and a mug of tea to send you on your way. In colder weather you may have to exert more force to push them from under the duvet though. Yeh but they cost an absolute fortune. And its not just the purchase price - they need regular servicing :winky: and they are a constant drain on funds
  19. Ive just managed to do one of mine today. Ive gone for black Hammerite satin on the caliper with silverfoil decals (thanks SteveL!) and Im gonna spray the rear drums silver. Nice and understated. ok ok ok so the wife disagreed with me painting them red :) Id have probably managed a bit more today but I think a 300lb gorilla with an air wrench screwed my wheel nuts on :tsktsk: , I had to take it to a garage to have one of em taken off! He used a 6 ft steel extension bar to undo it. Anyway all back on bladdered with coppergrease now. Ill post pics of my calipers when Im done Ads
  20. Hiya Thirl, Do you mean Primacy HPs? I think so. My dealings with Michelins havent been great. I had them on my Saab and wasnt best impressed, seemed quite noisy - these were Pilot Primacy's tho - so prolly a somewhat different tyre. Toyo's seem well recommended on here. Im definitely going for these when its time for a rubber change. Do a search - theres even a specific forum for them http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...hp?showforum=30 Good luck whatever you go for mate.
  21. Main reason was just to cover that its a V plate. Its like a new car. they do age well dont they. :P I spose I should be proud that its in such good nick for a V plate. Anyway does anyone know why so many Lexi have private plates?
  22. I just picked up L3X SA - wifes inital then my initial. Would have liked L3XAS (my initials) but its already gone and would have been more than £250 Just ordered the plates in the format L3X SA , and not L3 XSA. I wonder if the local dibble will have a whinge. we shall see Ads
  23. Hiya Got my gold member pack thru today. Lots of stickers to adorn my lovely motor! I wonder when Ill get my gold member box over there too Ads
  24. Hiya Chips, I agree - wouldnt it be nice eh? I now always take my daughter to on every supermarket trip so I can park in the mother and baby spaces :) The place I was at there was the Oldham branch of Costco - which incidentally, for all you bargain hunters, does Mobil1 0-40 at about 22 quid for 4 litres. Perhaps we should tell the Lexus stealerships that 4 litres shouldnt cost 65 notes ;) They also have a tyre fitting service which is pretty top notch, unfortunately they only sell Michelin which are too pricey anyway cheers Ads (now I am a golden member - oo-er missus)
  25. Yeh, maybe some little extras, Id be more into styling I think though - from what Ive seen so far it looks quite hard + expensive to give our sheeps in wolfs clothing any teeth. superchargers and turbos and stuff, Im not that technically minded when it comes to cars we'll see though - Ill probably get bitten by the bug This is the first car in a long time where Ive just been sitting in the house and decided to go for a drive for no reason whatsoever, its just such a nice drive. The kids have never had so many lifts! I'd love to come to some meets. Ill look out for all you Manchester/Stockport lads too :)
