Hi All, In the O/S boot well (the N/S being the one that houses the satnav) is a grey wire with a co-ax adapter on the end of it. It's tied to the cross member but looks like it should be connected to something! I've spoken to Graham8370 this evening (we have similar vehicles) and his LS has the same. Does anyone have any idea what it's for? Steve

Insurance
steve-bedford replied to ROYT's topic in LS 400 / Lexus LS 430 / Lexus LS 460 / Lexus 600h / Lexus 500h Club
My broker told me that I couldn't have the thrid party cover due to mine being insured for 15k business miles per annum. It's a pain but he sourced a really good premium / excess combination so that makes up for it for me. -
And I thought it was just me that had these faults!! I agree, it's a silly feature which is nothing short of a gimmick (but it does give my beer belly a bit more room!) I had the same problem, then when the stolen vehicle tracking device was fitted the engineer had to retract the steering wheel to it's maximum setting (i.e. out and down towards the driver's seat cushion) so that he could get behind the speedo. This extreme angle seems to have done the trick for now and it's worked fine ever since - No doubt it will return at some point though! Give this a try first. I'd also be tempted to take off the steering column cover and see if there either anything obstructing it. Good luck - Let us know how it goes.

Ls430 On Lpg
steve-bedford replied to Haylands's topic in LS 400 / Lexus LS 430 / Lexus LS 460 / Lexus 600h / Lexus 500h Club
Documenting this is an excellent idea Pete. I'm sure lots of peole will benefit as the LS430 gets older and into the territory for more DIY. Slighly off topic, but very related. I've always driven big engined / thirsty cars and done a reasonable mileage. I've never ever managed to get the LPG business case to stack up for me though. i.e. I would just never break even, let alone get any pay back. I would be as intrigued to see your calculations in case I'm missing something although I'm guessing you have connections that mean your installation costs are much lower than the norm. My other nagging concern is that ever since the government lost interest in LPG, I do wonder how interested the oil companies will be in bringing LPG to the forecourts in another 2 / 5 / 10 years time. A crystall ball would be nice wouldn't it?! -
From your picture I don't really see much difference from a tyre size point of view. The GPS speed from sat nav (whichever brand) is totally and utterly accurate in terms of real speed, it's maybe just a half a second behind in terms of time. It goes to show how far out vehicle speedometers are (they are allowed to be + 10%). Edited - Thanks Pete! Yes, the OEM sat nav is useless by today's standards, it looks so dated as well. In fairness, it was a pretty good effort 10 years ago though. It just goes to show how quickly technology moves on.

I also have a Smartnav Touchscreen (in addition to the OEM sat nav) and that shows the speedo speed is at about 75 at a true GPS 70MPH. This just means that your speedo is more accurate but worth giving extra caution when approaching the "safety partnership vans" (scammers) in 30 zones. I'll be very interested to know how you get on over time, especially from a ride / handling / noise combination. As it stands, I have plenty of tread but have no intention of spending £800 for a set of new shoes - if I still have it then!

I had a response from Lexus GB at last................. Firstly I apologise for the late reply to your email, we have been experience some problems with our new email system. I can advise you thant the location for the antenna is positioned centrally under the dashboard, if there is anything else I can help you with then please contact me.

If you're not confident to do it yourself (like me!) - Get an HPI check and RAC inspection done on it - It's much better value than any warranty in my opnion. RAC will always "find something wrong" that you can use in the price negotiations (which pays their bill). It also means you can go knocking on their door should anything crop up that they should have spotted later on. From your perspective, just try sitting in it to make sure you can get really comfortable. I wish I'd done this. There's nothing actually wrong with the seat set up other than the distance between the seat cushion and the roof is not great if you're very tall. The Japanese just can't grasp this as they're all under 5'. Japanese cars also tend to have very very light controls (brakes, steering, throttle) and they always have done. I vividly remember my driving lessons in a Nissan Micra! I regard this as being detracted from the entire driving expereince and devoid of any feel. Others like it. It's just my view, there's no right or wrong answer here but just make sure you can get on with it and live with it in daily life.

In my opinion, unless there is a very good reason for doing so I would leave well alone. It's bound to be far more complicated than first thought, could cause you problems when you want to sell on and takes you down a path of what is classed as a modification from an insurance perspective. Series IVs are going for peanuts now and the prices are heading south all the time. If it was me, I'd invest the money in a newer one which will have all the bits on it straight from the factory.

Hi Guys, For info - I called the dealer today (out of interest) to see the price for a replacement GPS antenna (fitted) on the basis that I could do some digging in terms of where it's actually located. The dealer said it was under the rear shelf then a colleague shouted over and reckoned that was the "older" version and that mine would be under the dash. I didn't get a great feeling of confidence from this so I'm not really any the wiser other than it's £300 for the part and £250 for labour. Let's hope nobody ever needs one!!

The tracking device has its own GPS antenna. That won't interfere with the vehicle's GPS antenna as they're purely dormant there to receive GPS. But what could be happening though (depending on how the tracking device was "wired in") is that it could be creating an electromagentic loop which is effectively what a GPS jammer does. A random example here.........> http://uk.gizmodo.com/2006/11/18/gps_gsm_c...ammers_hit.html Very popular amoung white van man who does not want GPS tracking telling his fleet manager where he is.

Rabnoolas - Great idea. I also find it useful to "front in" to parking spaces which means you leave the problem until later in the day - lol (joke) Chrisfs - My mirror does exactly the same see my earlier post.........> http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...showtopic=47152 It just moves (the casing this is not the glass) just very slightly but enough not to be able to see the side of the vehicle. As you say, folding the mirrors in and out fixes it. Can that be fixed or does it need a new mirror?
