  1. I have the 10" rear wheels on my car with 275 wide tyres on at present which I need to replace. I am finding that this width of tyre is rather pricey with a limited choice and price range whilst the 265 wide tyres are more plentiful with a greater price range choice. Does anyone run 265 tyres on their GS and would there be a significant difference either performance wise or cosmetically between the two widths?
  2. Have been looking at Pirelli P6's which looked interesting till I looked on here http://www.1010tires.com/tirereviews/Pirel...re_reviews.html - and read all the problems experienced by Canadian drivers. Can't find many reviews from UK owners - does anyone have experience of this tyre? Thanks
  3. Does anyone have any experience of these tyres? Would they be any good on the rear of a Mk1 GS300 with 10" wide rear wheels. I need some tyres quick and these seem to be a real budget alternative to the Conti's that I normally buy.
  4. Funny you say that, the guy who services my car used to have a few soarers and a couple of LS's knocking around, generally all V8's and yes I was tempted. I just love the look of the GS and can't give mine up.
  5. Hi Fella Have not heard from you for a while. Not many of us older members about these days. Not sure about your GS but I met a guy in SE London who owns MAC's old grey GS300 and it still looks as good as it always did.
  6. Yeah just a tad too early. I think the location is behind the glove box or on the bulkhead just inside the engine bay. Have a look here http://www.scribd.com/doc/18986374/Lexus-G...-Manual-EWD171U which is quite helpful for locating where things are albeit its for left hand drive models.
  7. Can someone with a very late Mk1 GS300 give me the main engine ECU ref and the MAF sensor ref. Or alternatively are there interchangable parts from say the Supra that are compatible and give more BHP. Thanks
  8. Does anyone have one for a 1995 GS300 that is surplus to requirements or know where I might get a recon unit/replacement. Any help/advice appreciated. Thanks
  9. Looking for a power steering pump as I think mine is on its last legs. Does anyone know where I can get a good second hand or recon one from. Is it worth trying a breaker? Thanks
  10. Good luck - they are as rare as rocking horse poo. I struck lucky a couple of years ago and got a good pair. Be careful if you find some as they are prone to bodged repairs.
  11. Check the drive belt to make sure it isn't loose and also the pulley. That would seem the probable cause as both the a/c and power steering seem affected. By drive belt do you mean the belt that I can see rather than the cambelt?
  12. Fluid level is OK and aircon seems as cool as its always been. Will check belt
  13. I noticed today when parking that my power steering was making all sorts of noises from ticking to a sort of crackling noise. Its ok when idling on the drive and ok when driving. The car is a 95 model year so could it be time for a replacement? Does anyone know if the steering rack is mechanical and rebuildable or are they electronic like the Mk2's. I have also noticed that my aircon compressor also makes a noise at idle too, not sure if it is all related or not. Can anyone offer any help/advice. Thanks
  14. I noticed today when out in the GS when going up a fairly steep hill my engine seemed to be 'pinking'. Its definitely throttle related as the harder I accelerated the worse it seemed to get. It was a very hot humid day and I had just completed a fairly spritely 150 mile trip on mainly 'A' roads. The car is regularly serviced but is due a cam belt change and has covered just over 115,000 miles. Anyone know what the noise might be?
  15. I have tried 285's and they rubbed quite badly. I was going to get the rear arch inner lip rolled but due to a spot of luck was able to swap them for a pair of 275's and all is well now.
  16. I'd be interested Mat if price is reasonable as mine are just matt black blanks on a blue bumper and one is scuffed too.
  17. Mine is a 1995 model and when i took my rear bumper off to fit some parking sensors there was no wiring evident unless there is a connector lurking in the boot somewhere.
  18. Hi finest1 Unfortunately I don't have the details. From what I remember they were from a Canadian company with a UK affiliate as there was a UK fitting advice number given. They are plentiful on Ebay as others have mentioned.
  19. Hi I have had a conversion kit fitted to my car for the past 4 years or so. Technically they are not legal but you can get by if you have a MK1 with projector lamps, your headlamp leveller works and your headlamp washers work. I have 4500K as they are close to what the OEM standard was for the era so they do not attract attention. As for the brightness compared to the standard Xenon bulbs there is no comparison as the standard factory set up for the quality of the car is pants. I would get a kit as the prices have come down and they are so easy to fit being 'plug and play' and if you ever want to change back you can, but you wont!
  20. I wish I had the opportunity to follow your write up a year ago when I did mine. Had exactly same problems. As far as the opening of the boot is concerned the struts will not make it open filly they just allow it to pop open when you pull the lever inside the car but as you note it will not fall on your head when you are putting stuff in or taking stuff out of the boot.
  21. I fitted an HiD head lamp conversion kit to my Mk1 GS about 3 years ago and one bulb has blown. I have an idea as to what colour they are but am not sure of the bulb fitting. Does anyone know if the after market kits all take the same type of bulb?
  22. Jemster - keep your original wheels as they are now as rare as rocking horse sh@t. You definitely have the more desireable set up with the 10" rears and 8.5" standard fronts. The 10" wide rears was an option on the sport model over the standard 8.5" wide wheel side Incidently a pair of 10" wide rear wheels sold on Ebay recently for £300 (with tyres). The correct tyre sizes are 245 40 18 on the front and 275 35 18 on the rear (the rears for some reason have a slightly lower profile tyre). Cost of refurbing the standard sport wheels used to be around £65 + VAT, so far cheaper than buying new.
  23. Just been reading this thread, just out of interest my 'M' reg GS Sport has the small raised black 'Sport' logo sticker thingy on the bumper rather than the decal. I do however have the decals on the rear quarter lights
  24. Welcome back mate. Have not seen you post for a while. Do you still have the GS then? Not many of us 'oldies' about these days, most seem to have moved on a series.
