Anyone has idea on when the meet starts and ends? Helps me decide if I need a hotel for the night before/after.
-
25th for me.
-
1 ticket for me please, IS200, 3 days.
-
Should have paid you when we met at the meet on Sunday, oh well..... 1 ticket for me please.
-
Thread cleanup.
-
Nice to catch up with everyone there and hear some good stories from the Easter Ring trip :D
Good meet but a little let down by a Beemer driver blasting his music, typical
-
Blimey, gutted for you mate, isn't this the 2nd time in the last few months you've been bumped into?
-
I have a Janspeed cat back (seems to be rare choice?), and it's as quiet as the OEM exhaust until the engine reaches high RPM, so it's good if you want something really subtle, but may be considered too subtle for some.
-
Nearly £200 for a set, ouch!
I did manage to pick up 1 front side illunminated sill from a scrapyard for USD$50, but as they are like gold dust I doubt I ever will find another spare one lying around.

The scooby thread is a comparison between 9006 and HIR bulbs showing the difference in brightness, as dazz32 was enquiring about it, nothing to do with HID there, sorry if there was some confusion.
Yes the video is old, when HID just started appearing on the market and prices were high. Prices have gone down significantly but the science behind HID retrofit kits haven't changed.
"From time to time, I am asked to comment on what are marketed as "new developments" in HID kits, and those asking sometimes point out to me that these "new developments" might render this article out-of-date, since the copyright date on the article is older than the date of these "new developments". Please understand, marketeers will always be coming up with dazzling new pseudoscience, tempting new hype and sneaky new ways of trying to convince you to buy their stuff. It's what they do. This article will never go out of date, because the problems with HID kits are conceptual problems, not problems of implementation. Therefore, they cannot be overcome by additional research and development, any more than someone could develop a way for you to put on somebody else's eyeglasses and see correctly."

Again I stress I'm not going to stop others from using HIDs, I'm just saying there are halogen alternatives out there that are fairly bright too, and I'm certainly not in any position to address the legal enforcement aspects of HIDs, I'm simply presenting the information I've found on the matter.
1 more thing, that "not very bright" guy in the end of the video is Edmund King, now the President of AA :D

I'm going out on a limb here, as many LOC members swear by their HID kits ("best mod ever"), but I'm going to stick with my believe that they are illegal. Watch the video:
Please wait a few seconds for Video to Load!Yes I know many say they have passed MOT with them, or some have decided just to take the HID off for the test, but the basic problem is that "halogen headlamps and HID headlamps require very different optics to produce a safe and effective—not to mention legal—beam pattern." Read the full article here:
http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/bu...onversions.html
Therefore I have researched into ways of getting brighter lights using the same halogen technology, from +30/50% brighter bulbs, using HB3/9005 (65W) instead of original HB4/9006 (55W), and now Halogen Infrared Reflecting (HIR) bulbs. I can say that these HIR bulbs are visibly brighter then anything else I have tried before. Read the linked thread for some comparison:
http://www.scoobymods.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3122
Again I want to reiterate that I have nothing against those using HID kits, I'm just saying I'm not comfortable using them myself, so each to their own.

Anybody know whether a LPG conversion is suitable on a supercharged IS?

Anyone else experienced this? Tried to change my front fog bulb today, removed the 2 bolts but couldn't get the bloody fog lamp unit out the front bumper for love nor money.
Is there a catch or something to hold it in?
Thanks if anyone can help.
Having just removed my fog lamps to swap with some smoked ones, I know what you are going through.
Bascially the user manual is lying (to me anyway), it's not just taking the 2 screws out and voila it pops out, you have to remove part of the inner arches behind the fog lamp, then push it out at an angle if you want to take it out.
If you just want to change the bulbs, you can manage it by doing it from the gap you have from removing part of the inner arch, just twist the bulb from the socket (if you have HB4/9006) then remove and exchange.

should have asked on my.is as they will happily swap thier yellow ones for a set of our clear ones and u just pay postage.
I would have if I can find a set, while US chrome ones are readily easy to come by, later spec OEM smoked/SportDesign US fog lamps seem to be very hard to come by, and again I will run into a H3/HB4 bulb compatibility problem.
I could have tried tinting the fog lamps myself, but with my skills and luck I probably end up screwing them up big time
I guess I can sell my chrome ones on eBay, they seem to be going for a good price.
-
Personally think they look a bit too dark, how come you didn't just get the UK smoked fogs which match the headlights perfectly?
My headlamps are JDM black ones, slightly different from UK smoked ones. The other problem is the later spec UK fog lamps use H3 bulbs, mine are HB4/9006.
I wonder if you can get a H3 HID kit which can plug into a HB4 socket?
how much did the cost you?..mine have corroded at the back of the fogs and need a new set so am looking to buy a set/cheers
I got the pair for USD$330, which seems to be the going rate for a set on eBay.

New toy I got for my IS in the US, smoked fog lamps with yellow lens, plus yellow HID (3000k) kit to make it even more yellow.
Before:
After:
Here they are on their own:
I think they match better with my black headlamps, what you think?
Check my registry for the latest mods, link in the sig.

I use these Halogen Infrared Reflecting bulbs, and they are brighter then any normal bulbs I have tried.
Alternatively the easy route go for some Halford Super Brillaince 9005 for £20 a pair, then use this 9006 to 9005 guide for use with your dipped beam.
http://www.bmwe34.net/E34main/Upgrade/More_light.htm
If you want to make it even easier, get a pair of 9006 to 9005 harnesses from Innovative Wiring, £15 (under products/headlight parts).

I should be coming to this one, and I think Snowman might be too.
LexusIS200Sam guess we can convoy down from MK?
-
Well here is a little self promotion here, amber eyebrows wired to indicators. Check my registry for more details (the link is in the sig). Thanks to Snowman for wiring it up for me.
-
Quick check before I go out and buy stuffs, is it last gen or current gen Corsa spacers I need?
-
Does anyone know if pedals off a LHD IS300 fit on RHD IS200? My focus is on the throttle pedal and foot rest.
-
Especially the one of me looking like a member of the kwik-fit team

Nice to meet you all, despite the weather it was a good day out. Blimey, I'm the only Lexus there without a spoiler!

Good luck with your next job!
Side question, will we be able to purchase TRD/TTE bodykits at the prices you posted from any Lexus dealers on another thread? If not will need to place an order before you go!
