  1. Thanks for the reply guys. The service book says 100k for cambelt, not 60k! I know a lot of other manufacturers do it earlier, but thats usually on "lesser" cars so to speak, where belts are much much cheaper!! Rory - was 415 at Prestige? Does anyone know of a good lexus specialist in the S/SE of England of S/SE London? So far I have full Lexus Service history and would like to keep that if possible, but not to the extent of ruining my wallet!!
  2. I am still trying to recover whilst writing this, but have had a quick call round for a price for a 50k service (car has done 46k) for my 2001 X-reg IS200SE. Apparently although the cambelt is 100k miles, its OR 6yrs!!! Which puts me slap bang on it! So, my question is, has anyone had one go and do I really need to get it done after just 46k? Chris S - rang Hanley and my gosh, you guys are cheapest by far for a normal 50k service (~£90 with GOLD). Service is shut now, so was wondering how much you guys would charge for a 6yr/50k service? I am not getting spark plugs done as they should be 60k and I cannot see age wearing them earlier - plus I can do them no probs. I need a sit down and a drink now - was not expecting cambelt this early - just had a baby - there goes his colleage money!!
  3. In a recent service I was told the both rear shocks were seeping slightly. They said would be ok, and just to keep an eye on it. Is there a guide on here on how to replace the rear shocks? I have had a look in the Knowledge section but not seen a bean! Ta muchly.
  4. you can have the level they turn on at, adjusted I think? Didn't realise they never turned themselves off though until you turned car off. Bit naff really!! But then I never use auto feature on mine, so guess thats why I haven't noticed it!
  5. I had this one my IS a few years ago. Kept taking it back to Lexus, where they bled it a few times, but didn't seem to fix it. Then a better mechanic came out and said it wasn't right, bled it again and now its been fine most times. Very occasionally it will sink, but nowhere near as much. I would love to know why this happens, as I too thought master cylinder or something.
  6. Was thinking on the way home last night - I thought the IS has squeal shims or something along those lines, so that when the pad wore below a certain level, you got an annoying squeal?? Maybe I am talking out me aristotle or something though!!??
  7. I thought that the toms one was flatted out on the top of the ball? Mat - did yours fit without modification?
  8. How about TRD Duracon gearknob or TOMS gearknob?
  9. coooel. So, has anyone got either of these, which do you prefer if so? I like the fact the TRD one is all round on the top, but it looks a smaller ball - so to speak! And, do they both fit without modification, as I have read somewhere on here, that Matt had to trim his down?? Zee - any chance of a group buy on either??
  10. do you have a picky or a link? The TRD one is thr TRD Duracon White Gearknob. Apparently they come with a 5 or 6 speed sticker for top, but doubt reverse will be correct?? Maybe.
  11. I would attach a piccy, but dunno how to!! Will it fit IS200, as it says it won't fit an MR2! What size tread is on the IS200 Shift lever?
  12. I think I have found what I mean, scroll down in this link to the white / black ones. Does anyone know the TRD part number and any other suppliers? Also, do they do one with 6 speed markings or just plain?? Fensport Do we Goldies get a discount here??
  13. Help guys. I remember about a year or more ago, that I think TRD made a round knob type gear lever in WHITE for the IS200/Altezza. Does anyone remember this, have been looking everywhere here and on web but no luck so far! I seem to remember that maybe it was only stamped up with 5 gears rather than 6 - though maybe this was the leather TRD one?? Matt C - I think you will know what I am on about! Ta muchly
  14. I had and to some extent still have the same spongy feeling on my 2001 X-reg. When tried a newer courtesy car it was better. I think the IS must be really tempremental to blead properly or something, cos the dealer bled it a few times, and only on last it got better. Even then it wasn't excellent. Just learned to live with it. Maybe new pads and discs may help (and new oil!) Regarding wobble, if its not the discs warped, then it could be wheel bearings?? Just a thought, jack it up and wobble wheel with hand. If it moves then this could be problem. Especially if wobbles when breaking from speed or under corner load??
  15. Apply it to the BACK of the bads. The squeek is caused by the pad moving on the piston when you brake.
  16. lexus brighton is doing a similar "sale" of management cars!?
  17. Not sure what you mean by below, lexus reading is a lexus dealer, so if they charged you 150, who wanted 350-400? Bought all three items from Lexus Reading for 75 Quid, today and the Labour was 150 quid from the same garage. Lexus were charging 350 - 400 damn rip off!!
  18. arse, thought she said she was a "lady"! Must have been her old man taking over. Anyway, good on either of em!!
  19. According to Dunlop, the non-lexus version of the SP9000 Sports are NOT recommended for use on the IS200 as it upsets the handling. The differences between the Lexus and non Lexus versions are.... 1. Lexus version is made in Japan, non is made in Germany 2. Lexus version has Lexus on the tyre sticker - check before fitting! 3. Lexus version has stiffer tyre walls 4. Lexus version has different tyre compound - the tread wear rating is AA rather than A. Micheldever tyres in Hampshire do them for about £90-£100 as do Headley Tyres near Newbury. Make sure the tyre dealer is 100% sure they are the Lexus ones, as most don't know the difference and may even have to order them. If they are havingn difficulty getting them, call Dunlop support and mention it, as they say they will supply dealers quickly if they know they have customers waiting. Otherwise large dealers order up loads of stock to be stuck on shelves!! Also, the new Dunlops, SP Sport Maxx or whatever, about 4 months ago, Dunlop were still recommending using the SP9000 Sports for the the Lexus. Shame, cos the new ones are supposed to be really good. I find the Dunlops to be excellent for tyre wear and pretty good too for grip, though the bridgestones are quieter. Hope this helps you all, feel free someone to add Dunlop tyre details to Knowledge base if you want.
  20. Don't diss her man, 100% credit for having a go, especially as you haven't done it before! And can I say (without wanting to sound sexist), good on ya for havig a go, more women should get stuck in with mechanical things, would save us blokes a lot of hassle!! :P
  21. How come next service is 60k then if car is only 5 yrs old and covered 45k? I had similar problem as 10k and 20k service done very close to each other as car was sold by first owner etc etc. Personally I would get a 50k service done. Just go by the years. I doubled up on the 30k service for mine.
  22. Well, I am pleased, total cost after discount was £285. Not bad really. Got a new keyfob too and a glossy piccy of the new IS series. £147 for a 40k!!! crikey, thats pretty much just the labour!
  23. Well I am off to pick my car up soon, will let you know the damage. I am expecting it to be approx £340 before discount.
  24. My car is currently in at Reading for its 4 yr or 40K service. I was just wondering what prices people have paid in the past for this service? Ta
