  1. Hi Does anyone know the programming sequence for a 2001 LS430 to program a new smart key, I have searched on here but can only find it for the LS400. How many times do I have to flash the lights, stand on my head and whistle dixie Thanks Pete :)
  2. Certainly not my cup of tea but it looks to have been done quite well..... It never ceases to amaze me that people try to sell cars on ebay with a dodgy picture taken in the dark on a cheap camera phone, how can anyone really see the car, especially a modified one... And one more thing while I'm on here moaning, how many times do you see ..... aircon JUST needs regassing....... I have never met an aircon that JUST needed regassing.... why did the gas escape..... I know sometimes it needs topping up but no gas is usually because of a hole in the system somewhere.... if it does just need regassing why don't people do it BEFORE they sell the car???? Rant over Have a good one Pete
  3. Hi There is a Lexus LS430 on ebay at the moment item number 120152392656 It states in the advert "The October 2007 receipt for £1100 detailing the replacement of the two oxygen sensors and a valve in the manifold naturally comes with the history file of the car." This is a 2000 model with 64000 miles... So this is obviously a common problem.... hope you can find a relpacement cheaper somewhere else.... If you do please let me know Has got me worried as mine has done 61000 now.... Good Luck Pete
  4. Hi I have just had my wheels exchanged by Lexus, they were starting to bubble a little around the bolt holes, Lexus have exchanged them for an official refurbished set with a 12mth warantee.... Price Spoke to a chap who stated wheels were £60 each +VAT + a little bit for fitting.... ordered alloys..... had them fitted and was presented with a bill for just under £500!!!!! Asked for a recount and the bill came down to £340 all in fitted with VAT so £85 a wheel with 12 mth Lexus warantee..... I have since noticed a guy on ebay from Blackpool who will do an exchange set for £215 all in for 4, no warantee but a fair bit cheeper Had the wheels fitted then spent a day claying the car and polishing it and boy does it look new... anyway rained the next morning before I had a chance to photograph it.... Ah well The other problem of course is now I have to be very careful when parking by the curb!!!! Pete
  5. Hi I just bought the latest DVD disc for my 2001 LS430, it doesn't make the system work any better, just has more roads on it and a slightly different start up page I think the update website only sells DVD's as it doesn't list any early cars at all.... It also says under FAQ I am experiencing errors in the routes that my navigation system provides. Route guidance is dictated by the System and its software, and therefore should be addressed with your System Manufacturer or Car Dealership. I'd offer you a copy of mine to see if it worked but I don't think the DVD would work in your system... Interestingly the original 2001 disc had 3.8gb of maps on it, this one I have just bought has 7.8gb on a duel layer DVD I haven't noticed any differences to the actual useage of the satnav system... Pete
  6. Hi If you look closely in the pictures on ebay the "after" photo is of a real wood/leather wheel, you can see a shine on the edge of the leather where it turns in where the wood is, I would imagine these are very poor and will look cr*p when fitted.... just my 2p worth... Pete
  7. Wow.... never been lucky enough to even sit in a 460.... I will continue to sit in my 430 and look smug then!!!! Pete
  8. Hi I can solve your problem at a stroke.... drive over to me and you can swap your poorly equipped LS460 for my LS430, it’s got a mute button!!!!!! Pete
  9. Hi, I think the amplifier is in the boot, under the two side pieces either side of the spare wheel well (sat nav dvd is on the drivers side at the very back) if you look at this ebay listing there is a picture of it out of the car ( its the bright silver bit on the left in the first picture) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...650951&rd=1 Looking in my owners book there are three fuse boxes under the bonnet, one in each front kick panel and one in the boot!!!! will take a week to check them all!!! I'd start with the one in the boot.... If you can't find anything then try Lexus, I had mine checked over by them when I bought it and they did a full check for £50 + vat. They said if they find anything wrong they would knock the £50 off the bill if I got them to fix it... didn't seem too bad to me... Good luck Pete
  10. Hi all I worked for a LPGA approved garage for about 18mths fitting single point and multi point on all sorts of cars from a 3 cylinder Matiz to a 12 cylinder Jag and just about everything in between.... I do not know everything about lpg and others on here may know a lot more, from my limited experience and a general interest I have found out / noted the following, I'm putting it on here to help others make the decision...... lpg or not???? A few Facts about LPG It has a lower calorific value than petrol but an octane rating of about 110 It burns hotter than petrol It produces no acid in the ignition process It will give you better emissions then petrol (if set up correctly) An Lpg tank is virtually impossible to damage enough to cause an explosion, a controlled release and ignition into a flamethrower yes, but the pressure in the tank is too great to allow oxygen back inside to create an explosion Now there are two basic types of installation, Single point Multi point or injection Both systems introduce Lpg in its gas state into the engine instead of petrol (Ford tried with a liquid LPG injection system but it didn't work very well) The basic or single point system involves a tank with a pipe to a vaporiser which turns the liquid Lpg into gas, this is then fed to a mixer which lets the gas into the engine, with this the amount of lpg let into the engine is controlled by a stepper motor in a closed loop system, this takes a reading from the lambda sensor and then adjusts the mixture accordingly, this is the type most commonly used (there is a system for early cars with no Lambda but they are few and far between now) Multi point injection system, uses a tank and pipe to a vaporiser which then feeds gas to an injector for each cylinder, this is controlled by a separate ECU that "steals" info from the cars ECU, adjusts the gas injector opening time accordingly (you need the injector open for longer to get more gas in than petrol because of the reduction in calorific value). The system also monitors the Lambdas and adjusts the mixture with them as well. A properly set up injection system will have no reduction in power over petrol but will use approx 15-20% more Lpg than petrol, the emissions will be better with less C02 being released, indeed you could even remove the cats and still pass the latest emission tests (but this is not allowed). Most Injection systems start on petrol then swap over to Lpg after a short time, this is usually done at a certain temperature Contrary to popular myth this has nothing to do with a car not working on lpg when cold, this stems from early systems with poor vaporisers that could not vaporise the lpg unless they were very hot, I ran a Range Rover V8 for several years that ONLY used LPG, it started on LPG at -10c with no problems.... The reason the systems start on petrol is to give the petrol system something to do, the early days saw cars run for 1000's of miles just on lpg, then the driver ran out and switched over to petrol only to find nothing happened as the petrol system had stayed dormant for so long it was all seized up!!!! Now most injection systems that are SET UP PROPERLY will not have much of a detrimental effect on engines Most single point systems will damage an engine unless they are set up right. I saw lots of single point systems on cars where they had been set very rich to get the system to run because of badly matched parts, the vaporiser has to be big enough to cope with the demands of the engine.... ie the bigger the engine, the bigger the vaporiser that is needed, the mixer is very critical to each engine as well. It is easy to get a car to run on lpg, the trick is to get it to run right. Most cheap single point systems will work but they will flood lpg into the engine and cause a rich mixture, this creates excess emissions and will damage the engine. If you have a single point system get the emissions checked, this will give a good indication of the quality of system/instalation. Interestingly a friend who has an MOT garage always checks emissions on duel fuel cars on petrol because "they all run rich on LPG don't they" Lpg, being gas, is a dry mixture and does very little lubrication, I would always have a Flash Lube system fitted as it can't do any harm (just check it gives 5 drops per minute at tick over with a warm engine) Lpg does not like running with platinum spark plugs, it can give misfires, although I did run a Voyager 3.3 with platinum plugs for 15000 miles with no problems.... The engine oil does not get very dirty when running on LPG as there are minimal acids and other nasties from the combustion process, this does not mean you can change the oil less, it is still getting bashed to bits by the engine and wears out just as quick, it just stays looking better..... So go for it if you do loads of miles but make sure you get a well matched, well installed system especially if it is single point... Oh and before anyone asks no I haven't got it on my LS430 I know what’s involved in fitting it and I know how many original wires are cut and spliced and I don't want to reduce the reliability of my car..... most engine running faults on cars with LPG are down to ingress of water or wires chaffing from the original install and I bought a Lexus because I wanted reliability as well as a nice car.... Pete
  11. After I bought mine I had it checked by Lexus, they checked out everything including fault codes, it all checked out ok and I have had no lights on since, so no you should not have the light on, get Lexus to check it, I used the dealer in Hull, they did a full check for £55 all in, the only problem they found with mine was that the air suspension only raised 14mm instead of 20mm when High ride height selected but this is apparently OK...... Pete
  12. Hi There are several people breaking cars on ebay, do an advanced search and select items from the UK, one of them will probably send you one Pete
  13. Just got back from a 650mile trip in it and it gets better by the mile... people seem to ignore you in it rather than everybody trying to race you or carve you up when you drive a Merc.... very "Q" car...ish The sat-nav girl does sound nicer than Jane on a Tomtom but she didn’t know about the M6 toll road so I will have to dig her out from behind the dash and give her a new map to read from!!!!!! My daughter is only just 15 so behave yourselves....... It was hard to find a LS430 and since I have had it and driven over 1500miles now I have only seen another 2, a gold one in Hull where I am and a silver one in Marlow, Bucks so these must be pretty exclusive not like Merc's and BM's (also known as "ar*ehole cars" --- everyone has one!!!!) So is there a meet near me so I can see some others??? Can anyone recommend a good bluetooth car kit for the Lexus... mine doesn't have the Lexus phone fitted but I want a fully integrated one... mute radio etc... And lastly is it true that Lexus stands for Luxury EXport to the US Pete
  14. Hi all Have just bought a 2001 LS430 in Canterbury Blue (very dark) with 57000 miles, full Lexus history, has the premium package. Has four new tyres, new discs and pads at the front, new rear pads and just had the full Lexus 60000 miles service with brake fluid and coolent etc. Beautifull condition, small scuff to front bumper corner but the rest of the car especially the interior is as new. (just got £200 quote to respray front bumper) Negotiated the price down from £13995 to £12000 cash and think I got a resonable deal. Always had S class Merc's before and got sick of paying out money all the time because the buttons stopped working.... Anyway you lot have been keeping this car very quiet from the rest of us.... its just superb, better than an S class and I'm not just saying that because I've bought one. It really is, the ride is smoother and quieter, the performance is about the same as my old S500 but it is crisper and more willing, the engine note is georgous, the steering is nicer, the handling about the same, good for such a big car, the refinement and "woftability" is far better..... and the final BIG plus point.... every single button works, it just does what it says on the tin. It is very comfortable and has just about as much room as my old LWB Merc, I'm 6'5" and my daughter who is 6'1" can sit behind me with room to spare. The aircon seats are superb, the twin lumbars brilliant and they are the most comfortable seat I have sat in. The navigation system is excellent for a built in system... better than Merc by a long way The bit I like best though is the swivelling center vents.... it just looks soooooo cooooool Anyway enough waffling on here... I'm off to drive it somewhere.... Pete
  15. Hi, Could be anything, the 430 I've just bought had a reciept for an oxygen sensor replacement because of a check engine light, the only thing it has needed bar servicing in 58000 miles. Price for the oxygen sensor and replacment at Lexus was about £250-£300 difficult to say exactly as it was done with a service. I think the Lexus system will be far better than the Merc system when yours says check engine I would expect a fault, the Merc will throw up faulty codes all day long just for the hell of it.... I know, I have owned both.... got fed up with paying for lights to be switched out so have now got the Lexus .... in my opinion better than an S class in every respect but not quite as pretty, but I can't see the front from the drivers seat so who cares at least I know things will work when I press a button..... Lexus do not charge much for a diagnostic, somewhere between £50-£100 and they check just about everything... Good luck, let us know what it was....
