  1. Dipstick, I have just worked out that the torque of 120 newton meters on the offside lower front wheel nut is in fact the exact amount of longitudinal force required to break the woopy camflange which you will find on the king lead which connects to the phopho valve, to recitify this problem you have to drive backwards, heading east arond the world to unwind the transitional forces applied to the said cylindrical retaining device.... I hope this is not too technical for you... And by the way talking about Lin's ear and fire place articles is just showing off..... Pete LOL
  2. He has no plans to change it, its just not worth selling, the price it would get would nowhere near get anything better... if you see what I mean... Pete
  3. Here are a couple more pics for you, if you look closely you can see the repair needed on a rear light, he then did the other to match.... anyway it has just had a new set fitted, got complete front and rear off ebay for £20!!! and they were in really good nick, he sanded then down with 2500 grit paper and polished them. He is in the process of making it look even better, he has sanded the paint on the offside of the car with 2500 grit then polished it back to a deep mirror shine, it really does look better than new. The dash is fine, which is amazing for a car this age, the temp display has just been replaced and the only thing that doesn't work as Lesux intended is the nearside mirror doesn't move electrically.... not bad for a 17 year old car!!! Pete
  4. Yeah and the anoying thing is if you close your eyes whilst driving in it (as a passenger!!!) it is hard to tell the difference between it and my LS430 and it cost 12 times less than mine did..... still at least my doors self close!!?!?!??! Pete
  5. My brother has been up for a few days with his 1991 LS400 its now done 106,000 miles so we tried the water test, that was boringly good so we tried balancing a £2 coin on the engine and then reving it to 3000rpm, he treats it like a baby so didn't want to rev it any higher.... anyway did the coin fall over???? Watch here to find out This is the car Pete
  6. Yes I have. I copied the new one I bought and was going to use the copy and keep the expensive original just in case, anyway it seemed to work fine for some time then it came up with a "check disc" message now and again on start up, it cleared and worked fine by just restarting the engine but I got fed up and used the original. Its a duel layer DVD and it was the first time I'd tried to copy one so it may have been me.... Pete
  7. OOOOh that sounds good. thanks I will go and do some gooooogling..... Pete
  8. Dipstick, I had a look at that one a while ago but it was only warning about fixed gatso's truvello's etc and not warning about mobile sites, does it now warn you of them? Pete
  9. Totally agree with Neal, it sounds complicated but its not its just a bit fiddly.... Unfortunatly as Neal says speed cameras cannot be added to this system, I have fitted a Parrot CK3400 LS GPS Bluetooth Handsfree Car Kit, it is a voice activated bluetooth car kit with built in GPS, I use a Nokia N73 with Tomtom 6 satnav with spoken speed camera alerts, basically it connects to the phone at start up, then switch the phone to Tomtom and the speed camera warnings are called out to you through the cars speakers, it is an excellent piece of kit. Details here http://www.fonejuice.co.uk/products/produc...CFQxcQgodaCIzfA You may get one cheaper on ebay.... Pete
  10. Standard camera phone on left and the latest camera phone with vibrate function on the right Pete
  11. Hi and welcome to the forum.... its good here Sat nav is under the boot floor, you have a center piece that hides the spare wheel and two smaller side pieces, it is under the drivers side one, the panel is held in with two clips, take the panel out and you will see a silver box with a black front, it is bolted in position with two 10mm bolts, remove spanner from toolkit on the other side of the boot and remove the bolts. DO NOT DROP THEM THEY WILL RATTLE FOREVER. you can then, just about, lift the front edge of the dvd up enough to press the eject button (with ignition on) and the disc will pop out Go to this web site for a new one, they are very quick at delivering and it will be much cheaper than Lexus, you need the numbers off the disc you have to get the right one. http://www.lexus-mapupdates.eu/ The new disc is a massive improvement over the old one Good Luck Pete
  12. I know what you mean, but I think its too early in its life to have it without it pi**ing you off, the ones I've tried, and I have to say they were all Mercedes, were a bit too sensitive to traffic in other lanes unless you were going on a very straight piece of road, once a car nearly stood on its nose as there was a much slower car in the inside lane when we were going round a gentle right hand curve, so before you jump in, just have a good try of them to make sure its what you think it is.... Pete
  13. My mate has just bought one against my advice I might add.... anyway 3 years old 38000 miles FMBSH.... So he's had it two weeks, lives in Hull, been working in Liverpool.... Getting high 30's to the gallon..... but...... Air con not working properly, Throttle sticks when applying a little bit then all of a sudden frees up and you shoot forward..... Passenger electric seat has stopped working Soft close doors don't work, he didn't think it had them but the boot does so I guess the doors should.... So its booked in for them to be fixed, and he gets a petrol C class as a courtesy car..... So the moral is if you like driving a Lexus..... drive one If you fancy a Merc then get ready to try out every other car in the line up because you will spend a lot of time in a courtesy car Now switch your head on FULLY and stick with what you know LOL Pete
  14. Hi The filters have nothing to do with the seat heating, they are only for the cooling, the heating works through electric heating elements, like an electric blanket Pete
  15. Wish I hadn't read that I want one now...... So would anyone like to buy a 2001 LS430 66000 miles FSH........etc..........etc Only joking I'll have to slum it for a few years yet..... Dipstick can I sit next to your Mrs for a ride (careful) when you get your new one??? Pete
  16. Wow that looks like the dogs danglies.... How kind of passman 53 to offer his old bits.... more pics please when they have been fitted Does anyone have a tom's supercharger for my LS430 lying in their garage unwanted?????? Pete
  17. You won't be disapointed, its very good and excellent bedtime reading on these cold nights.... now concentrate as we will be asking questions later........ Pete
  18. Typical salesman..... will say anything to make the sale..... write to the Dealer Principal explaining what has happened and how upset you are, tell him you feel cheated and that your pleasant experience with Lexus has been tarnished, explain your loyalty to the marque, don't ask for anything just end the letter expressing your interest in his view on the matter Good Luck Pete
  19. I've read that the premium pack was standard from 2004, its certainly fell off the option list. Dipstick is right with the differences, the later ones also came with more wood inside, different front and rear lights, different wheels, then bigger wheels (plus poorer ride comfort) the six speed box was supposed to have a smoother change but I don't see how you can get any smoother than mine, you can only tell its changed gear because the revs drop.... The later one is also slightly quicker to 60mph... I love the idea of adaptive cruise but I've yet to see an early one advertised that has it, must have been very expensive... If you can afford to, then trade up, I can't at the moment... but the longer you leave it the worse it gets and it does seem to make sence if you are going to spend big bucks soon.... Good luck Pete
  20. Hi Sorry just saw this thread after talking about these on my thread, You can reach them through the little draw at the front of the seat, they just pull out, it was a bit hard to get them back in but if you raise the seat as high as it will go you can get to them from underneath.... anyway mine have been in nearly 7 years now and were very clean so you should be alright. Pete
  21. Mine did this just last week, and the car knows when it's dirty. For what it's worth, the official price from the dealer is about £60. However, if you ask for just the filter element (not the tray) then it's under £30. The ones on the web that are sold as third party parts are also that kind of money, so you might as well have the genuine part from Toyota. Fitting it was so easy even I could do it, and took me about five minutes, and is all covered in the handbook. The old filter was disgustingly dirty. The car now is noticeably quicker to warm up/cool down too. I'll have a look at mine and see, it did come on about a minute after passing a very smokey old diesel van, the climate switched to recirculate and it came on after that.... There are also filters in both front seats, take out the little tray thats at the front of the seats and its behind there, I looked at these a while ago and both of mine were very clean, there is also another one in the boot for the rear air con.... blimey nearly as many filters as a Veyron has radiators!!! Pete
  22. I think you will find that three years servicing is not the same as three free services First year car doesn't need servicing so the first free one is at the start of year two, then at the start of year three, then you start paying but it will be three years from the point of sale that you have to pay. Have seen this offered alot with lots of different makes.... like most things you have to reads the small print... Pete
  23. Hi all Driving down the road today and I hear "BONG" "BONG" and on looking at the dash, where it displays "System Check" on start up it was displaying "Replace A/C Filter" The message only stayed up for about 10secs then disapeared, never to be seen again, even when I restarted the car it didn't show. Anyway had to pass Lexus Hull on the way home so I stopped in to see them, spoke to their always efficient parts man who said it was nothing to worry about and that they have a habit of doing it, he recons its a bit premature and won't need one now, apparently they replace it on one of the services. He cleared it by turning the car on, then pressing and holding down the climate "Off" button untill the dash displayed "A/C Filter reset" took about 5-10secs. So I was very pleased he didn't just sell me a new filter, he quite easily could of. If you get the same message you know what to do.... Pete
  24. That’s outrageous Steve, hope you can buy some new ones from a different supplier, can you seal them up with silicon to prevent further problems, you could stick the three good ones on eBay, someone may need to replace one due to an accident or something.... Pete
  25. Thanks for that Pete. I'll have another go at the dash. Why are we selling? - We've got 2 sons at uni to support with their cars too. It was a toss up between keeping the Lexus or the Volvo V70. We love the Lexus; it's a dream to drive, and beautifully smooth and quiet. There can't be a more luxurious car. But, at the end of the day the Volvo is more of a work horse and practical for our purposes. What about.... Keep the Lexus, sell the volvo and buy a trailer, get student rail cards for the kids and sell their cars...!!?!?!???!? But seriously I know what you mean, you can always buy another later.... Good Luck Pete
