  1. I got a flyer in the post offering me 10% off Lexus Motor insurance, 15 months for the price of 12 RAC cover, 10% discount on accessories, Lexus travel pack (fire extinguisher, reflective jacket, first aid kit, warning triangle and bulb kit) for £65.68 - not cheap really and finally 15 months extended warranty for the price of 12. My local Lexus centre knew nothing about the warranty offer and apparantly you must book this centrally, not via dealer network. I am going to take up this offer even though it means cancelling the extended warranty I just brought three weeks ago. They tell me as I took it out less than 30 days ago there will be no cancellation charge, so for 25% extra free I'd be mad not to change it.
  2. You've answered your own question! The reason people bitch about the mpg on the diesel is because many, like me, get more like 30-32 mpg on trips like the one you describe. If you were one of the unlucky ones with a car like that (and it is pot luck it seems, the performance seems to vary so much between individual examples) I'm sure you would be very much less than happy.
  3. All the best - thanks for all your contributions and advice, your posts have always been very sensible and helpful!
  4. That's quite a good price if it has MM as well, is it manual or auto? I'd be really impressed if it's an SE-L auto............SE-L has front and rear parking sensors, xenon headlamps, rear sunblind, illuminated sill plates, memory seats and probably a few other little bits on top :) It is auto. Having read your post, I suspect it is simply an SE (boo!) as I have a picture looking in through the passenger door, and I can see manual seat controls on the passenger seat. Unless of course the electric seats apply only to the drivers side? Also need to find out whether the trim is broken in the passenger footwell as it looks as though something is coming away... If it is an SE-L both driver and front passenger seats have memory. You will see 4 little buttons in line just above the electric window switch on each of the front doors. If these are not there, it is SE, not SE-L. Enjoy the new car!
  5. I've got a 220d SE-L with MM. The toys are great (you must have multimedia!) and the car is very comfortable and civilised. It does turn heads! However, my particular car has very poor MPG, much less than advertised and Lexus seem resigned to it and (most annoyingly) tell me it is "normal", and my diesel is not so much fun to drive if you want to throw it around a bit from time to time - the gearbox is poor and it does not make it a pleasure shifting in and out of gears. You sometimes have to really force the gearstick in, so akin to driving an old lorry gearbox! This may be just particular to my car though, of couse you will see what yours is like on a test drive. If you are getting a new one, all in all I would recommend it despite my issues so long as you make sure the dealer fixes any niggles prompty when in warranty. Standards of dealer service do seem to vary quite a bit from dealer to dealer! However, if I could choose again I'd probably go for the 250 SE-L petrol auto.
  6. I agree - my 220d will struggle to do 32mpg even floating down the motorway with cruise control on at 76-70, whether in 5th or 6th gear. Lexus are trying to tell me this is "normal" - I hope they read these posts. Although I am currently waiting to see if Lexus will change the injectors for me to try and improve the consumption it irritates me no end that they still refuse to acknowledge that my mpg is a problem. They are tryin g their best to wash their hands of it so as you say, I only want what it said on the tin (35.8 urban, 52.3 extra urban, 44.8 combined). Why do they insist my 32 mpg driving like miss Daisy is normal? No more Lexus for me, petrol or diesel - EVER. The staff's attitude at my dealer over this stinks.
  7. I understand it is a panel or flap that would normally prevent bad air (i.e. smoky air in a smoky envoirenment) getting in, so it is something I can live with. I'm told the flap or panel is fixed to the unit thus a new one would be required.
  8. Yes, good point - I have just called Lexus to get a two year extended warranty (though no doubt too late to help with this!)
  9. Just had a service today and they tell me the "Blower re-circulation function" is broken, whatever that is. I can't say I've noticed anything untoward with anything blowey! Anyway, they say that to fix this would mean replacing the whole unit (not sure what unit...) and will cost £1266. Ouch! Has anyone else had this issue, and if so - does it really matter if this function is broken, or can it b e fixed more cheaply, i.e. without having to replace the whole unit? Thanks
  10. http://store.apple.com/uk/product/TQ398ZM/...;mco=MjI0MDY0OA Above is link to the Apple online store and a good in-car charger, the Griffin Power Jolt SE. Cost £19.98 excl. postage. The lead comes out of the side of the charger and so fits easily in the power adapter and allows you to close the armrest. You might be able to buy the same charger in the High Street, i.e. o2 phone shops.
  11. Isn't the last number on the first page, just a "last-number redial" button Yes, that's the answer! Many thanks
  12. Lexus in Ipswich have quoted £320 as they say that on the 50K service they need to change the brake fluid. I've just read elsewhere on this forum that Lexus Wolverhampton have charged just £221 for a 50k service - am I getting ripped off...?
  13. I cannot delete the last speed dial entry on my first Speed Dial page (Speed dial 1). When I go to delete a speed dial and go to the screen dial 1 page, this number (the last one out of the six on the page) is "greyed out". I even hit "delete all" and wiped ALL my speed dials - but this one was still there! When I go to call the speed dials, this number appears as normal, not greyed out and can be dialled as normal, it just greys out when I'm deleting. I've searched the handbook and can find no reference/explaination for this. Can anyone shed any light?
  14. Worked on my 57 plate is250 se-l mm Can you (or anyone) tell me exactly what you are supposed to do to get rid of the seat belt buzzer? I tried the above but nothing happened (no message on the odometere and still "bings") - it seems from these posts that it has worked for some, so maybe the rest of us are doing something wrong? Thanks.
  15. Another daft question ... are you pushing the clutch in hard enough? I've had the symptons you describe a couple of times, and it's just because I've not been pressing hard enough. It's not a daft question because you do have to push the clutch right in as you say - and I do so this is not the reason...
  16. when you push it, does the green light come on (on the button).. so when you depress the clutch the green light is on. Don't want to be stupid but is it that the parking brake is off ? Yes, parking break is always on, and yes - green light illuminates on the start button... BTW - great pic illestjt, your two cars parked together look pretty cool!!
  17. Sometimes when I push the starter button (with clutch depressed of course) it will not start. Steering column comes down into place but no ignition, so, try and push button again and steering column goes back up and it all switches off (worst case scenario) Other times, a few presses of the button will work. Yet other times still car will start first time with just one button push, i.e. steering column comes down and ignition fires up immediately! Sometimes I keep the button pressed for ages and nothing happens, other times it will start after a few seconds - I'm confused! There is no real pattern to it, everytime I try and start it up it seems to behave differently. Is there a sure fire way to get the engine to start up first time every time? Thanks for any advice/answers
  18. This proves my point - it is acheivable so it should be fixable!
  19. the published figures are a government guideline and not part of any contract. Thanks for the reply, but how did they arrive at this figure? The lab tests must have been done using one of the Lexus models I assume, who supplies the test models from which the figures are obtained? Lexus I assume. If it is clear from real life that the cars achieve nowhere near those figures and Lexus know this surely they should not publish them in their literature. The other point is that some individual cars (same model) do have much better fuel consumption so it seems that it is more down to pot luck than an intinsic characteristic of the car. It also appears that fuel consumption can be improved if the service people persevere and try different things to fix it - eventually it can be improved, according to some members who post here. So there must be a way and Lexus, knowing the problem exists and knowing what the published MPG figures are should fix it. No matter who made the figures (government tests or whatever) if Lexus since know that they are wildly innaccurate then they should not use them in their blurb and get the model re-tested I would think. The point is they are knowingly publishing false data no matter where it comes from, surely?
  20. Mine does 33 MPG on ALL roads (!) and that is when I'm driving sensibly. I've asked on another post (sorry about the duplication) but has anyone tried to pursue Lexus (even with legal action under Sale of Goods Act or Trading Standards legislation) becuase the actuasl mpg is nowhere near the figures they advertise in their bumff - and saying the literature's figures is only "a guideline" would not wash! I'm really angry as my Lexus dealer is just washing his hands of the problem and I need to take it further. Any experiences or success stories would be greatly appreciated.
  21. Lexus advertise the 220d (not the sport) as 35.8 mpg urban, 52.3 Extra urban and 44.8 combined. I manage just 33, and that is on all types of trips, long and short and driving sensibly. Lexus said the 5th injector recall and ecu remap would help but I had that done last month and it is WORSE now! When I complained they told me fuel consumption goes down in cold weather because of the extra fuel used to start in the cold, etc but I think this is rubbish. Even after an hours driving (well warmed up by then) I only get 33 mpg. In a word they are washing their hands of the issue. I know this is a known problem with the 220d but I am furious that Lexus can publish those figures (even as a "guideline") yet my car's consumption is so far off the mark. My question is - has anyone challenged Lexus until they fix the problem and have any of you considered legal action against Lexus for this blatant breach of trading standards? Secondly, my warranty expired 31 Dec 2008 but I told them of the problem before this date and also they did the injector etc before - can I still claim any fix under the warranty as I brought it to their attention before the expiry or will they try and stitch me up on that too??
  22. Thanks to you both - maybe I should read the manual a bit more carefully! Yes, if the switch is in the centre position the mirrors will not tilt.
