  1. Hi Steve hope your keeping well? Try Lordy on 07879378000 he breaks mk4s so might be able to help. All The Best Maurice
  2. Hi would just like to add my name to SVT services of Edinburgh . Great service and gave discount when mentioning Lexus owners club ! Was a tricky fix as had intermittent no sound to speakers , so wasn't convinced it was the amplifier - anyhow bit the bullet and sent it off to Chris at SVT , he is not a great fan of the Mark levinson amp , but was diligent in replicating the fault conditions and eventually found the problem. Now re installed in my face lift LS430 and sound is back to normality . So if you have sound problems and suspect the AMP I recommend SVT services .
  3. Hi I tried a few on mine a while back without joy, then took it to a friend who works on top end cars he had a Bosch Reader can't remember which model reader it was but it wouldn't be a cheap one knowing him. Also Mine was a Mk4 VVTi , some of the cheaper diagnostic readers may work on the earlier models but not on the MK4.
  4. Hi Steve A few years ago I listed on ebay a wooden steering wheel from a DHP Ls400 I was breaking, started the bidding at £50 [ which I would have been happy with ] finally sold for £160, crazy I know !!!! To be honest I prefer the leather steering wheel myself.
  5. Hi Steve Yes indeed. Helping a relative out I have located the rear light [ fingers crossed ] So its just the bumper now All The Best
  6. Hi Looking For LS430 Mk1 2002 Model Rear Bumper Rear passenger Side Indicator/lights Cluster Colour : silver / gold If you know of anyone breaking the early Ls430 in this colour please let me know Thanks in Advance Maurice 07957 530340
  7. Yes they are transferable, both front and rears I believe the spring part numbers differ but the springs look identical Maurice
  8. Hi Check Engine Light covers a multitude of faults, take the car to a garage with a good OBD2 diagnostic reader plugs in under the steering wheel [ lower down ]. Once you have the diagnostic reader plugged in a fault code will show, which will translate the problem - Normally Oxygen sensors. Good Luck Maurice
  9. Hi Maurice nice to hear from you are you still breaking ls 400s Mark Hi Mark will be breaking my own Mk4 shortly, Hate to admit that I have bought a Range Rover and the Lexus is just not getting used. All the Best Maurice
  10. If its the neutral start switch you are looking for it is under the car and is bolted to the side of the gearbox where the gear selector linkage bar is attached. if you require access to the selector solenoids again undo the linkage bar underneath the car [ nut and bolt ] and from inside the car 4 bolts [as far as I can remember ] then remove all attached loom wires and pull the selector mechanism up and out, You should now be able to work on a bench - just be careful if stripping this unit down as there are a few springs inside. Maurice
  11. Hi Steve As you know Ls400's are in my veins now...... All The Best Maurice
  12. Hi I replaced my Mk4 belt about a year ago, used Blue Print parts from my local motor factors [ most independant garages will do the same ] I also changed the idlers and the weighted belt tensioner and water pump, cost with discount was about £220 and all parts were good quality. I did the replacement myself and it was quite straight forward probably took about 5 - 6 hours in total. The one bit of advice I would recommend is to not to use a paper gasket for the water pump [ this was supplied with the blue print kit ]. As after all this mine had a slight coolant leak - so bought a metal gasket from Lexus about £5 and of course had to take everything off and do the job again. A good Independant should be able to do the cambelt but if you are competent mechanically you can do it yourself especially if you check all the on line help forums, the Tutorial on Lexls is for the earlier engine but there is another Tutorial out there with a step by step guide with pictures for the VVti engine as well. Maurice
  13. Hi Nick I would say this is the 4 speed transmission from a Mk3 95 - 97 as this sellers other parts listed are all " 97 Ls400 " but are all definitely from a mk3 Alan is correct with his info re yellow label and the vvti engine has the same gearbox from 97 - 2000 Always clarify with your seller that the parts are removed from a Built in Sat Nav Model with a VVTi engine Maurice
  14. Hi Cat B is for breaking only , Cat C and D can be put back on the road I think the Ls430 shown is Flood damaged and water has been sucked into the engine Benfur
  15. I think the problem comes when you try to go the other way, by fitting older wheels to a newer car. To be honest, I think the only certain method is to try fitting them to the car before buying. Hi The Mk3 and 4 have exactly the same calipers / Hubs and discs so the Mk3 10 hole 16" alloy wheel fits the Mk4 as well The Mk1 has 15" wheels and the Mk2 16", the 16" look similar to the mk3 16" 10 hole but they are different and do not clear the bigger calipers of the Mk3 and 4 I also noticed the seller who posted the 16" alloy wheels on ebay and said they wouldn't fit their Mk4 but they look like the 16" 10 hole Mk3s to me which do fit the Mk4 Maurice
  16. Hi Steve Poacher turned Gamekeeper ...... Cant find one in this colour to break - so am counting on someone who might have seen one in a breakers yard Thanks for your help
  17. WANTED DRIVERS DOOR IN CODE 941 AMETHYST [ PINK/SILVER ] BARE DOOR or can provide a replacement door with glass etc [ in another colour ] if you dont wish to strip the door down CONTACT ME IF YOU HAVE SEEN ANYONE BREAKING THIS COLOUR LS400 - unique to the MK4 VVti Sat nav 98 - 2000 model Thanks in Advance 07957 530340
  18. Hi Colin In this instance the diagnostic reader clearly stated Bank 1 Sensor 1 Oxygen sensor, so it was assumed that this was the problem But I agree not to take the diagnostic code as the answer to your problem - as in my case it led to to the engine temperature sensor Maurice
  19. Hi Thought I would share my experience : CEL Check Engine Light / Check VSC / VSC off came on about a month ago After quite a few attempts to find someone with a decent OBDII code reader , a friend of mine had a very expensive Bosch reader The code shown was P0135 Oxygen Sensor Bank 1 Sensor 1 As I understood this was the front sensor scewed into the exhaust manifold on the passenger side [ UK ] Luckily I have a good supply of used parts - from my breaking days. So proceeded to swap this one over Still wasnt running quite right , low idle and as if it was slightly missing anyhow took it back for another reading and the code was still there and as the fault was still there the code could not be erased. My friend told me it must be the sensor on the other side. So removed the other one - quite tricky as it is alongside the steering column shaft and pipework, with my fingers crossed started her up and seemed a little better but still not quite right. After a few days CEL etc came back on. A little bit annoyed now as we all love these super smooth engines running perfectly, researched the web forums particularly the american ones and decided it might be the Engine temperature sensor, there are 2 in close proximity just behind the thermostat housing [ same for 1uzfe and VVti ] the smaller sensor sends a reading to the instrument cluster and the other is read by the ecu to determine if the engine is cold or warm and thus determining air and fuel to compensate for these running conditions. Rang Lexus for the Temperature sensor £48 + VAT, you can buy this part from the motor factors for about £20 but I had read that some aftermarket sensors had presented high Idle and some other running issues. So dug around in my spares treasure trove and found one still in its aluminium water channel pipe, as I will still not 100% sure this was my problem I thought I might as well swap this one over. With the expansion cap off and the engine cool I unscrewed the old sensor [ 19mm extended barrel socket ] and a couple of rags stuffed around the sensor the coolant spurted out - so quickly got the replacement sensor in . Ran the engine and bled the system as per normal procedure. The Good news is the engine runs fine idle is as it should be and no other lumpy issues, I had also read that replacing this sensor can produce better mpg - only time will tell but whilst I had the above problems its was using much more fuel than normal. Main reason for posting this is that although an OBDII reader will throw up a code sometimes the stated fault code is a symptom and not the cause Maurice
  20. No Problem, Its what this Forum is all about, we help each other out Maurice
  21. Hi Mike He was quite open about the exhaust - I would have to be Deaf not to have noticed it !!!! and he told me about the caliper , The other bits mentioned are quite common on a car this age, but I have to admit the state of the exhaust is by far the worst I have seen especially for such low miles ? Maurice
  22. Hi Have just viewed this car for another member Main problems are exhaust Y pipe to cats are shot to pieces - No flanges left to weld on either, Therefore new cats and a Y pipe required NSF Brake Caliper Leaking Requires 1 tyre and another before too long All wheels have rim kerbing + some tyre wall kerb damage Drivers footwell carpet has a tear Boot is leaking Some marks to body work and some scratches to rear passenger door Bonnet struts weak one of the boot lid cluster lights is chipped Couldn't test drive and obviously didnt jack up to see state of the front and rear suspension etc - so probably has a few other faults to rectify The seller informs me " it owes me a Grand " so is not realistic with his price given the above and no MOT Benfur
  23. Hi John I live in Bexleyheath just up the road from Welling pm the sellers details to me and I will check it out Maurice
