  1. yes, there are jumper terminals in the spider tuning box that i have fitted to my 220. Are they to alter how the car performs? Have you tried each setting? Very tempted to get one of these for my 220D, been looking at them for a while now. On some pullaway`s below 1600 rpm the car is just flat.....not great when pulling out! the manufacturer says that the jumper pins be moved only if an increase in power is not evident with the factory setting.as said before, most of the power increase is through the midrange.

  3. there are a few threads on this problem.basically the top end of the engine has to be rebuilt and your dealer should know about it.
  4. hotwheels,my mechanic told me that he has seen many lease cars coming back for servicing having covered in excess of 250k miles on the clock without any significant issues.my own car has 72k miles and has been 100% reliable.
  5. matus, good luck,i forgot to mention that the exhaust gas pipe can be bent upwards enough to allow the egr to be lifted away from the manifold and so the battery can be left in position.
  6. bigmick,i run my car on shell standard diesel and millers dps4.i also have a spider tuning device which has been fault free and a good enhancement to the 220.i have covered 70k miles now without any breakdown and i use a lexus trained indy for my servicing so costs are very low.i personally think that a good italian tuning every month keeps the carbon levels down.
  7. It's been 5k miles since I last cleaned the EGR valve, my car was running fine and I was just curious to see how and if the carbon was building up. This picture shows EGR Valve complete with electric motor view from below This picture shows EGR Valve complete with electric motor view from above This picture shows EGR Valve in it's two separate parts This picture shows EGR Valve flood with carb cleaner to soak for 5 minutes This picture shows inlet manifold before cleaning This picture shows inlet manifold after cleaning This picture shows EGR Valve after cleaning viewed from below This picture shows EGR Valve after cleaning viewed from above This picture shows EGR Valve being re fitted to the inlet manifold This picture shows pipe about to be reconnected to EGR Valve This picture shows pipe about to be reconnected to EGR Valve This picture shows EGR Valve being secured to inlet manifold This picture shows EGR Valve being secured to inlet manifold This picture shows pipe being secure to EGR This picture shows electrical connection to EGR motor hope the above is useful
  8. parthiban,auto express recorded 35.1mpg from a bmw 118d after a long term test of some 7 months and having covered 9,300 miles.issue no 1,120 23-29 june page 66. i reckon that's a country mile short of bmw's claim's.
  9. 1.is your car low urban mileage as modern diesels with dpf's do not like lot's of urban driving.follow steps 2&3 and you should be fine. 2.use the v power diesel every third tank or a fuel additive such as millers dps4. 3.if your engine becomes more audible than usual, take it for a twenty minute drive in third gear at 70mph and will help with carbon build up. have found site that does egr valve replacenment kits iv emailed them to see if they do a lexus version has they only list vw audi bmw etc should get a reply soon im thinking about replacing the egr valve myself as these seem to be problematic might be worth a look if your thinking of keeping the car or it may help anyone else out there having same problems and are looking for an alternative ..theres a good insight into how these valves work to if you not familular with them might be useful ,will let you know if i get an email and they do lexus or email them yourself the address is as follows http://www.egrvalve.co.uk/ hope this helps.. cleaning of the egr valve will suffice, replacement is not required.

  11. problem fixed,i took the lock off the boot lid and then opened up the lock itself, there were no broken parts so i applied more grease and reassembled.btw,i was quoted £174+vat for a new lock.
  12. i am having a problem with the boot closing, the release mechanism from the cabin and the manual release button on the boot lid work fine but when i close the lid it will not latch.if i press the manual release button prior to closing it will then close. has anyboby had this problem?
  13. my bridgestone re050 rear tyres are now down to the twi markers and 36K miles on them and are in need of replacement.i am staying with the same brand because of the excellent mileage/value.after a good search around the best i could find was from tyre express, fully fitted at home for £137.27each.
  14. baz,you can't go wrong really just squeeze the foam in a bit at a time.
  15. a week on after cleaning my egr valve. the engine runs quieter engine pulls smoothly from 1200rpm economy up by 15% so i would say that it is well worth doing
  16. Hi dgman, Will you let us know if you also notice a performance/mpg review?..........my MPG is going down the toilet at the mo' Cheers i have noticed more response in the lower rev band and also mpg improvement.i will give more detail after a week.my usage has changed of recent times with the majority of my mileage being urban.remember to detach the electric motor assembly before using the carb cleaner.
  17. yes tracy, mine were done under warranty at around 50k but you will have to pay for the cost of the pads.i would give parts a call first to find out the cost of the pads so that you know what you are likely to be paying.
  18. today i removed and cleaned the egr valve on my 220d.it was all straight forward as the guide i posted at the beginning of this thread.access to the two bolts securing the pipe to the engine block are hindered by the battery.i took the battery out to gain access but otherwise followed the guide.the whole job took about 45 mins and i used a full can of stp carb cleaner and would advise you have a second can at the ready just in case. tools=12 socket, wrench with extension,5mm allen key for removal of the electric motor part of the egr assembly.
  19. berrywood, the set up is the same no worries go for it.
  20. None of the above. The simple fact is, you get a better class of vandal in the South Cotswold's! Just found out I have Sade as a near neighbour, as well as Liz Hurley and Keith Allen. Guess they're fed up of getting their cars keyed sade will only make you feel depressed, you should be ok with keith allen if you are into illegal substances, liz hurley, now thats a plus point. or how about covering liz hurley with snow foam and watch it drip off and just drown the other two.lol
