  1. Well I have just finished fitting the new ABS sensor. At first I was disappointed that the dash warning lights and the message were still visible but as soon as I took the car up the road for a test the warnings disappeared. I think the system reset when the car got up to about 10MPH. All I have to do now is get the old girl through the MOT and I will be smiling for another year. Thanks for all your replies. Steve.
  2. Thanks for that Graham, I now have the sensor, I just have to find a spare hour or two to fit it. Steve.
  3. Thanks for the heads up about the radio code, I had forgotten about that. I guess it is just a case of wait and see. Steve.
  4. Hello Guys, I have to replace one of the rear ABS sensors on my LS. Will I have to reset the system in any way after I have fitted a new one or will the dashboard warning lights and message just disappear on their own? Many thanks in advance. Steve.
  5. I am pleased it worked for you. When I found the scrap of paper in my car when I bought it I had no idea how useful it would be. Steve.
  6. I would love to be able to buy a car for spares but I just don't have the room (or money) for one. I think I may have sourced the sensor I am looking for from a breaker in London, it is supposed to be delivered on Monday. I have my fingers crossed it is the right part and it works OK. I will keep you all posted. Steve.
  7. Hello Guys, thanks for your replies. LS400lpg, I have had a quote of just under £200 from a dealer which I think is outrageous for what it is but I may end up having to just pay up, thanks for your offer of local breakers assistance. Mikeyv, no problem. I hope you find your wing and tow bar soon. Steve2006, I think you could be right. Mine got trashed while trying to remove it from the hub. I found one more chap who has one available that I am going to take a punt on but I am not too hopeful that it will work, I will keep you posted. Once again, thanks for your input. Steve.
  8. Hello Guys, is any one on here breaking a MK IV? I have checked Ebay but there only seems to be one on there and the part I need isn't available from that one. I am looking for the nearside rear ABS sensor. Many thanks. Steve.
  9. I now have a point of contact. Many thanks. Steve.
  10. Hello guys, I am trying to get in touch with Benfur, I know he doesn't frequent the forums but I wondered if anyone had any other way I can contact him. You can PM me with any details if you are not happy making them public. Many thanks. Steve.
  11. I bought a new car about five months ago. It took about five weeks for the V5 to come through to me. If you go onto the DVLA website there is a section about how long it will likely take for you to receive the new V5, I think they state four to six weeks. Steve.
  12. I am Twinpot on the Swift Owners Forum. The picture in the avatar is at 3 Holes near Wisbech. Coincidently, the truck ended up in that ditch by the hand of the guy that owns the Pug on the trailer in the last picture by SpottedLaurel. Here is my daily driver.
  13. I am from near Sutton Bridge. I think the numbers have dwindled at the track days over the years, possibly because if you run a car for both days it can become very expensive. The track surface at Marham is very rough due to the fact it is a working runway and, as a consequence, quite destructive on tyres. My buddy that runs the 205 that is on the trailer in the picture can easily get through 12 tyres in a weekend. I only took the Lex round for a bit of a giggle but I was very surprised on how well it handled at high speed. If you happen to see me about anywhere come over for a chat, it would be nice to meet another Lexophile. Steve.
  14. Hello Nigel. The last car is mine, that was taken at Marham last year. There is a video of me driving round the track somewhere on this site. I think the heading is something like LS400 On The Track. Whereabouts in Norfolk are you? Steve.
  15. Hi Tom, I have a modified exhaust on my LS. It is a full cat-back system with a crossover made of stainless steel of the same bore as the original system. I only have two small silencers at the rear of the pipes and they are straight through. The noise in the cabin at 50 MPH is not at all bad but 60 MPH seems to be right on the point where the exhaust note starts to drone a bit. 70 MPH sounds nice again, it just seems to be the 2000 RPM area that is the most intrusive sound. It feels as though the car is quicker and more responsive, fuel economy improved very slightly and engine braking was reduced considerably (that may be why the fuel economy improved). I fully appreciate that loud exhausts are not for everyone and that it doesn't really go with the image of the car but it does make me smile when people hear my car , turn round to see what is making the burble and then look confused because all they can see is an LS400 and it couldn't possibly coming from such a classy car. You can hear my car here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DWmVvuCryLI In the video I wasn't accelerating very hard as the engine was stone cold, when it is warmed up the car sounds a little more subdued. The exhuast was built by LongLife in Peterborough and it cost £650, I can't fault their work. It took almost three days for them to do the job as they had trouble with the manifold studs, I think most of them snapped off. The two big silencers have been removed as the pipes were still too quiet for me. I hope this helps you make your decision. Steve.
  16. Hello Guys. My wife and I have just got back from visiting some friends in Scotland. We left the house on Monday morning and got home on Wednesday evening after 1200 miles of trouble free motoring in the LS. According to the trip computer we were driving for just over 24 hours in those 3 days and yet we never felt uncomfortable or stressed. The Cruise Control made the trip effortless and the hills and mountains caused no problems, it was as if they weren't there. The car used £220 worth of fuel which I thought was pretty good considering that I was not trying to save fuel, I just drove to the speed limits and overtook things that got in the way. The LS is just an awesome beast Steve
  17. Hello guys, I had the nearside bearing replaced on my MK IV a few weeks ago. From Lexus the bearing was almost £300 but I got a genuine Toyota part from cheaptoyotaparts.co.uk for £129 inc VAT. The inner and outer oil seals from Lexus added up to well over £100 but from cheaptoyotaparts they cost £72 inc VAT (again, genuine parts), I also got a hub nut which cost £3.20. I dealt with Chris Billimore and he was extremely helpful in discussing options on how to save me money when buying parts from him. I would recommend you give his website a look if you need parts for your Lexus, you will have to email him through the site as it doesn't list many Lexus parts but he can get them all. I hope this helps. Steve.
  18. Hello Hugh, I have a 2000 LS and the boot bulb just pulls straight out. It is a bit tight but I try and grab it as close to the base as I can and then pinch it out if that makes sense. Good luck. Steve
  19. Hello Guys. After using the old LS today I parked it on the drive and tried to lock it using the remote key fob. I have done this thousands of times before with no issue but today the car wouldn't lock. Upon further inspection, the little red light on the key fob was not coming on when I pressed the lock button. When I pressed the boot release or unlock buttons the red light came on and the boot unlocked and the doors unlocked (I had locked the car by using the key in the door). It would appear that the lock button is broken. I assume there is a rubber pad under the button which contains or operates a micro switch. I tried taking the key apart but the part with the 3 buttons on it seems to be a sealed unit. Has anyone tried to prise this part of the key apart and replaced the rubber pad and been successful or am I heading for a new key? Many thanks. Steve. P.S. My wife's key works fine with the car.
  20. Hello Guys, The hazard switch in my car doesn't light up or flash. I didn't know the switch was supposed to flash until I read this thread. I have had my LS for about 5 years now and it has never failed an MOT yet, it has been tested at a few different stations and no one has mentioned it. Steve
  21. Hello guys. I am not sure whether the exhaust has increased the BHP, the car feels quicker than it did with the stock pipes but that might just be my imagination and a bit of wishful thinking. It still has the cats, the new pipes start just after them and are the same diameter as the stock ones were. I have noticed there is considerably less engine braking now, one of the roads I use on a daily basis has a 50 MPH limit going to a 40 MPH limit. There is a change in the road surface in the 50 MPH limit and if I was doing spot on 50 MPH with the cruise control on and I turned the CC off when I hit the change in road surface the car would slow down to bang on 40 MPH just as I hit the speed limit sign with the stock pipes. Now when I do it the car only slows down to 46 MPH. I am pretty sure my car is a DHP spec model, I have parked next to other LS400s and mine does sit a bit lower and the suspension is much firmer than my MK2 was. Steve
  22. Hi chaps, in answer to your questions, I was using normal road tyres (Falkens) and after 4 laps of hard driving they didn't really show that much damage, just a bit of rolling on the outside edge of the fronts. I just left the gearbox in D, I have learnt since I would have been better putting it in 4 and only shifting up to D for the long straight, that way I would have been quicker out of the corners. The first lap I did I had the VSC on just to see how the car behaved and to give myself a bit of confidence, however, it did really kill the power on the apex of the bends as the inside wheel tried to spin so I turned it off and just used the Force instead. Steve.
  23. Hi Mark, the brakes just suffered with huge fade which is understandable due to the speeds I was at and how hard I was using them. Once they had cooled down they were fine. The LS is far...FAR louder than the S2000 due to the fact I only have two tiny silencers in the exhaust system. Steve
