  1. Thanks guys, so no advantage changing tyre width then? Sick of having to push even at supermarket car park when there’s little snow/slush. I thought winter tyres on real wheels would help at least on such times. Have couple of spare 17 alloys so 16 is not an option. Never used any winter tyres on earlier cars, so don’t know what to expect. What do you think of used tyres? ( seen a few 5mm ones on bay, tempting to try a set before buying new)
  2. Thinking of getting pair of winter tyres for my IS200 rear wheels. Wonder wide tyres or narrow tyres good for winter. (Like 245/40/17 better than 205/50/17 or vice versa?) which range (width/height would fit? ) thanks for any info
  3. Thanks MacRS200, I think I got it correctly now. So I will have to re-use old Anti-squeal springs and shims etc? Had a discussion with the dealer regarding this Lithium stuff and apparently this grease comes with the repair kit. :) Ordered one and will post what’s included when I get the kit.
  4. Hope this mintex set is not fake, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LEXUS-IS200-MINTEX-F...Q2em118Q2el1247 (Item no: 260121808882) has anyone bought this set? What do you get in mitex box? Just pads or all shims etc.? ah.... that’s great if I can use brake fluid for seals then. But I’m not sure whether to use copper slip for slides, I remember reading somewhere that copper slip is not good for rubber boot on slider etc. I thought copper slip only for shims etc. is that right? I’ve got this Carlube copper aniti-seize thing, hope that’s ok.
  5. Thanks for the link, yes £180 is certainly less than that, But I want to keep the cost to a minimum as some other long postponed things needs to be done soon(cam belt etc) After reading many recommendations here I think mintex discs and pads worth a try for about half the cost of OEM. For the caliper, I’m thinking of getting the repair kit as it includes both sides and slide pin boots etc. Lubricant is the problem. Has anyone ever used or know some alternative to this Lithium soap base grease?
  6. £75 for a new one is a bargain i think, where did you get it from? For the repair kit lexus wants £72. at the moment I'm going for that as the kit includes both sides and sliding pin rubber etc. this lithium grease is my problem, Does anyone know what else can be used for Lithium soap base grease????
  7. Hi guys, my front near side caliper had a stuck piston, (top one) I pushed back the piston several times and now it seems ok. But Pads were worn unevenly (approx 1mm left, other side about 7-8mm :o) and the disc seems worn compared to the other side. So I decided to replace discs and pads and use a caliper repair kit to repair the caliper. (as on this thread- Click here Which grease to use on new piston seals ??? . Online lexus manual says “Lithium soap base glycol grease” any help would be appreciated very much. Also, dealer quoted £152 for discs and 64 for pads, So I’m thinking of mintex pads and discs on e bay. I saw many here are happy with mintex pads and discs. What do you get in the box? Does it come with shims etc or just pads?
  8. It's unlikely anyone read these old threads, I'm going to repair my front caliper too. I'm just wondering which grease to use on new seals? Online manual says “Lithium soap base glycol grease” :duh: seems this type not available freely. can any one advice?
  9. Only just came across this, soooo sorry to read that and may she rest in peace….....
  10. wozza, could you post the link to those pics if possible plz? would be great to compare with mine
  11. Here are some pics of my old cam belt (52K miles) : Thanks mate, that looks healthy. :) I've got some pics of mine, I'm too lazy to figure out how to post pics on here, will try soon.
  12. Steviewevie, would you be able to post some photos of your 9 year old belt ? I'm hoping to do mine soon (7 years 35k) I checked the belt visually and it looks pretty good though.
  13. Similar thing happened to me couple of months ago. I replaced the battery and all fine now. first i bought a halford calcium battery (£96) but it was too large. bonnet lid touched top of the battery and terminals when closed. the original battery cover was too small to fit on too. so I returned it and got a lexus genuine battery from the dealer(£67 inc vat.)
  14. mine was the same until I changed the key battery :)
  15. Superb mate did you use any polish or somethin on air box/plastics? been worried about my rusted bolts too. from where did you find the ss bolts?
  16. Hello n welcome :winky: can't wait to see the photos
  17. Did you notice the rapidly blinking red security light? What I do to deactivate the radar sensor is: close all doors except drivers door, take the key out and press lock-unlock-lock-unlock-lock-unlock. Then the red security light on the dash starting to blink very rapidly (if not you haven’t pressed the lock/unlock sequence correctly and have to start over) then shut the door and lock with remote. If you press twice you can activate the double lock too. This works every time on mine. Welcome to the Loc too. :winky:
  18. Thanks guys mine is well overdue then??? :shutit:
  19. Hi guys, how often automatic transmission fluid need to be changed? On Warranty & care booklet it is marked with “I” (Inspection) on both intermediate and full services. But no replacement age/mileage. My is200se is 51 plate 32K on the clock with fsh, hasn’t done before.
  20. I found LOC when I Google to find out about Lexus Alloy refurb.
  21. My Gs300 was doing similar things. After much investigation, found corroded siren was to blame. Lexus removed siren for £50+vat and now have my sanity back. If your lights flash as well (mine didn't) you may need to disable the whole system. Hope this helps. Thanks razagilani, my signal lights flash with the siren! did you replace or just removed the siren unit? what you mean by 'disable the whole system' ?? What I do now is switch off/on door lock switch 3 times to disable the radar to avoid the false alarm.
  22. I have a similar radar problem in my is200se, I tried air vents closed as above, didn't work on mine. :shutit: as in this post
  23. I tied with all air vents closed and set to circulate, it didn't work on mine. :shutit: was ok for one night and alarm went again in the morning with sunrise. I’m beginning to think that there is something to do with temperature change inside the car. Any ideas?
  24. I'm trying air vents closed since morning( with radar on) so far ok.. will post the outcome glad to mention just joined Gold :D
  25. Thanks Steviewevie, I’ll try air vents trick tomorrow. I am thinking of Gold membership as my 60k service coming up. I need to do the cam belt as well although car’s done only 30k. but its over 6 years (51- late 2001). Hopefully I can save something with Gold? How many days it takes to get the membership card after signing up?
