  1. Hello knowledgeable people! I always leave the headlights on auto, this evening they came on in the dark as usual. I arrived home turned the car off, opened the door and locked the car. Half an hour later I looked out of the window to see that the cars lights were still on. A few days earlier I noticed that the door card red light would flicker when the drivers door was opened. I am thinking that this could be a simple case of the door switch needing some sort of clean and lubrication. Has anyone here had this issue with their GS or other car? If it was just the door switch though, ie the car thinks that the door is still closed, wouldn't the lights turn off after 30 seconds anyway? I'm hoping not a big bill.
  2. I think that this affects most Lexus models. I leave the mirror switch in the centre to disable the dipping mirrors. I don't miss it, they actually didn't aid much and it solves this issue. I think that the big fix is to replace the mirrors, if you can really be bothered. Surely the switch in the middle is all about the mirrors folding in or not, not whether they tilt down when reversing? Mike It's the switch which controls the left or right mirror adjustment. If the switch is in the left or right adjust position the mirrors will, should, dip. If the switch is centred then the dipping mirrors will not dip, this is part of the dipping design.

  4. Well said guys, The trouble is even tyre sellers are still confused about winter tyres and some give bad advice.
  5. Why only the front two tyres? Highly dangerous. All four tyres or nothing, do a search on here for reasons or you-tube or Google.
  6. I agree, middle lane drivers are a cause of most frustrations. If the legal limit is increased to 80mph does that mean with the police camera calibration and the owners speedo under read, this gives the police +10% +2mph before speeding is an offence, does that mean I can travel at 90mph without too much of a concern for tickets? I don't usually go beyond 80 -85 as I am concerned about fuel, just wondering though.
  7. Hello. I have an HTC and a GS300 and it's never been a problem to bulk export contacts. Two reasons for this. First I read the owners manual and second I did a quick Google search and downloaded a blutooth ap which sent the bulk data to my car, it takes seconds. I don't know why you are having nightmares about the technology as the technology is excellent but like most things like this it takes a little bit of effort from the owner. This is about the 10th topic on 'how to send bulk contacts to my car'. On the other hand you've made an excellent choice of vehicle, the GS is excellent!
  8. This sounds a bit over the top, why would he do this and how do you know for sure that this happened. The tech guy probably used all the oil you gave him and binned the 0.3ltr that was left over, I would. Lexus Hull were dodgy too, mmm, I think there's a little paranoia going on here.
  9. About £50. I have 245 tyres, nice and fat for the tyres to get traction!
  10. I read that the return for bonds is around 1.5% but then you could always win a big prize. If I put 3K into a 3% account then, after tax, I would draw around £80 a year. It must be worth a gamble... :P £80, that's rubbish. Not too long ago average saving accounts were paying 6% and upwards.
  11. I'm putting my Sottozeros (excellent tyre) back on this Friday, which is odd as it's going to be around 25C! It's a bit early to do so but the temps will drop off when we get into October and it's predicted to be a cold one with snow predicted by the end of or beginning of November!
  12. With savings accounts and ISAs offering low returns I'm thinking of buying some premium bonds. Most of the press seem to think that they offer little, in the way of returns, but given all other options I think that they could be worth a punt. Does anyone here have any bonds and would you recommend that I buy some. I would buy about £3k worth to start.
  13. This was a problem on the early GS300's. I had mine done in 2009 at no cost to me, ECU, 2 x O2 sensors and the 'I don't know why' oil change.
  14. Are you saying that winter tyres make no difference? I doubt he's tried them.
  15. Weights, snow socks, boots, shovels, grit, take it easy, forget all of that & invest in winter tyres and don't worry about winter. Winter tyre link..........
  16. So anyone from here going this weekend? Apparently Lexus Sheffield have speciality teas and coffees and have offers on new and used cars. They are also taking orders for the new GS, two orders already taken. I will be going along to sample a speciality tea.
  17. Well, this is the oddest thread and it's turning odder. This is getting silly. Thank you for your email- I am sorry to have upset you but I feel I have to continue to do so. Your advice is wrong. The trouble with academia (PHD)is that sometimes you lose all practical perception. FYI I am a senior design engineer at Siemens, my previous roll was at Rolls Royce Nuclear (defence). This however is immaterial as the answer to the original question remains. Leaving your car in D will not adversely effect longevity of the clutch or gearbox. Perhaps when you finish your studies you can qualify this. Can we end this topic now..........
  18. DUDE how TOTALLY BADASS AMERICAN are you??? DUDE. its not wrong it is simplified. A simple question was asked, so an answer was supplied with a simplified justification. This is not simplified, this is wrong, incorrect, rubbish: "don't keep it in Drive that is causing the clutch/equivalent(torque converter for the pedantic) to constantly slip. Put it in neutral and use the handbrake just like a manual." And this piece of advice shows a real lack of knowledge: "Lexus will say what sounds easier and you will also need a clutch sooner." I'm not american and I am not going to argue with you. I'm sorry if I upset you but I dislike ill informed and incorrect advice. The 'simple' answer you gave is incorrect. Indeed it was a simple question, answered by many correctly, D is fine, no issues with clutch or gearbox damage and Leuxs' advice is sound advice.
  19. shjh01 Lexus will say what sounds easier and you will also need a clutch sooner. How often does the clutch/transmission fluid need changed? DUDE, stop with the WRONG advice, nothing you say is correct. You will not need a clutch sooner, or will it harm the gearbox leaving it in D.
  20. Hi, That's no problem! That is a very good price for the tyres too!
  21. So many arguments with this topic and I don't wan't to carry it on, try Google. But: The previous poster is talking absolute TOSH, burning clutches? Please don't give bad advice. If you are in a traffic jam and not moving anywhere then P is good. If you wan't to knock it into N at lights then that's fine too. The easy way is to leave the car in D with foot on brake. Really, that is all there is too it, no clutch burns or anything horrid. All personal preference, how long you have stopped for etc. Just enjoy your car and take Lexus's advice!
  22. Keep it in D, use the parking brake instead of the brake peddle if you want to.
  23. I'm putting my winter tyres back on in a few weeks. No need to change cars put on a set of winter tyres and your car will handle better than a 4x4. Sounds too good to be true, watch this, My LEXUS GS!, my car on sheet ice with winters, I got stuck nowhere last year!!! There are still people who consider all other options before going for the obvious. :shutit: I thought you had to take winter tyres off and on according to the weather (that is just use them in snow!!) Are you saying that I can use them just as normal everyday tyres??. If thats the case I will certainly look at getting some - as you say the obvious answer but I'm a bit short on technical knowledge so just thought shelling out another £10,000 would be the easiset option - doh!!!!!!!!!! I watched your video by the way - what happened to the 12 INCHES of snow in your part of the world?? Many Thanks for the post - its given me something to think about Hi, Seriously, fitting winter tyres will transform your car. I run my tyres from October until March. They are rated W which is up to 168mph and can be used all year if you do only a few miles. Winter tyres are not only for snow but for all winter conditions. They are excellent in the wet displacing huge mounts of water. I was driving on a slushy M1 earlier this year. The outside lane was empty as it was too slushy for normal tyres. I drove through it and had excellent traction, I was throwing up huge amounts of water behind me though! The compound of the winter tyre is softer than summer tyres. Summer tyres start to go hard below 7 deg C and this makes them pretty useless, winter tyres remain soft and spread out. Winter tyres also have lots of cross cuts in them called sips. The sips draw in the snow and this help with traction. There are lots of rear wheel cars in Germany, BMW, Mercedes and the folk over there change to winter tyres as it's a legal requirement. These people don't usually get stuck, well maybe if its a few feet thick. Try it, buy them now before the rush and you will be amazed and a lot safer this winter.
  24. Anyone? Hi you don't have to send you contacts individually, send the bulk. What phone do you have? I downloaded an Ap called Bluetooth File Transfer, worked great. Read your manual for connecting your car to a Bluetooth device.Boring I know but it's what I did and you will then be able to send over all contacts.
