  1. Hi everyone, i haven’t been on here for sometime as i haven’t had my IS200 for sometime now. I just wanted to ask some like minded car people what they think about my car dilemma. The other day at work i found out that i won’t be getting a company car in the new year, the reasons are fair so i am not holding a grugde about it even though this one of the reasons i took the job. But the demand for the on site work has not grown as they had planned so i have no reason to have my company car, but i get use of the pool car for the days that i need it. My daily commute is just over 30 miles a day on small A roads. I currently have a petrol BMW 320i, so the it drinking the petrol. So in the new year i plan to buy a diesel. With having own diesel i could use it for work when required and get paid per the mile etc. I spoke to one of the sales guys in my place, as this is what he does and he runs it like his business and makes a bit of money using his own car. So if the on site work did grow in the near future it is possible i could earn a bit more cash. But here is the issue, i don’t have the free cash at hand to buy the sort of newer diesel. So my choice is to buy a older diesel with high mileage with the cash i have. Something like a Volvo S60 D5 or Honda Accord or a older VW passat all with over 100k + on the clock? Most like would need replacing 3-5 years later. Or do i get a newer car say a 3 year old and get the car on finance what i can afford to do. Something like Mazda6 or the newer accord or the new style passat. With around 50-70K on the clock? I have even considered an IS220D, but i remember a lot people on here, when i use to be a regular visitor to the site, complaining that the MPG is not that good on them? I have sometime to make up my mind, but was just wondering what others think about it and what they would do. Share on facebookShare on twitterShare on google_plusone_shareMore Sharing Services
  2. Hi all its been a while sense iv let the lexus scene and got to say the website is looking good. I am thinking of coming back to the good old lexus, Just cant decide if to get another is200 or go for GS300 or even altezza? Iv gotten bored o my 3 series touring and dont need the extra boot space as my daughter is now walking ever were as reuses to use her buggie. Anyway been looking online and i found my IS200 or sale now as a non-runner, i know the old girl had some issue to the mechanic sold it to and he claimed he had seen the issues before etc. So you might see pop up from time to time.
  3. Does it seem to be after alot of rain? Are your headlights coming on? I had a simular issue a few years ago. Water was getting in via the window screen, running along the cables to the junction box in the drivers foot well.
  4. I would love a Scooby but the insurance on them is a joke! Plus they as said they are a look at me car. Mazda 6 I hadn't really look at them, I would rather stay jap, I might have to have a look.
  5. Hi all, i recently sold my IS200 during the week, so its time to say goodbye. Thanks for all your help etc, during my 3 years of almost problem free motoring during my ownership. Anyway i do have one last question for you all what do i buy next??? got a budget of 4K and needs to be 4 or 5 door and iv been promising myself a turbo car for years now. After talking to a friend of mine who works for those who quote you happy.... (my arse) about insurance on turbo charged cars and all the ones i would normaly go for are so god dam expensive to insure because they are desirable. My friend told to look at volvo or saab's as the insurance on them is that much cheaper. I'v always said i would buy jap or german but iam starting to consider swed, an saab 9-3 aero or volvo S60 t5 or S60R what are around the same price to insure as the is200, the s60r is a little more but wont break the bank. Anyone on here had any experiences with eirther of these? Iv spoken to a friend of mine who has an aero and said the only problem is that he lost alot of money now that saab have gone under. He brought his around 4 years ago for about 15K and is only valued around 3K now. Another friend of mine who has v70 didnt have a bad word about volvo either.
  6. Hi all, as some of you may know been having some issues :( with IS200 for sometime now going to have 1 last go at sorting it after getting some good tips. I may go see mr T see what they say it could be as well i might even bite the bullet and get a quote from them for it . But if it doesn't work going to break the car i think, as long as my folks don't mind using their garage to store it all LOL as i dont have the space in my flat. So check this space if you after some bits for your car.
  7. hi mate, iam having problems with miss firing, please have a read of this http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=77160 any help would be great cheers.
  8. Had a go with the crank sensor but no joy, iam really fed up with this now and just want it gone. But I found Someone trying to sell there's on ebay with a similar problem and it got no higher than £700.00. Do i put it on ebay or not?
  9. Cheers mate, ill give those ago during the week and see if they help.
  10. Hi all, i have not been on here for a while, the new updated site looks good by the way. Anyway iam after a bit of advice and would like to here what others think or if they have an answer to my car problem. For the last 4 months i have been falling out with my is200!!!! Been having intermittent miss firing issues, fought i had it all sorted after changing the spark plugs and a used ignition coil on cylinder number 2. It was fine for a bit then it went again about a month later, on number 2 again according to my mechanic friend when he used his diagnostic machine. Then recommended buying a new one. Again fine for a short period of time, then it went on number 1 sorted that and now its playing up again. So today went out to my friend's garage and he hooked up his code reader again. This time we had miss fire on cylinder 1,2,4. Its going to cost me a fair bit i think, starting to think it could be a ECU problem. :( All this time i have been trying to get it fixed so i can sell it as what a change and could really do with an estate. My car is a T reg (99) with FSH, tax till jan, MOT till aug, its got 126k on the clock and the rear arches have started to bubble so it worth around £1000- £1400. So do i chuck a load more cash at it and sell it for around £1200, doing this i will be losing money and even if i do get it repaired it might only solve it for a sort period of time and maybe not even solve the issue. Or do put it on ebay stating the problem or as spare and repairs? I dont know how much i would get for it that way, if i had the space i would break it but i dont. Anyone got an good idea's?
  11. Hi all, a couple of weeks ago my car started to misfire, had the engine management light on and the trc light flashing. After a little bit of playing with my tools, a bit of research came to the conclusion that one of the ignition coils had gone faulty as the car was services about 1.5k ago and i replaced the spark plugs then. So i replaced the faulty one and the car had been running fine for about a month now. Until today, that is started it up and as i pulling put the car park i felt the engine loose power and start to the feel vibrations of it more than usual just like last time. About 5 mins later the engine management light came back on, shortly followed by the flashing TRC light. So my questions to you all: Do i find out which it is this time and replace that 1? Or do i replace the other 5 so that they are all done? Has anyone else had a similar issue or does anyone have any other ideas? Before any one says it i don't have access to a code reader, wish i did as it could make it easier.
  12. Dude were about's in norfolk are you mate? The is200 is known for a clutch judder.
  13. I have a 5 month old baby and got to say the is200 is a very good family car. My only issue is the boot space, our buggy is a Graco Travel System it takes up alot of space in the boot and we dont have a much space for shopping what is a bit of a pain. It only goes in 1 way but isn't a big problem. I did consider getting an estate but decided to stay with the is200 and we will just hace muddle our way though.
  14. I tend to agree but i do strongly love good value for money. Iv been looking at coilovers iv been eyeing up some meirster R's they are rated highly by all the Honda guys.
  15. Same here mate never heard of them. HKS is a very nice exhaust and i would love one myself they seem to be a tad more expensive than i want to pay at the moment, but saying that all the ones i really would like are around the £500 mark.
  16. You talking mpg around town or on a run. Good luck at getting that around town, I tend to get around 20 - 23 around town. The is200 or any Lexus thinking about like to drink the petrol. If you went for a older is200, b efore 2001 the tax is 210 I think, mine is a 99 and I pay around that.
  17. Iam currently looking at getting a stainless steal exhaust and have a good idea which one i want. But i keep coming across japseed exhaust's here a link http://www.japspeed.co.uk/Lexus-IS200/Exhausts-and-Manifolds/Lexus-IS200-Stainless-Steel-Cat-Back-Exhaust-system./p-10-72-695/ anyone had any experiences with these, if so are they any good? as i don't want a super loud exhaust, just a nice sound. I am liking the sound of the cobra exhaust at the moment.
  18. Cool ill have a look at them. Any idea on the best exhaust, iv been having a look at the scorpion and janspeed. But keeping seeing places offering custom made one's, are they worth it?
  19. Hey all hope everyone is fine. Some people on here may remember not long ago i said i was thinking changing the is200 SE for a estate due baby buggy etc. Anyway after looking at a few, going over the fiances of it considering we want to buy a house in the next 5 years and talking over with the missus iv decided stay with the good old LEXUS!! Plus it passed its MOT on monday straight threw again that's 2 years on the bounce now. I have decided to do a few mods to keep myself happy B) and tidy up the arches as rust is starting :shutit:. The car is totally standard at the moment apart from the sports grill. So far the mods i have planned is a stainless steal exhaust, i do love the look of apexi that ormi has, but they are as rare as rock in horse s***. Any good suggestions on which exhaust to go for? Going to lower her most likely on coilovers. Wind deflectors. Paint the calipers Iv got £500 to blow just cant decide were to start coilovers or exhaust? Thats it for now, alloys will follow up at some point but will wait till the tyre's are almost gone i think.
  20. Hey guys and girls as the title states i am thinking of getting an estate car. I actually started a thread about this in the lounge area but don't seem to getting alot of feed back so i wanted to put here. Here is a link to the other thread. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=73305
  21. I know someone who is selling an excellent Stagea, I'll pm the info. Cheers for the link, but it didnt work.
  22. Good suggestion, but iam not a big fan of the sport cross. But if i can find something else i shall consider it.
  23. Hi all after 3 years of owning my is200 and now i have a 8 week old baby iam finding i need a car with a bigger boot. As the pushchair takes up most of the space in the boot and only goes in 1 way. Iam getting rather ****** off each time i need to get it in/out of the boot. So iam considering getting an estate, just trying to decide which one. I have a budget of around 5k iam considering 1 of the following: Subaru impreza wagon Subaru Legacy wagon (iv driven a salon version and i liked it) Mitsubishi Galant (driven my friends VR4 what was good) Nissan stagea BMW touring Has anyone on here had any of them or have any useful information about them?
  24. Did this start after a recent downpour by any chance? It could be your fuse/junction, could have got water in it coming in via the window screen and run down the cable through the gromet. I would check all the plugs in the plugs/sockets checking for signs of corrision. This is a common problem, which i suffered from myself, it affect the lights on my dashboard like you have described, it also affected my alarm, the headlights kept coming on and staying on. Iam sure if you do a search about headlights staying you'll find a few threads about this.
  25. I get about the same here depending on how i drive.
