  1. I hit a little bird that smashed a big hole in the lower grille. Does anybody know if this grille is available online? Is it a big job to fit? I could of course ask Lexus to replace it, but i would imagine that it would be the most expensive alternative. Thanks in advance for any help.
  2. What i find very useful when driving my 220d in snow and ice is to have my towing eye close to hand and to have the mobile telephone number of a friendly 4x4 driver. Spotty teenagers in 15 year old Toyota starlets that whizz pass, find it absolutely hilarious to see the rear wheels spin on a Lexus..............needless to say, i dont find it so amusing!!!!
  3. Thanks for the warning. I have Dunlop sport Maxx front and rear with about 30k (miles) on them. Rear tyres still above break rubber, front now need replacing. Was thinking about Sport 01, but i will now avoid them. Who told you Dunlop Sport Maxx were not available? I have checked on various websites and it seems they are available http://www.blackcircles.com/order or http://www.eiretyres.com/start.html...........I also made enquiries with fastfit http://www.fastfit.ie/ and they told me they had them. As a matter of interest, please let me know what tyres you get and how much they cost you as i am in the market for a new set.
  4. Give us a laymans translation please Nicnac.....what are the pratical advantages of this? How does it work and what does it cost? It is the software the dealer has for customising and fault finding ..........really not for anyone who has never seen the dirty side of a garage before but is invaluable for servicing etc.You can customise certain items controlling your car such as your dash units ...see my other post for Irish readers...... I will be up to you when the Newry bypass is built....in about 6 years i guess!!!
  5. Give us a laymans translation please Nicnac.....what are the pratical advantages of this? How does it work and what does it cost?
  6. How do i heat the water? Seriously, when buying the car, i was advised that it was a heated windscreen and there i was waiting for the first frosty morning so i could use this wonderful device. Anyway, you live and learn i guess!!
  7. Hi Guys, I turned on the heated front screen the last few frosty mornings with the expectation that the sreen would clear of ice in seconds....i waited...and waited...and then...nothing! What way should this work? Is it possible that the fuse governing it has blown or what could the problem be? Any ideas would be much appreciated. cheers
  8. Any change in consumption? this is wuts am looking for, mine only 45MPG on 80% motoway 45mpg!!!...wouldnt complain about that.
  9. Sounds as if it was the service department that let you own badly. Imagine how upset you would be if this wasnt a company car and you had to pick up the tab? Enjoy the new VW.
  10. Have you read the LPA800 fitting instructions???There is NO connection to the ECU.Perhaps they are talking about somyhing else. I did as it happens and i have looked at it again, and you are right, there is no connection to the ECU. No, i dont think they are talking about something else. I did e mail them telling them of what i was thinking about and they did call me to discuss it. Once they mentioned £1100 to me, i kinda stopped listening, but they definately did mention the connection of the front and rear sensors to the ECU, suggesting that the front and the rear must be done together. I was told that this had been verified by their service department. As that goes against what one of the posters mentioned earlier, i can only suggest that maybe they where talking about an updated system to the LPA800, or else they dont want to touch the job!!!
  11. I have checked out having the parking sensors fitted at Lexus Belfast. I am advised that because of the configuration of the sensors and the arrangement from the ECU, that sensors have to be fitted front and rear and the total cost of this work is a prohibitive £1100!!! Has anybody tried a DIY sensor fitting with genuine parts? It does look a helluva job!
  12. Best of luck with the new motor. As earlier posted, the 320 diesel engine is better than the IS220 as is the gear box. Fuel cosumption is also better on the Beamer. But, thats it. The IS i my opinion is better looking, more comfortable, more toys and they are not two a penny on the streets.
  13. Cheers for the response. Its good to hear some good news stories for the car. Do you notice any issues in first gear or gear changing? I agree that the rear parking sensors is a must, the camera would be fantastic. My budget is tight so I am just gonna have to sit it out and wait for theright one to come along. Out of curiosity how many miles has yours done? Some have said the car gets worst once the miles get over 30k? The car I buy will have more than this to start with and i intend to keep it for atleast 5 years No probs changing gear. There is a bit of turbo lag in first gear but it then quickly takes off, ( you do get used to that). If you dont think you can live with that, go for the petrol 250 auto. I would have went for that myself, but tax on a 2.5 litre car in Ireland would give me a nose bleed. Mine has done 28k miles and has still another 14/15 months of warranty remaining. It is still on its original tyres, with a few miles left on them. By the way, the reversing camera also has guide lines that show the final positioning of the car as you turn the steering wheel!
  14. I got a 2008 IS220d se Multimedia in March this year. No rattles, no squeaks, quiet (after initial start up), 36MPG (with a lot of Dublin heavy traffic driving), 40plus MPG on runs. Incredibly comfortable, fantastic Mark Levison stereo surroud sound system,Bluetooth, sat nav, Reverse camera(how i lasted all these years without one, i will never know),loads of poke when i need it. It even warms my rear end with the heated seats on a cold morning !!!!t may have its critics, but so far, i am absolutely delighted with it and i wouldnt swap it for any car in it's class. Remember that this is a Lexus forum and as such you will have people on this site posting with problems. Take one for a drive (do go for at least the se trim with multimedia) and i am sure you will love it.
  15. Spot the difference!!!! Kidding aside, the new e class is a nice motor and if i was told my next car was going to be a e class, i wouldnt be dissappointed.
  16. Nice car..congrats. The only think i dont like about the new e class is that it looks like a hyundai from the back. Guess it will take me time to get used to it.
  17. Lexus in Dublin have quoted me €415, about £370 for a service at 27,000 miles. I wont be troubling them with my business!
  18. I have a 220d se mm....18 months old with 25k miles. Just checked the engine and it is the exact same as yours. Its either nothing to be concerned about...or we both have a problem. I suspect the former.Anyway, it would be good to hear from somebody in "the know" about these things.
  19. An IS250 Auto multimedia with se spec costs circa €52k...thats about £45k. Of that €52k there is about €20k VAT and VRT(vehicle registration tax). It is obscene.
  20. I would not be at all surprised if the next IS is a petrol based hybrid. There is also huge amount of development going into petrol engines to increase the MPG and to reduce the CO2 output, which in time will negate the benefits of having a diesel engine. Personally, whereas the turbo lag on the is220 is a bit of a pain, i really love the car and thankfully i have not had the problems referred to on this forum. In an ideal world, i would have opted for the IS250 Auto, but the motor tax and Vehicle Registration Tax (VRT) in the Republic of Ireland makes the ownership or the import of this car prohibitively expensive. For the forseeable future, the 220d is the one for me and i have no intention of getting rid.
  21. During the recent hot weather ive had my seat coolers on and whilst i do feel cold air coming out..it is not very noticable and i wouldnt really notice that they are on. The wife on the other hand complains about how cold the seats get..i guess thats Irish wimmin for ya!
