Thanks for the quick reply, I to was initially concerned that the engine might actually be overheating, but with the new sender in this morning, with a stone cold engine, it gave me a right to the top needle deflection on the temp gauge, so either the new sender has gone faulty, or my gauge is bad. The graph you linked to is, I think, for the ECT sensor, a 2-wire sender used by the engine management system as opposed to the humble little 1-wire sender for the temp gauge, which is my problem 10ohm does seem very low, but I need to check it with a better meter. There is water present when I remove the sender, so not a lack of water, I think

My temp gauge went from its normal 1/3rd position to near the top, then right past the top, then down to normal, then righ tup again, so I disconnected the wire from the sender, measured its resistance at 10 ohms, and ordered a OEM replacement from my local corner car spares shop. Popped it in, all was well for 10 minutes of driving, then right up off the scale again. Pulling the wire off the sender drops the gauge to zero. So, 2 faulty senders, or a dodgy gauge? Tried to find the sender resistance values, but my pdf manual just tells you how to check the gauge (earth it via a bulb, should move the needle up) But no sender values, anyone know what the thing should read in a cold, hot engine? I will double- check with another meter, but both senders read about 10ohm in a hot engine when I checked them with my iffy lives-in- the boot meter cheers all

My alternator has been basting in PAS for the 2 years I've had it, and it was like that before I bought it. I don't think it's a problem. The electrical gubins in the transmisson is quite happy to be immersed in similar fluid. I guess it might not be the best on the slip rings, but alternators do fail occasionally, my point is, just because a dead alternator is drenched in PAS fluid, doenn't prove that was the cause of the failure.

This is embarrassing, I thought I was handy around cars. I can pop the heater vent assembly out of the poppers, but it will only come forward about half an inch, and then something along the bottom edge, about the middle, stops it coming any further. This is the vent assembly above the centre console. Everything I have read just says "pop it out and lift away" Assuming some kind soul sorts me out, I don't see any bulbs on ebay, so is the dealers the best place to get replacements? cheers:blush:

Plastic pig? are we talking CX500 here? I had a Eurosport 500 and then a 650, the 650 just left everthing dead at the lights, such fun -
I have just fited new disks and pads, cheapest I could find on Ebay, and I have nice quiet brakes. I did refit the 2 springs that act to keep the pads apart, and perhaps dampen any vibration. I also refited the metal shims on the backs of the pads. Perhaps shims and springs, or any anti-squeal bits, could be got from the Lexus dealer

That's a fine offer, I have managed to find one, should have it in 2 to 3 days. If the old one ends up spare, it's your's if you want it Glad you found one, I'll have go at it and send it back to you for a spare! The replacement caliper and bracket I received was the wrong one- I think they changed them in 91, but I did manage to eventualy beat the frozen pin out, by driling a hole through the front of the bracket so I could sneak up on it with a drift. I used a pin and the rubber bellows from the "wrong" caliper bracket. Anyone need a brake caliper? I now have my super cheap Ebay disks and pads fitted, and my brakes are brilliant Got there in the end!

The part actually arrived today, and, true to form, it was the wrong part. My '92 has some 91 parts, I think. Not only that, but the caliper bracket had a frozen pin, the problem I am trying to overcome. Managed to eventually beat the old broken pin out of my own bracket, and will utilize a pin and rubber gaiter of the "new" part. Some jobs go easy, and some don't.

My turn now Foreign Car Spares (FCS) Birmingham I used http://www.247spares.co.uk/partrequest to find a supplier of a brake caliper FCS were the first to respond out of 4, so I paid £47 on Tuesday, 20th July, for the caliper with 2-3 days delivery. I would have prefered overnight, but reconed they were the quickest to respond, so therefore efficient, and it may arrive in 2 days. Didn't worry about it Wednesday, Thought it might come Thursday, it didn't, and phoned on Friday when it also didn't come, to find out it hadn't even been shipped, because " It was on the shelf, but we had to take it back to the car to make sure it was the right part" So they said they would ship it Saturday, to arrive Monday, but it didn't So I phoned Monday (today) to get the tracking number, they said they would phone back with it, but didn't, So I phoned again, to get put on hold for 12 minutes, hung up and phoned again, to be told it hadn't been shipped, but was now going on the truck as we spoke, to arrive Tuesday. To be fair, they were always polite and efficient sounding, and obviously have a computer system to track orders I'll see what happens tomorrow....

Someone with a bench drill could drill it out or drill it and use a broken screw extractor on it. It needs soaking in penetrating oil first Pins and attached rubber bits bits are available as parts. Where abouts do you live? Im in Glasgow, with hindsight I should have soaked it more and used more heat on it, what I thought was the pin starting to loosen was it actually twisting, eventually it snapped through metal fatigue.

I am having some trouble locating a brake caliper torque plate and bottom sliding pin, the pin was frozen and eventually snapped when I tried to free it up. Think I'm giving it the correct name, its the bracket held on with 2 bolts that has the 2 sliding pins that the brake caliper mounts on. Its the front drivers side, K reg, MkII, but perhaps its the same part on other years, I have some photos to compair Benfur / Maurice doesn't have one, and the breakers I have tried so far haven't either. Car is currently sat on my drive looking pathetic, so if anyone has a parts car and can help out, I'd love to hear from them Thanks, Ian picture1 Picture 2

Somewhat reduced, my MkII gets 22MPG at best on a long run, usually 20. Around town, stop start, worst is 14MPG Installation includes a big heavy duty tank, and various options at the engine end. Tanks hold 80% of their capacity to allow for liquid expansion. I have 2 tanks, one replaces the spare, one takes up a lot of boot space, but I wanted the range, 300miles. Mine was converted when I got it, though I fitted the 2nd tank. Couldn't afford to run it on petrol
