  1. fil, just wondering where you obtained the above figures? You should also know that several Police forces DO have equipment for roadside checking. Which law would need changing to enable the roadside checks which are being done and can/have resulted in prosecutions? The figures are about 3 years old. Ministry of transport figures used when type approving or single make testing vehicles. This may not be the law but its the figures used to make sure your car is quite enough to be used on the roads. It must pass this test as part of type approval all new vehicles must pass it. Which law needs changing?? good question, my thought was police are not allowed to drive your vehicle and to carry out the test they would have to. If they drive your vehicle then find it is defected (as in fails the test) then the police would also be subject to the law, they did afterall commit the same offence for which they are catching you doing. As no one is above the law,not even the police then some law needs to be changed or introduced to allow road side testing. The above stated figures are under load conditions so merely reving the car to 3500 rpm wouldnt work for test.
  2. My opinion people as a driver and mechanic /mot tester of over 20 years. If you people wish to buy them fine. I have got about in the snow for years without them, and so have alot of other people. Snow/ winter tyres, what ever you call them give such little diffrence i cannot justify the cost. Who said "its his insurance if he hits me" thats a bit wrong isnt it. I might just get infront of you one day and stomp on my brakes afterall its your insurance. Not very sensable comment is it really. Its a bit I am ok stuff you. Well it over 7 degrees today hope you all getting the best from your winter tyres. As for abs traction control and all the rest of your modern aids i would rather not have them. I still have a car with nothing at all doesnt even have electronic ignition. I dont have a problem gettign abotu in it in this weather. Simple fact drive to match the weather conditions and you dont winter/snow tyres thats my point. If your happy buying them then so be it wont catch me getting ripped of though. I recently bougth a set of 4 for a customer cost me £84 per tyre. Thats including vat and postage from Sweeden. As mentioned the guy lives down the road from me and i got home, abotu half a mile up hill from where he lives. So my opinion, waste of his money. Like i said if you want to buy them be my guest, if i was allowed to i would even supply them for you!!.
  3. So how much is too much before you buy a diffrent car. An example, a pal of mine has an Aristo (gs300)he has spent in excess of £4500 on the engine to make it faster. To me he would have been better of buying a faster car then putting this much money into a car. Whats the genral opinion of how much is silly before you should just buy a new car. Like puttign a turbo on an is200 wouldnt buying an is300 be better option?.
  4. My old sunday school teacher and now customer was done for driving at 32 miles an hour. This guy has never even swore in his life let alone broke the law. He dives a 5 year old standard Honda civic. Just proves you dont have to stand out to get in noticed. He was handed a fine and points. He was made or given choice of a driver re training course. This guy is 72 years old and never committed a chrime in his life. If the police are having a clamp down they will get you without you having to stand out.
  5. Is there a diffrence between custom and modded?? Should be good topic. Theres a lot of people who like a standard car. Theres a lot that like to change them. Seems to me theres a diffrence between a mod and custom. Let me explain. In my opinion Custom would be a change to better suit the driver. Modded would a change to improve the car. Now theres also a lot of overlap in that. I have a few custom bits on my car. I have a twin tail pipe exhaust (one each side) its no louder doesnt give more power doesnt change anything really just the looks. I also have an induction kit and one of engine and strut top covers again no noticable diffrence to the car other than looks. Painting your wheels black on a black car changes nothing other than looks. mod or custom? Enforced changes like new stereo after error 3 code, mod or custom?? leather/half leather heated seats from cloth mod or custom.? It would appear to me that some changes are ok but others are not. I mean no one would complain if you put half leather in if you only had cloth to start with. But most people would look down on a big bore exhaust. Any change to a car is a mod even if you have your carset up at wim. Its not factory therefore a mod, again no one would complain about a wim set up. So every one list whats a good mod whats a custom change whats good and whats bad. I am just curious to see who thinks what abotu what changes are good and bad
  6. Stani As a tyre fitter myself i wouldnt have sold you 2 snow tyres. I wouldnt sell anyone just 2 snow tyres. Personally i would have talked you out of buying 2 tyres. I wouldnt have sold you any snow tyres at all. They give better grip in the snow (according to the manufactueres they do) Theres upsides to snow tyres if you believe the hype. Big tyre companies sell you a set of tyres as they make money that way. The fitters themselves make money. I know for a fact, from experiance, if you go into at least 2 of the big country wide tyre fitters for a tyre, or anything else for that matter. If you want one and they talk you into 2 or better still, a set of 4, the fiiter themself gets a cut of the "extra" sales. With the snow in this country (minimal in my area) i dont see an upside of snow tyres at all. If your happy with your set up,good. If people want to buy a set of 4 because they saw it on a web site based in a counrty with loads of snow great let them. One post i saw on this thread, a guy had paid 3 times more for his tyres than he should have and hes still happy good for him. Personal choice if you ask me. I cant see the point. My big 3 tyre suppliers, who supply all the country wide tyre fitters, didnt stock snow tyres at all until this year as no one ever asked for them before. This year they have had loads of orders, they still dont stock them though as they dont see the point in them either. I know some fast fit tyre centres have stock of them as there is a massive mark up on them. We have, on the whole, managed for years without them. Seems to me like its a current fad for the wealthy who can afford 2 sets of tyres. I can afford them still wont go for it though. Drive to the conditons is what i say, if your car understeers or over steers in the snow, your driving too fast for the conditions. As for the scares of you wont stop as good if you dont have snow tyres on the front. ASk yourself a question why would you want to stop quicker then the guy behind you ?? especially if the guy behind hasnt got snow tyres??. Looks like you will still be having a bump to me. Seems to me with all the members of this site the majority of us manged with out snow tyres i know i have. Oh and puttign snow tyres on your car wont matter to your insurance company they wont be bothered what yres you have on as long as they are legal. I just rang an insurance broker friend of mine they seem to think they dont make enough diffrence to bother about.
  7. I recently tried to aquire snow tyres for a customer of mine for his mercedes. I have a couple of major tyre suppliers, neither of which could do me a snow tyre. I eventually had some shipped in from Sweeden via one of my suppliers. The customer wanted a set of wheels to go with the tyres so he just has to change wheels in the summer rather than swapping tyres. So set for winter set for summer. The guy lives down the road from me (note the word down) I havnt had a problem getting up the road were we live and neither has he. I didnt spend over thousand pound for tyres though. The guy had been reading up on the web about snow tyres, on websites based in Sweeden and such places where they have lots of snow. Personally where i live theres not enough snow to need snow tyres then again we dont have enough sun for a convertable either but i have one. In my opinion you dont need them in thsi country they are a lot of money for a few weeks of the white stuff, the fact i got my customer got home with them and i got ferther up the same lane without them would tell me at least my customer didnt need them after all i did drive past his house on my way home. Thers no law against putting 2 snow tyres on by the way. If you wish to put 2 on the rear (which i presume is your intention) fine do so. The points about doing a full set just means you will have presumably beter grip on the steering as well as beter traction. Personally it a question of driving, i have had many customers in my garage in the last few weeks with bumps and knocks. They all blame it on the snow. Snow? i ask was the snow driving? . They rightly look at me funny. This is when i explain, its not the snow its the driver who is driving to fast for the conditions not too much snow for driving. The Russians have a saying, its not too cold your just wearing inapropriate clothing for the weather!
  8. Rather ignorant on your part don't you think? Unfortunately, there are no social restrictions on who can own a car, even a Lexus. I hope someone doesn't see me driving around in my Lexus and label me as a snob. :winky: For my part, rear fog lights bug the hell out of me. Using them on an empty motorway in thick fog will give adequate warning to closing traffic, other than that I think their use is excessive at best, dangerous at worst. As for the fronts, I've made a point of looking at them since this post has started and I've yet to be dazzled by any. There does seem to be a lot of people that have them on, whether they're daytime lights or not I don't know. And no, I am not one of those drivers that has my front fogs on. Frankly, you'll dazzle more people if you have your headlight level at a higher setting (via the control in-car) than you will with your front fogs on IMO. Thank you for this post someone else sees it my way. Just as an extra wind up seen as my comments have become nothing more than a wind up. I was in front of a golf last night. I was in my van, thsi guy dazzled me for about 2 miles. I was so annoyed that eventually i turned my rearfog lights on to show him he was dazzling me. Nothing happened it changed nothing. I even turned on the hazard warning becon on the roof still nothing i was still dazzled. Eventually i turned all the mirrors on the van so i couldnt see him no more (couldnt see anythign else behind me either. The reason for the dazzle ? Incorrectly adjusted nearside headlight. Wasnt a hid was front fogs on just a dodgey headlight. Why isnt this illegal? if a fog light is then so should this. AS for ym comment being a wind up, my comments are my opinion backed with a little experiance from my life. Just because people dont agree it doesnt mean i am trying to wind people up. I dont trawl throught the site picking fights because i have nothing beter to do. If you check i post on very little threads, Its just when some one comes out with a comment of "looks like a T!t on the way back to your council estate" it winds ME up. so i set abotu proving the guy didnt have a point other than his own uneducated stereo typical rant. I personally come from a wealthy back ground very wealthy infact. But because of problems with my mum and dad, we ended up on a council estate. I have now worked an got myself out of there. I have brought my brothers and sisters away from the estate as well. Having spent years on the council estates i have nothing against them or the people living there. I still visit my friends on the estate and happily drive my Lexus onto the estate. Maybe it was me the guy was refering to when he mentioned going back to the council estate. Thing is mate i dont live there any more i have a six bedroom house now with indoor pool and 2 double garages. I still have nothing against council estates though. So thats my rant over now i have explained my posts. All of which by the way i still stand by
  9. Don't quite get that part of the post. sorry. Didn't see where you were referred to either by fjcfarrar....in fact he said "we don't know who you are". Well half of the stuff he posted relates to things i have touched on during this thread. Thedrug dealer tints when i said mine are one shade darker than legal tints. The number plates that get me stopped by police, tyres that are just legal.hids that i have stated i have. I even mention a guy i know who changes half his car before the mot test, I presumed it was an attempt at sarcasm!!!
  10. Fil, I’m not sure exactly what you were hoping to gain from contributing to this thread - having apparently been by far the loudest voice here. Yet through the ramblings about what is or isn’t a fog-lamp, the oh-so-clever ways you or your mates have found to stick 2 fingers up at the law, or even the snide comments at me (when neither of my previous posts were directed personally at you), I struggle to see what you’ve achieved. Apart from possibly making yourself look as though you had nothing better to do. Was it just a case of taking up an opposing point of view for the sake of it? A Monty Python “Am I in the right place for an argument?” moment! You certainly didn’t see how the d!ck that I was originally referring to was driving on the night in question – weaving about and driving erratically around me while I had my family in the car. Never mind ME distancing myself from him, NO self-respecting Lexus owner would have wanted to be associated with that idiot. To be honest I hoped he might frequent this site and get the message. If there had been a single red light to stop him on the evening that I first posted, I was so angry at the time that I’d have delivered the message personally, and he wouldn’t have behaved like that again (or even got back up) in a hurry. You also might notice that my last post talked about my Lexus ownership in the past-tense, as thankfully it’s now become the burden of another. It may be nice enough cruising along in comfort, but I’d rather be spending literally HALF my money per month on fuel in something that’s nowhere near as sluggish thanks. So I honestly don’t care what people think of me as a Lexus owner now, cos I ain’t one, and am all the happier for it! Finally back to the fog lights: now that we all know about your extensive driving experience, have you ever ridden a motorbike at night in heavy rain? I have, and it’s difficult enough having 10,000 lights from a car mucking up your vision through all the water droplets, without brainless dorks making it 20,000 for the sake of fashion! So if you choose to align yourself with them rather than all of the people who know damn well that they are idiots, then more fool you. That’s all I need to say on the subject, and for that matter, on the site. Now I HAVE got something better to do, and it isn't here. End of. Its called being devils advocate. If everyone agreed all the time there would be no conversation. My problem wiht you was that you have it in your head owning a Lexus elevates you to a higher status. You wish to distance yourself from anything "bad" that happens wiht a Lexus as you dont want it to reflect on yourself. Seems you only baught a Lexus in the first place as you felt you "didnt have anything to prove" in one. Your words. Its a car,its not a way of life. I very very frequently put people staright about the Lexus. People that think they are very posh and cost lots of money. Usually these people drive cars of higher value than mine and they are suprised that one can be had for £1500. A lexus or any other car isnt a status symbol A car doesnt elevate you to a higher class of people. Some of the richest people i know (customers) are the most down to earth guys i know. I service vehicle for the guys who came one place above the bee gees on the times rich list this year. The doen swan abotu with the "look at my car i am better then you " attitude that you seem to demand from owning a Lexus. No self respecting Lexus owner?? i fail to see why any driverof any car would want anything to do with the person you talk about,i fail to see what being a Lexus owner matters. Stopping at red lights to "give him the message personally" thats road rage isnt it. Isnt making threats of physical violance illegal "or even got back up" sounds like a threat to me. Surly physical abuse is far worse than any crime i have committed with a slighter darker tint on my windows. I have ridden bikes many time and also been pillion never yet has a properly adjusted fog light dazzled me.
  11. Love the post fjcfarrar but non of it applies to me. Firstly i dont have drug dealer tints my fronts match the back and i havnt tinted the screen I dont have a de cat and my tail pipe is smaller than the standard Lexus pipe. My numberplates used to get me stopped but not because of any spacing issue but because of police not knowing what they are doing and could tell an I from 1 I do have hids but have made a shield for them so they dont bounce light upwards and i do also know how to adjust them. My tyres are all brand new as i get them so cheap i could change them every week. I dont drive with fog lights on.if you must know one doesnt work so it really does look crap if i up them on and because i never use them anyway have never bothered to change the bulb. I dont have anything to change on my car before i put it in for mot. Firstly because theres nothing on my car that needs changing and secondly i am the mot tester. I know i have all the regs i know i can break and get away with because an VOSA ID card works wonders with police. I do get the looks you talk about, usauly when i ballon in the car, but as i am now 38 with 5 kids, 7 if you include the 2 i foster, this doesnt happen as often as it used to.

    Wheel Centre Is

Thanks for everyones help and advice with this problem. Just to update everyone i have took a gamble and bougth a set of round ones of fleebay. They were £25 including postage. They should be here in the next few days. If they fit they will do,if not the search will start again.
  13. Thansk to both the above posters for taking the time to look up my problem. I was aware of what the plate was ment to be,an I, as i purchased the plate many years ago. Was nice to see the law hasnt changed and its definatly still an I though. AS for the 6 inch sun strip, i dont know about illegal but its certainly an mot fail if it protrudes into the swept area of the wiper blades. Any sticker or non offical pass or tax discs is an mot fail if its within the swept area of the wipers. Any furry dice (if you still have them lol) or air freshners hanging of your interior mirror ir a fail. Worse of all is peoples sat nav stuck in random places on the windscreen.Any way of topic again. thanks for looking up my problem lads just come back to this with a thought. If my numberplate is Irish and "Foreign" number plates dont have to be yellow and white with black letters (as with the mot test) does anyone think i would get away with black and silver plates like my mates Bently. They would look real smart on a black Lexus. I had a set (black silver pressed steel) on my 1969 escort and still have them in the garage i could stick them on the Lex and see what happens.
  14. cheers dave1. just out of interest have you seen how tinted is legal??. i not joking either. legal tint is slightly less tinted than the standard tint in the back of a IS sport. So 1 shade darker than legal is about the same as a standard tint. I doubt any copper would even notice. very dark and one way tints i can see them pulling you for but seriously doubt they would even question my tints. A legal tint is like cling film its hardly even worth bothering with. Number plates now oyu mention them are very interesting. There was al sorts of stuff about them brought into the mot test,,,,,,,,,,, and then took straight out again. Again as above theres ways round stuff that police wont even notice. A customer of mine has a 81 bently t2. Hes been driving it around for 10 year with illegal black and silver non reflective pressed steelnumberplates on. Hes never even been stopped not once. Like i said before theres alot worse crimes out there, I know this is probably real bad thing to say but go catch a proper criminal. Sure you get my drift. Doing 33 in a 30 zone, slightly darker than allowed windows,2 minutes late back to your parking meter, 3/4 mm wrong space on your number plate, all wrong but not really a major crime doing anyone any harm are they. The Police have stopped me abotu my number plate, just otu of interest. THey cant decide what its ment to be. FIL 4362 is what its ment to be but they insist "i" isnt an issued letter in the uk and therefore my number plate has to be F1L 4362. THe problem with that is my number plate isnt an uk plate and isnt a 1. I now have FIL4362 on the front and F1L 4362 on the back or the other way round i cant remember now. Basicly now i have been stopped by every copper in the area they now leave me alone about the number plate. Not just the Lexus either i have had the number plate many years and had it on many cars.
  15. Enright, i totally get where yor coming from now. You dont like fog lights because in your opinion there chavey and you have seen a Lexus with fog lights on and you thought you would distance yourself from that and not want anyone to think you was chavey. Ok i wont ever call you chavey. Dont worry yourself no one thinks your a chav at all. Dont talk wet man its a car . A car says nothing about the man driving it. Its a car. Driving a bmw or audi makes you a c0ck because clarkson says it does? The only people that believe that at c0cks themselves. Your only problem seems to be not wanting to to be deemed a c0ck like a Saxo driver because you saw someone in a lexus with their fog lights on and wanted to distance everyone from that. Personally i think anyone who relates himself a beter or worse person because of what car heshe drives is a c0ck. your concerned about the reputation of the "brand" because of having its front fog lights on. I wonder if i could sort that for you. I will contact Lexus UK tomorow for you, pass on your concerns, they may stop producing cars with fog lights on after all they wouldnt want to loose sales by people not wanting to buy Lexus any more now that people are driving with their fog lights on. Dont make me laugh mate is a car not a way of life. No one actually thinks "oh look a Lexus with his front fog lights on, i wont buy one of them, there all chavs"
  16. I'm sorry if I misunderstood. I thought you were saying that YOUR personal car, ie registered in your name on the V5 was the car you were saying was illegal. I would still think however that driving it knowingly with illegal tints could invalidate the policy, insurers are getting a lot more canny these days and will avoid paying if they can and illegal tints might well be a good enough reason for them Dont worry Dave1 technically i think your right. Theres a fine line between my car and a car owned by me or my company. Its probably a very grey area. I am insured on a traders policy ( 2 actually, my work also covers me anytime night or day) to buy and sell cars or repair cars. MY car,the lexus,is registered me but at the bussiness address. Its probably a company car but as its my company then i guess its my car. It gets explained to me by my acountant its something to do with income tax, company car tax and second job tax. I think legally the car belongs to the company and is used by me for bussiness, so its "lent" to me for my bussiness. Any mail for the car and comes to my bussiness address but its still down to me to deal with it. Bit technical but it legal to do according to my accountant.
  17. As you say, there is an exam to become a tester. I fail to see how a tester gats experienced before passing an examination which qualifies that person to carry out a test. Regarding the test fee for a re-examination by a VOSAinspector, this is refunded if the original test was found to have been flawed. For anyone interested, every MOT Test Centre has to make available a copy of the testing manual to customers on request. again Dave1 your correct the manuel is available at all test stations on request its also available at all libraries. http://www.motinfo.gov.uk/htdocs/m4i00000101.htm That should get you to the online version. JUst be aware that the test changes all the time via email i dont know how up to date the online guide is. Experianced or quilified as in city and guilds.. You could have been self employed and never sat an exam (as my boss is)hes been working in a garage since the age of 14,hes 51 now so definatly experianced. This qualified him to become a test afera 2 day course at vosa. Inexperiance and no qualification? then you simply sit the qualifying exam set out by vosa, although i think there may be still some experiance required but it may just be an age requirement either way still involves passing an exam and then a 2 day course both laid down by vosa set and tested by themselves.
  18. No i dont have it as its very expensive and not required for all stations at the moment. I still use the old method laid down by VOSA. I use my assistant, then draw on my experiance, then if in doubt run it by my quality controller and station manager then decide from there. So in short its run through aprox 60/70 years of experiance before i fail it or pass it of course. I believe the Irish all have sptl. Its a compleatly automated system for checking all play, excesive movement. even headlight adjustment i believe. pretty well much ruling out all judgement from any tester .
  19. So you openly admit to driving your car with illegal tints and say that it is not a problem? I would have thought that a person with your responsibilities..i.e. MOT Tester, Area co-ordinator for a motor club, would have more sense. Have you thought that you are technically driving with invalid insurance? Tinting windows is a mod and as such should be notified to your insurance company and if they are, as you proudly quote illegal as they one shade darker than legal, then your insurance company would decline to insure you if they were aware. So since they are obviously not aware of the degree of tint they could declare your insurance void if it was discovered following any RTA. Just because you don't see it as a danger doesn't alter the fact that they are, in your own words, illegal. AMAZING!!!! Thanks for your, in your words AMAZING wizdom. I have a motor traders policy and as such am insured to drive any car modded or not with out having to inform my insurance company of what were or when i am driving. My insurance company are not interested in what i drive as long as its owned by my (having bill of sale is enough) or given to me in conection with my work. I am in charge of any car whislt in my care and subject to any rules of the raod ie fines for bald tyre speeding and such like, but they cant hold me responsable for any modification done on any car. Its a pretty standard policy and if it was your way any modded car would never get repaired serviced or mot tested as the mechanic wouldnt be covered to drive it. So yes i believe i drive a car with an illegal mod but as my insurance are not bothered and neither are the police,i wont be in a rush to change my windows.
  20. Ok, working backwards through your post. A chassis is the bit coloured black in the pictures in the testers manuel. Its that simple. Theres pictures and the chassis is coloured in. There are machines out there for testing play the new SPTL decide what is play and what isnt play same as emissions test machines not up to tester to decide. Also not up to tester to decide if brakes work or not the caculation isnt even done by the tester any more. You CAN complain and say you think your car should have passed when i failed it you can also complain it should have failed when i passed it. But this is kept quite so the genral public doesnt know about. Every test cente has to carry the form for you to complain on should you wish to, but a have worked in garages 20/21 years i dont even know what its called it will be a vt something or other. Will find out for you if you wish as this information isnt genrally known. It involves another test fee and another test carried out by a vosa inspector ata testcentre of your choice and more often than not agrees with the original result. And sadly its a court of law that needs definative proof given under machine test. Drink driving for instance should you banned because i copper thought you was drunk??. Law is about proof nto an opinion. An mot tester has to be qualified and experianced not just a mechanic. Althogh there is a exam which you have to pass should you be neither qualified or experianced, its not just a case of i am i tester what i say goes. hope this answers your questions
  21. Agreed Dave. But it all comes down to education and money. The police will need re training to know what is and what isnt a hid and if its fitted correctly. They will also need funds to buy equipment to measure the volume of an exhaust and the law will need changing to allow them to do this. The law on exhaust is/was 101Db at 3500rpm in any gear. The police would have to be able to either test your car there and then or be allowed to impound your car until such a test could be arranged. Either solution isnt practical. I dont think police are insured to drive "any car" in the first instance and they would have to carry the machine at all times. Window tints i dont see as a problem, my front windows are one shade darker than legal and have been for 12 months at least. I have never been stopped about it. Unless your tints are way over the top i dont see it as a danger, my sunglasses are darker than my tints, but some limit has to be set some where i guess and mine are illegal so if i get stopped i will just hold my hands up. I dont think my local police have the machine for measuring window tints ( as i have never heard of anyone being done for it) but i know some forces have it. AS for your insurance arguement i couldnt agree more i know fo at least 2 people done for drink driving that still do it. I saw one lad today at the valeters who was moaning his insurance was £4000 on his type r civic. His major complaint was his insurance company wouldnt quote him this year. Obviously he had learnt his lesson as my mate, the valeter, removed at least 3 or 4 empty bottle of beer from his car. Fair enough he may not have drank them but isnt it iligal to have an open container of beer in your? would take some convincing they were empty when he put them in there !!
  22. Transporter was suggesting the highway code was law. his quote were copied from the highway code. I was mearly pointing out it isnt law it just quotes SOME laws. Technically it doesnt even quote law it gives refrance to law. Either way my posts gives my views on the laws we are all talking about. Until the police have a way to measure what is and what isnt poor visabilty then no one will be taken to court for the crime of "driving with fog lights on". So its a stupid pointless law. If they make it law that is illegal to dazzle people with any light then the police will have to get some sort of machine to measure "dazzle". They will also have to take to court anyone who fails to turn of main beam lights. Its a stupid pointless law. As the point of this thread was about looking like a tw8t with your lights on when there are not needed and all new cars now have to have lights on all day then in the words of the first posters everyone "will look like council estate baseball cap wearing boy racers".
  23. If you still want to be technical, anyone know of a police force that has a metre for measuring low visability.?? If they havent got one then they cant take you to court for it can they because whos to say what is good or bad vis therefore who can say if you should have your fog lights on or not. I have an mark 1 rs2000 a 1969 vintage. It has a custom made exhaust on it. I was stopped many times and told my exhaust was "too loud" and i should change it. Not one single copper could tell me how loud was too loud or had access to any form of machine to actually measure it. I know what is too loud and have access to to a mechine to measure it. They wereall right it is too loud but as the police cant prove it and therefore cant take me to court for it i dont think i will be changing it in the near future. Same goes for fog lights, until the police start handing out punishment of some sort for having them on, its a pointless law. People will still drive round with them on.
  24. Although failure to comply with the other rules of the Code will not, in itself, cause a person to be prosecuted, the line above is copied from your quote taken from the highway code!!. You read the bits of the highway code you want i will read the bits i want see what comes out.Like i said the highway code is guide lines it quote some laws but is not the law it mearly quotes some laws. Interprit it how you like as its not law i wont bother with it. I am more concerned with current LAW rather than than out dated guidelines. Isnt the first chaper of the highway code about pedestrians??. So anyone that walks on the road should also read it and be "done" for not following the rules written within,ye right. The whole point of the original post is that some Muppet was using his fog lights when it was good visibility because they thought they were cool. And most people just think you look like a tw8t. Theres another quote i have copied from a previous post. So what, all mercedes drivers look like Tw8ts now do they. I have seen 2 mercedes today with the new DRL on them ,both had these lights fitted in the spot where a fog light would normally be fitted. It wont be long before many other manufacturers follow suit. So on these grounds as of next year all drivers will look like tw8ts as everyone with a new car will be driving round with lights on. Dont tell me a guy with lights on looks like a tw8t and another doesnt just based on what the lights are called?? Your still driving round with bright lights on when its not needed. Lets not get technical about it when the original post was about LOOKS.
  25. Sorry, but since when has the highway code been law???. guidelines are not law.The highway code may quote the law but the highway code isnt law. Most of the stuff in the highway code is mearly advice and good manners. 100 metres is considered low vis???? you dont have to see that far to pass your test. the highway code is the pretty well much the most out dated piece of litrature realating to road use i have ever read. Stopping distances???? if you car stops in the time the highway code suggest, yoru car isnt fit for the road. The highway code may well give a definition of low vis but now explian to me how you measure that, acuratly and fairly. One man can see better than another. Unless you have some sort of machine for measuring it then the highway codes standard discription of when to use lights wont count anyway. so now show me some where in law where it stats what is low vis and show me a way of acuratlty measuring it and then show me some one who has actually been done for it in a court of law. What i am trying to say is how stupid is the law in banning with your fog lights on. I have seen 4/5 cars today with the new DRL on 2 were on mercedes. Both were fitted where there would normally be a fog light. Dam well looked to me like they both had fog lights on. Lets not get technical about what we call these things afterall the point of this post was to say "driving with fog lights on in the day looks stupid" The thread has got technical about what is a fog light what isnt a fog light when to use them when not to use them. If i recall the first couple of post were about looking like "council estate" boy racers with backwards baseball caps. Well looks to me like mercedes now make their cars look like (not my words) council estate baseball cap wearing boy racers. Like i said the thread was abotu looks not the technicalities of what is or isnt a fog light.
