  1. wheel specialist in manchester did mine Charged me £265 for 4 wheels. They sand blast them repair any chips scuffs then powder coat them. Refit tyres re balance new valve. Done in ta day in a choice of many colours. Murphy 1059, if your interested they have a web site and a called wheel specialist. They are based at City works on Manchester Old Road near Alan Turing Way, sure if your a City fan you will know where that is!!
  2. code readers can be bought cheap, but if you buy a cheap one thats what your getting a cheap one. Some on the market only give you a fault code, so if you spend 40 quid on a code reader plug it in and it tells you PO355 and nothing else, are you any better off?? I have spent thousands on code readers and ecu scanners non of them do everything on all cars. MOst of the basic cheaper ones just do engine fault codes my more expensive one will do alrams imobiliser reset dash mileage abs airbag traction control central locking everything. Unless you have lots of mates with engine lights on dont buy one just take it to some one who has got one and knows how to use it. you said your car hasnt got a light on anyway so chances are theres no faults in your system so plugging it in to a basic scanner wont tell you anything. For the warning light to come on the sensor must have gone out of its set peramiters or it wont recognise a fault. You can have a faulty sensor thats still with in its limits. An engine temp sensor can be readign -40 and wont register a fault but it will make the car run on choke all the time giving higher engine revs and higher fuel usage.
  3. do your self a favour and stop going round in circles asking questions for help on here. I have been a mechanic for over 20 years and wouldnt even try to tell you what "the" problem is. my last post was to make you see how many faults the problem could be caused by. Rather then checking this and that take it to a reputable garage and get it fixed. No one and i do mean no one can tell you exactly what the fault is, and changing and checking everything thats been suggested is only going to get very expensive. http://www.goodgaragescheme.co.uk look on that web site take your pick of what your looking for in your area. That web site has a feedback scheme that works the same as ebays feedback scheme so you get an honest opinion of every garage on there.
  4. i put the exact same seats into mine and mine is an s model. I had cloths seats no electric anything. My air bags sockets pluged straight in and just had to run posi and negi wires for seat motors. mine are not heated seats as i dont like them ( good to turn passenger one on when they not looking so they wonder why they sudenly getting warm *****). i didnt have to do anything with seat belts at all. i changed my door cards as well they matched the cloth seats so had to go as well. There must be a few diffrent wiring looms, i followed a post on here when putting my seats in and the wire colours were all diffrent to mine in the end i just ran a posi from fuse box and earthed it to the earth point under the seat.
  5. You have a problem. Your car shouldnt idle at 1500/2000 rpm. So theres the problem for a start. Thers lots of faults on your car that could cause high idle and not put the management light on. Is your throttle cable adjusted corrcectly?? if you have changed your plugs and air filter you could have moved it or even re routed the cable when movign it out of the way. Is your air temp sensor in the air box?? this also could have come out of its litle hole. Both of these could cause high idle speed and wont show engine light faults. You could have an air leak into the intake system this would cause high revs. Your lambda sensor could be stuck on rich cycle this definatly would cause high fuel consupsion and may not show engine light fault. Best thing to do is get it into garage and get it checked properly. Dont get it in for fault code reading if theres a fault like that the light will be on. It wont show a fault if non of the monitored systems are not out of set peramiters. Even your engine temp sensor could be faulty if its reading cold it will make car run on choke all the time, dont know what the base line is on the Lex but most cars an open switch reads -40 this wont show as a fault code (as it could actually be -40) but will certainly make your car use tons of fuel and cause high engine idle.
  6. i concur with ormi although personaly i wouldnt even try the front fogs there not int he mot test so wouldnt even turn them on.
  7. sorry to say this guys but holy cack. any body want to know a fault code pm me i have every fault code for every car out there. I just had a pm of a guy who i helped out with his Lamdba/oxygen sensor fault code he thanked me and then added he ordered one. for wait for this £120 quid woo hoo some one got taken there i replaced mine and my mates (both came on within a fortnight of each other) with an ngk unit costing less than £50. Both have been perfect and that since november ish!!
  8. I certainly won't take offence and hope that I am also not causing offence, but you said you were not sure of the rules, Your own words were...... "Nothing and i do mean nothnig was ever actually cleared up everyone had a comment to say but no one told me the rules,For every expert that said move one said dont move. So what do you do ???? because i dont know." I wasn't commenting on whether I agreed or disagreed with the regulations regarding crossing red traffic signals since my opinion is irrelevant. All I was attempting to do was clarify the legal situation for you. If one is aware of the relevant regulations it is then up to the individual to make their own decision as to their actions and any potential consequences. To clear up what i do know, The camera that cought me "turns on" 3 seconds after the light goes red. So stopping or movign off as long as you cross the line quicker than 3 seconds after the light goes red your fine. I got caught as i had been sat at the lights for 33 second before i crossed the line. Thats about the only fact i do know in the case. On the same kind of note, i was sat in traffic at same junction 3 weeks ago one side of the road was completelty closed traffic was queued at the lights. An ambulance nace behind us know one could go nowere so the ambulance turned of the sirens and sat there until the traffic lights changed. This was real clever thing to do, s if people had tried to move out of the way theres some bloody big holes to drive down. I live just outside Manchester city centre and the council are putting the tram through here, theres road work road closures diversions and junctions priorities changing every week its a nightmare. To top it all of its goignto take 2 years to get it all finished so they say.
  9. well sorry to say this Dave but BLAH BLAH BLAH. Your comment is exaclty what happens when people, and i include the central ticket office dont understand the FULL facts in the case. The road to my right was coned off for aprox 100 yards behind me due to road works in the area which are clearly in the picture. With 2 cars at the ligths this effectivley meant the copper had just drove down a dead end. Where exactly would you suggest the copper manouvered to?? knight rider style turbo boost over us or hard right turn through a line of cones or maybe even go left over the pavement. The guy in the left lane was oblivious to what was happening the guy infront of me moved so i followed making way in the right lane. At this point the guy in the left lane moved, so i stopped not needing to move now. Unfortunalty i was 3 feet over the line. If one of us didnt move then the copper was going nowere. Yes i also know that i shouldnt have moved and the only person needing to move was the guy in the left lane he is still in the same problem as me he would still have gone through a light on red and would still have got a ticket. As a highly qualified first aid instructor (outdoor pursuitsinstructor, including casualty evac shelter building and long term casualty aid) i know 30 seconds when needing resus can be too long. Ask your self the question Dave, how far is the ambulance station from your house? How many sets of lights are there for the ambulance to get held up at? Ten seconds at each set of lights the time soon adds up if people dont move!. Same situation again its you on the phone an the ambulance is coming to your house,, would you want people to move?? Oh ye i moved for a copper not an ambulance that doesnt count does it. So lets say the copper was rushing to a report from yor dear old gran a group of hooddies was kicking her front door in? pretty much the same dotn you think. Blues and twos behind you i suggest you move brake the law or not. On a lighter note i didnt get the ticket or the fine as after i went public some one higher up the food chain saw the FULL details and decided to drop it. they obviously saw it the way i saw it and decided it was a bad idea to have the population refusing to move. sorry for my harshness not wanting to cause offense but i wish people would stop quoting the law when really the law needs changing for certain cases. I still know the law saws dont move in the same place again i would still do the same and face the problem again.
  10. I wasnt really bothered about not gettign an official letter of "getting of with it". I personaly am more concerned about the press coverage i had, and now as you can see from the link people are saying they wont move out of the way. I cant tell them diffrently as i still dont know the answer to what to do. Ticket no ticket, move dont move, my other concern is i still dont know what to do should i be in same situation again.Nothing and i do mean nothnig was ever actually cleared up everyone had a comment to say but no one told me the rules,For every expert that said move one said dont move. So what do you do ???? because i dont know
  11. The verdict is still out officially. After talking to a soliciter friend of mine, who suggested going to the press, i had massive coverage. Just about every paper in the country ran the story not to mention tv and radio. I was even requested to go to Glasgow to do an interview for a radio station up there. BBC radio 2 requested i did and interview with them about a new "wooshing" type siren the police where thinking of using, they wanted to know would it of helped in my situation. I did do this interview as my problem was not hearing the sirens just what to do when i did hear it. I didnt hear nothing from nobody offical. As in the paper, i was told what to do and what not to do and everyone else (the public) thought it was silly to be done for it. No on ewho commented on what i should or shouldnt have done bothered to contact me to get the details and all gave comment from a gereral overview of the case. I was told that service vehicles are trained to go around stationary vehicles, but as the road was coned off to my right for 100 yards behind me there was no where for the police van to go around, i did for a split second consider getting out and moving some cones for them. I was also told that i didnt need to move as the vehicle in the left lane should have moved, the driver in the left lane was oblivious to what was happening and didnt move until the car infront of me moved when i moved the car int he left lane must have thought the lights had changed and just drove off. Anyway i heard nothing from no one,so i sent in the ticket and and didnt hear anything back from that either. My local free paper (who started the press rolling) did ring me to say they had recieved a statement from police to say they wasnt going to proceed with the case but i didnt hear from the police or the ticket office. So long story short, officialy nothing happened. I didnt get the fine or the points but no one bothered to tell me that officially or explain why i "got off with ti" what happens if i was in same situation again??? i still dont bloody know. I would like to add that in the daily mail posts on the link i added one copper does state that most of the blues and twos calls by police were a waste of time and not life threatening i think he was implying i should have ignored them. I would like to add again if an emergancy service vehicle does come up behind you please move after all it could be one of your relatives they are rushing to !!! Oh yes if you cross the white line you get a ticket end of story. i heard from one woman who cantacted me via the press who had a ticket when she braked in the wet and skidded about the same distance across the line as i was. She said she should have put her foot down ont he gas not the brake and will do next time.. Problem is its a machine no human link in the chain, a camera diesnt see situations and make a judgement. I did contact the ticket office who told me the police van in the picture wasnt evidence of what i had done and therefore i still was getting the ticket, so even with humans in the chain there was still no judgment just cross the line get a ticket i am a darlic , issue ticket issue ticket exterminate drivers
  12. sorry re post i forgot i had put this up already
  13. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12...n-999-pass.html Theres a real legal issue to debate, thats me in the pics so debate away i of course know the out come of the case.
  14. i perfectly agree with all the posts above. If police want to stop you they will, wether its legal or not is another story. I own and have owned, in my time many old escorts. I got stopped all the time in them, funny thing is i havnt been stopped once in the Lexus. Its about what you drive not how you drive it. I dont drive the Lexus any diffrently from how i drive any other of my cars but have never been stopped in the Lexus. I once got stopped after a little moon lighting work ( decorating for a pal) i was on my way home at about 2am. I was in my escort the copper turned round to come after me. It was back in the day before all your records were on computer. I explained i had been moonlighting, and they couldnt work out why i had been out workign at 2 am thats why its called moon lighting i explained. Any way bottom line was the copper almost i repeat almost admitted i was stopped mearly on the basis of the car i was in "its the type of car that doesnt usually have all the correct paper work" is what she explained. The copper was also slightly peed of that i didnt stop when she flashed her headlights at me. I simply explained to her that flashing headlights didnt mean stop. i didnt even stop when she put the blue lights on either i simply moved over and waved her through she followed me for about half a mile before i eventually stopped (at my house). If its a patrol car then you dotn have to stop. As far as i know only a traffic car with a """STOP POLICE""" sign can pull you over anyway, any other type of blue light means get out of my way its a warnign to say they are there not stop. i recently had this expalined to me after this happened to me http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12...n-999-pass.html
  15. Indicating is not a legal requirement and as such i dont think a copper would ever stop you to tell you it was. Lights are not a legal requirement on your car so indicating cant be. I recently drove a 1934 Austin which had semi fore type indicators people beeped at me all day for not indicating when i clearly was they didnt understand the semifore type indicators, Either that or they clearly wasnt looking for them. I dont think people would understand hand signals either.
  16. Got your mail today Matt will sort out my end tomorrow. Expect A knock from post man early next week
  17. Like i mentioned i or no one else can diagnose a fault from our arm chairs so what ever the fault were all guessing of what might be wrong best thing to do is get it plugged in and stop fitting parts that may or may not fix it. I recently towed collected a car from a local garage to mine. they had the car for a month and had fitted all sorts of stuff idle control valves throttle position sensors crank sensors. By the time i got it i couldnt work out what had been done and not done. Fixed it now well last week actually, turned out to be a set of plugs that started all the problems. Car was idleing a little lumpy would suddenly jumped 2000 rpm and engine temp warning light came on. The plugs had a hugh gap causing resistance in the coils making them work harder one eventually popped (and replaced with a real cheap one) this then inturn cause a spike in the ecu and blew that as well. so there was 8 fault codes in the ecu as one of the control chips had burnt out. New ecu (free running one that gets round having to reprogramed) 4 new coils and a set of plugs, runs sweat as a nut now. Just to point out my pals is200 had a lamdba sensor fault in november last year. I fitted a new one no problem (front sensor). He rang me last week as the light had come back on and as he works near Lexus stockport called in and had it plugged in again. Front lambda sensor they told him. So saturday i got his car in to replaced the failed sensor (dodgey part not my fault). Turns out Lexus had taken it out to "clean it" to see if it fixed the fault. They some how managed to cross thread it and i had a hell of a job geting it out. In the end i had to remove the manifold and after tryign to retap the thread cut out the threads and welded in a threaded collar i took of a scrap cat i had in my workshop. refitted manifold with new sensor mmmmm light didnt go out when started up. So pluged in again and just reset light. i didnt bother to check the codes as Lexus said what the fault was. Strange,,,, yesturday the eml came one again. After a phone call to me he took it back to Lexus guess what its the second sensor thats gone now funny isnt it. In my opinion it was the second one on the first place and my graft saturday was a waste of time. Can i or my mate proove it ?? no bloody chance. Thats my luck out i guess for trusting some one elses diagnostics. So anyone want a front Lambda sensor full working order you cant screw it into your manifold though its got no threads. Moral of both stories get your car fixed at a reputable garage that knows what they are doing and dont start guessing.
  18. Just to add the trc light comes on when the ecu decides the engine has a "bad" fault and cuts in the trc to limit your engine power to reduce engine revs to stop you doingit more harm when driving it home. Dont know what Lexus call this but most manufacturers call it "limp home mode" its really a restricted power mode just to get you home or to nearest garage anyway.
  19. Lambda sensor/ oxygen sensor theres 3 on the is wich one did you change? theres a sensor after the cat wich will detect if the cats working properly or not thats its only job. If the front sensor is lazy it will/could cause the engine to idle high then low as it constanly cycles from rich to lean (properly working it cycles very fast and doesnt affect idle speed.) the cat needs emissions from rich and lean mix to work correctly and as such switches the fuel mix accordingly. A cat can colapse and block an exhaust they are a very fine honeycomb inside and can easily block. they usualy colapse and rattle but could still block the exhaust. A car with a de cat may not show a fault as the cat actually does very little to lower emissions only lowering the out put by the last 0.2% aprox. You said you changed the coil pack ?? theres 6 on the Lexus and there not cheap either. did you change all six??. stop guessing pal get it plugged in properly and get a proper diagnosis. I been a mechanic all my working life and have suggested what it could be With out seeing the motor dont take my advice for fact. Show me the car i diag it in 5 mins. Save some money get it diagnosed properly every diag kit i have is mobile so if it still doesnt run get someone to come to you.
  20. Drive car normally until you get to 4th gear stick your foot down hard if the revs go up and the car doesnt surge forward definatly the clutch.
  21. I have a few scan tools ranging from £40 Argos one to $£4500 top line snap on one. I use my Argos one alot only gives code and roungh idea of fault. Things like lambda sensor, sensor one bank two. with a code. Doesnt pick up all fault codes either i can get more out using my other kits but as a guide i love it
  22. Lexus are all rear wheel drive and dont have c.v. joints. Rubber on metal sound could be broken spring and rubbing on the tyre. first answer sounds best to me something bent the back plate and its now touching the brake disc.
  23. Good point. 50% worn means half left as well as half worn out. Average car does at least 30,000 on a set of pads less if an auto of course but more if motorway miles. If your pads were half worn then thats aprox 15,000 left on the pads, dont know about you but thats a years driving for me and then some
  24. very well spotted first one is bondmicro car. 3 wsheels 50cc engine (still has kick start on it) one door can turn within its own lenght.
