  1. Hi Peter, I do have to agree with you on that some suppliers espescially it seems classic car part suppliers are exceptionally good. I have a 1964 Ford Corsair and whenever i have needed parts service has been excellent. To be honest though with the Lexus i think it must just be the case that the parts might not be in high demand when compared to fiestas, focuses, micras etc. Someone at work did suggest i buy a modern reliable more economical car. I didnt wish to offend them so actually told her that whilst their focus was a nice car it was not for me BTW i will upload some pics of my corsair and lexus to my album later today if i get chance You should have educated the focus owner about the joys of owning a lexus. Considering the age of the LS, it's amazing how they are still some years ahead of other vehicles. A remarkable achievement!! Anyway, if you were to give her a lift in your car she may just leave the focus at home...
  2. Could you post some pictures? Hi - dont know how to post pics on here, but my car was the one that was featured, not the one they purchased and did up for sale. Beautiful car, if you have an email address i can send you the video and pics of how the car looks now. Got clear indicators, halogens and 18in alloy wheels, tinted windows, top condition. Regards ike I've sent you a personal message with my e-mail address. Many Thanks.
  3. Hello Adam, Welcome to the LOC. Sounds like you took a gamble with your purchase with partial service history. The LS 430 is a lovely car. I would advise you to do a HPI check on it if you have not done so already. This will probably reveal a bit more about the history. Also, you might have to locate a specialist near you to give the car a good going over. Either that or your local dealer will be able to pinpoint your stereo issues. Other members who have had these issues in the past will contact you. Parking sensors have been discussed on this forum so many times that I've lost count!! I think they are a bit expensive from the stealership but the other members will point you in the right direction, I'm sure. Enjoy...
  4. The LS 430 is a great car but does it have a few more niggles than the LS 400? Methinks because it has few more gadgets, more to go wrong...
  5. Thanks for your message Rod. Quite a few people I know had their cars damaged by other idiots over the past couple of weeks. I just hope the law comes down hard on the uninsured and drunk drivers especially during the festive period. On a positive note, Happy New Year to you all!!!
  6. I came out of my house on Christmas Day only to discover a huge dent on my passenger door. (drivers side) I suspect some drunk idiot hit the car and drove off. Probably uninsured as well. I hope the police prosecute your mondeo man asap. My door will cost me no less than £300 to fix as part of the drivers side door and rear wing got scratched as well.
  7. I have to say the new Jags do look rather nice. I think they'll be a bit more reliable than the previous models although nothing will beat the Lex of course!! I tried looking at other marques recently to see how they compare to the Lex. It's amazing to discover how many problems the so called prestigious brands suffer from... Scary stuff. As I always say, Thank Godness for Lexus!!
  8. Steve. that a proper detailed engine bay. you put me to shame. from the picture in your main details your lexus is an L reg like mine. Unbelievable. How do you start to get things looking so good? Sorry to highjack your posting Bus39 but you have got to agree, thats a sweet looking engine. If this works......hurray I've faffed on for ages but eventually managed to get an image up. I've never used Photobucket or anything like it before so will try to put images on in order, but not tonight. Your car looks really good. How long have you had it for?
  9. I'm sure Dajwid will agree but it's good to see all you guys rooting for him not to give up. Part of what makes the Lexus name special!!
  10. Yep, got it today :D 1996 P-reg, 136k miles, basically pretty tidy. There's a touch of surface rust in a couple of places, and it's been very badly re-sprayed at some point (maybe hiding something? But all the panels look straight & the gaps are good) - but Dad's pretty handy with the spanners & the wire brush, so he'll probably fix the rust issues & have it sprayed back to the green-over-silver that it used to be. It's now a sort of black colour, although in my headlights on the way home, it looked green/silver again... very weird. The price? 800 quid + 74 commission to the auction house. Bargain. And yes, it drove the 200ish miles back home perfectly. Proper job! Excellent result. I'm happy for your Dad. Hopefully he can have the luxury he deserves after all these years of Scooby hardness!! (I love the Subarus as well though).
  11. I agree with you Mark. The MKIV should have fold down seats at least even if the previous models did not. Apart from that, Perfect!!
  12. Boy, I thought this stuff only happened to me. I've had a look at certain cars in the past, owners telling me this and that about the condition only to end up disappointed when I see the car. So now I have one rule: I demand to see recent pictures taken of the vehicle coupled with a HPI check before I even think of leaving my house. The recent pictures must also include the current registration number to prevent them from posting archive pictures. Most of the cars I've seen since then have been true to the description given. Good luck with your search at the auction house. I'm sure you 'll find a good example soon.
  13. Hello There, Any reason why you "defected" from Mercedes? Just curious...
  14. I would have thought 17mpg from a Rarri was good, 8 - 10 mpg seem to be the norm...
  15. Hi you probably have the dhp ( dynamic handling pack wheels fitted) so the tyres are correct. as for the lpg conversion a brc plug & drive multipoint kit works really well ( works perfect on mine anyway) well worth doing if your planning on keeping it. Lexusdriver, Have you checked prices for your tyre size? I checked via google and found them for around £180.00 each, on average. Not many manufacturer's make 245/50/ZR17s though unless others with the DHP pack on this forum can advise you where to get the best prices from. Cheers.
  16. I was astonished by the refinement, quietness and tranquility of a short ride in a friend of a friend's Mk4 Lexus LS400 recently. I believe it was on an S plate, so possibly a 1998 car. As a result, I am 95% certain of purchasing the very same model. I have been told (by a number of different sources) that similar aged Mercs, Beemers or Audis do not get remotely close to the Lexus in terms of refinement, build quality and hushed silence. Welcome to the LOC Dr, The LS 400 is the godfather of them all. Get a clean example and you won't be disappointed. Apart from handling, The Germans are no match for this sophisticated machine.
  17. Well... I did warn him!! Welcome to the LOC, I have to wait a bit longer than you as I have a few projects to finish before I get my LS MKIV but post a few pics this weekend if you get the chance. You'll find that these cars are wonderful to drive. After a year of ownership, your heart will stiil be yearning for it. If you have a partner, beware of competition!! Cheers.
  18. Thanks for the info! All the stamps are from Lexus dealers, so I will aproach them and see what I can find out. Yes the 72 hours will probably feel like 72 days!! Can't wait to get in it and fiddle with all the gadgets and spend my day off driving around making the most of the V8! Will post some pics asap... 19. I would suggest if you're keeping the car within the warranty period, then main dealer servicing would make a bit of sense. If you're going to have the car for more than a year, a good mechanic will do. Just get the service book stamped.
  20. I've just been talking to Lexus in Croydon. They recommended using 5w40 fully synthetic oil for the LS 400 (MKIV). There is no need to use 20w50 because the car has a higher mileage, I've learnt that from experience. Most modern engines should only use the recommended oil from the manufacturer from 0 to whatever thousands of miles.
  21. This car looks fantastic. I'll have one if my lotto numbers roll up!!
  22. Greetings, I just had a look at your old LS400. Boy, your car was gleaming!! Do you miss it? What did you use to polish / clean it? Cheers.
