Hi, I agree with BenIS, £50 would not even scratch the surface for a good quality detailing job, I have just spent £150 and that is just on products, and not the necessary equipment to do a really good detailing job. A good detailing kit would cost around £300 I tend to keep my cars really clean, wash at least 2 times a week, polish every 5/6 weeks, and use a detailing spray in between the main polishing, so my cars never get to the stage were they need a good, professional, detailing job, and if you follow a few simple steps you can conceivably cut down on swirl marks. Use the two bucket system, use good quality micro fibre cloths, and a good sealent or polish. So if your car is just dirty, with a few minor marks, then yes you could do a pretty good job your self, but if you have paint swirls, paint decolourisation, and paint blemishes and you want to bring you paint finish back to looking like new, then you need a good detailing job witch could cost you up to £700. Hi Kev, and welcome to the club The GS 450h is a very nice car I brought a new one in 2008 and have recently sold it and replaced it with the new GS. The hybrid system and batteries are warranted for 5 years, but as far as I am aware there has not been any major reported problems here in the UK or in the US. 07 / 08 reg did have a recall for valve springs, so just make sure if it was required it has been done. As for the extended warranty, this is more of a difficult question to answer, some people take extended warranties out on washing machines. Microwaves, freezers, tv’s ect, if they go wrong then they are worth it, if the don’t then you have wasted your money. I personally have never extended my warranty because I only do around 5k mile a year, so my 08 reg had only 17k miles on it when I sold it. If your going to buy a o7 reg then it is already going to be 5/6 years old, I believe you can only extend the Lexus warranty for a car up to 7 years old. It cost £1000 for a years Lexus warranty, so if you want piece of mind then it is worth it, or put the money in your bank and keep your fingers crossed. You could look at a third party warranty company, Quinton Wilson ( old top gear presenter ) owns a car warranty company that I have been told its very reliable and has the same cover as a Lexus warranty. I am not 100% sure but I don’t think any warranty will cover the batteries. The service interval is every 10k miles, this alternates from a minor to a major service. 10k, 30k, 50k minor 20k, 40k, 60k, major the minor service should be around £250 the major service should be around £400 at 60k you have extra replacement parts, plugs so your probably looking around the £600 mark. My brother in law has a IS 250 its 4 years old but only done 17k miles, his oxygen sensor went, he wasn’t very pleased I think it was around £260 bill, after a lot of phone calls he managed to get it replaced free. He was told if the car is not used regularly the sensors tend to rust.

Hi, some dealerships do a wheel exchange, you take your car in , they swap your wheels with another reconditioned set and of you go, I haven’t any idea on price but it cant be anyway near 2400 euro, or as noby76 suggests get yours refurbished, again some companies you can take your car in at 9am they take of the wheels refurbish them, put them back on your car and you pick it up that evening.

Hi, I had a 2008 GS 450h and didn’t have any of the things you mention, so it would have to be newer than that. My new 2012 GS has everything. :)

I am not 100& sure, but once the 3 year warranty from new has run out unless you immediately extend it I don’t think you can just bring a car back into warranty, if you could then everyone who suddenly got a major problem would do it. Saying that I don’t know how these aftermarket warrantie companies work, but they must also have some sort of protection system in place or they would have the same problem.

Hi Had a word with our USA friends a managed to get a copy of there manual, as you can see they have this option,and the default setting is set for OFF. this section is missing from our manual, you wouldn’t believe how option settings vary between different countries, still doesn’t explain how my car locks on moving away. If I get any other answers from the US I will let you no.

Hi No your not going mad or blind I cant find it either, I just assumed that the doors locked automatically when the car started to move, mine somehow must have been set to do that as I haven’t as far as I no touched anything. If you go to “ door lock settings “ I have mine set as :- Every setting is set to ON except for:- Unlock on second key turn….OFF Remote 2-press unlock……...OFF Select doors to unlock………DRIVERS DOOR Try and adjust yours to the same setting and see what happens, if that doesn’t work then I am not sure what to suggest as I have also had a look through the manual and cant find any thing about doors locking on moving off. I shall put up this topic at another forum I visit and see what answers I get.

Hi Go in to SETUP VEHICLE VECHILE CUSTOMIZATION DOOR LOCK SETTINSS There you have the option for various settings I have mine to lock all doors when the car moves off and all doors unlock when put it into PARK.

I would give Lexus customer service a ring, they should sort it out for you. It may also be possible to polish out the mark depending on how deep it is, I don’t mean just normal polish, you can get special polish to get marks out of glass, in the US they use it to get marks out of there headlights witch is caused by driving on fast sandy roads ( sand blasting).

Hi I believe the Hybrid system, including the batteries are warranted for 5 years. The GS450h has been in production since 2006 and as of yet I haven’t herd of any major hybrid or battery problems, from this forum or another Lexus forum I am a member off witch is mainly US based. The Toyota Yaris uses the same hybrid system and I think they have been going since 2002 and again I haven’t herd of any major problems, the way I look at it is that Toyota / Lexus would not want any problems with the hybrid system, this would have a major effect on new and second hand sales, who is going to buy a used car if the batteries need replacing in 6/7 years?, on the other hand they wont last for ever. As for mpg, PJS is right, planting your right foot to the floor is only using the 3.5 ltr petrol engine so your mpg is not going to be great, it’s the hybrid system on this car witch give it a reasonable overall mpg. I only do 5/6 mile trips, with two 300 mile round trips in a year, my average in my old 2008 GS450h was 29 mpg, it shows how thing can be improved as my new MK4 GS450h is already showing a average of 37mpe after only 250 miles and this is only 5/6 mile trips. I don’t agree that a GS300 or 460 is better I owned 2 GS300’s and was only getting 24mpg, don’t no about the 460. and the 450h is much more powerful than the 300 and slightly quicker than the 460. Depending on what year car you buy there was a recall for “valve spring” replacement, so make sure if it was needed it has been done. I think it was 2007/8 models. Boot space is small, witch again has been much improved on the MK4, (50% bigger). If you’re a family man with 2 kids I think a UK holiday would be out of the question. When you test drive it take it on all types or roads, the MK3 did have problems with rattles and creaks, I had to take mine back twice for this problem, the first time was a creak coming from the front screen, they took the front dash out and re sound proofed it, and the second time was a creaking drives seat. Other than that I have had 9 years of trouble free GS300 and GS450h driving and fingers crossed that will continue, in my opinion these cars are very well built and will go on and on. I put one CD in my 6 CD changer when I first got the car - its still there and I never play it, everything is on my USB stick. What we need now is a better way to navigate around that mass of data. Currently I only have the option to select next/previous folder or next/previous track. (Any different on yours?) What we need is a search/selection facility. To be honest with you I don’t really listen to any particular music, my daughter put half a dozen CD’s on the USB for me and what ever is playing I listen to. You can apparently according to the manual select artists or song titles using the voice control but at the moment I am just happy to get the car moving. Lol.

I haven’t driven many miles yet (only 140 ) and only 10 of these miles were on the motorway, but so far I am very impressed. The seats are 18 way adjustable so its not to hard to get comfortable, the side bolsters are adjustable and although I don’t tend to go round corners that fast I find they keep you held in the seat a lot better, in the Mk3 even going round a corner at a sensible speed it was like sitting on a space hopper and you found yourself trying to sit upright. I an just over 6 feet tall and even with the sunroof there is plenty of headroom, there is also good head and leg room for the rear passengers, although if you have 3 in the back the middle person, especially if it’s a adult might find it a bit uncomfortable due to the wide drive train tunnel. I was a bit concerned that with 19” wheels and low profile tyres the ride may be a bit hard but I would say it is just at smooth as the MK3 until you put it in sports or sports+ mode then it is a lot firmer, although I think a lot of this is due to the much stiffer body, with much less body roll than the MK3 even in normal & eco mode. The steering is a lot lighter and more precise than the MK3 and with the rear wheel steering in sports+ even more so. The interior looks stunning and everything feels solid, the multi media screen and mouse drive takes a bit of getting use too, but once it is adjusted to your own preference works well. The Mark Levinson sound system is amazing, although I was a little disappointed to find it was only a single play disc not like the MK3 a 6 disc holder, that was until my 16 year old daughter explained to me about using a USB, beyond me but she has put all my CD’s on a USB stick and it plays superbly. As a hybrid it is supposed to do a combined figure of 45 mpg, so far I have only managed to get it to 35mpg but I only do 5/6 mile trips and I hope this will improve as time goes on. Hi, I test drove the GS 250 while waiting for my 450h to be delivered, at the time they didn’t have any 450h demos, and was quite impressed with the cars performance considering the weight of the car to the power output. I had a 2008 GS450h and that was good, but this new one is better in every way and although I have only covered 150 miles I have managed to get 35mpg, not too bad as I only do 5/6 mile trips, I am hoping to get that up to nearer 40mpg as time goes on. And as for customer care I don’t think your beat Lexus
