  1. Agree with Steve, leave the Air con on all the time, I just set the temperature I want and leave it, I have had a few different makes of cars but for some reason the Lexus mists up more than any other, the only other thing I can think of is that there seems to be a lot of filters in these cars for this that and the other, but not sure if there one for the air con or if that would even make any difference. Good luck and let us no if you find any cure
  2. Most people would agree that the way you drive a car has a big affect on your fuel economy, this is the case with the 450h, but in my opinion also the type of driving you do. If you drive a lot of motorway then you are just using the 3.5 ltr V6 and very little use of the hybrid system, I find I get around 37 m.p.g with the cruse control set at 70ish on the other hand if you drive a lot in say London with a lot of stopping and starting with an average speed of 10mph then the hybrid comes into full affect, using the batteries to cover miles without using fuel, improving your m.p.g My car is 2 ½ years old with 9700 miles on the clock so as you can tell I don’t do much motorway driving (approx 700 miles a year). Most of my journeys are to and from work, about 6 miles each way, so the car hardly gets a chance to get warm, through the year my average has been 28 m.p.g. As for the boot size, if you a family with 2 kids and you are going on a 2 week UK holiday, then forget it, if like me your kids have flown the nest then change to the 450h, you wont regret it, the power, acceleration, and smoothness is amazing compared to the gs300. Now just waiting for the new GS hopefully out in 2012 Chris
  3. Years back I used to hire a nice car as a treat to go on Holiday in, normally it was a jag but on this occasion the hire company told me that the jag was unavailable but I would get a Lexus Legato I had never even herd of Lexus never mind a Legato. And that was my first experience of driving a Lexus, a year later I got my first Lexus gs300 mk2. and have been with Lexus ever since, as far as I could tell the only difference was the leather upholstery. It might sound silly but I think it had something to do with Lexus wanting to sell luxury cars to vegetarians :P
  4. Hi, if you have a owners manual have a look at page 101, this may help although I cant understand how this sensor is activated if you haven’t locked the car door, it may be because you have taken the key fob away from the car & this may automatically activate it, this would not happen if you left the key fob with the person in the car, or There is a “ intrusion sensor” in the car witch detects movement this can be switched off from the drop down control panel by your right knee, this may work. Chris
  5. Hi If you can contact other Lexus dealerships, you would think that they would all charge the same but this is not the case, I got what I think is an amazing deal when I brought my new GS450h, four services for £1060, my local dealer wanted £1580 for the same thing, ok the disadvantage is that I have to travel 80 miles round trip, but even taking account the cost of fuel I still recon I am saving £90 per service.
  6. Hi I have had 4 wheels changed under warranty, to save time they asked me if I would take the car and the new wheels to there local tyre fitting company. I was also concerned about the sensors so I kept an eye on what they were doing, the guy told me that they mark the collar and nut holding the sensor on and then count how many revaluations it takes for the nut to undo, then when they put it back on they just tighten it up by the same amount of revaluations until the marks line up. This was done 6 month ago and touch wood I haven’t had any problems. Hope this info may help
  7. Hi Carl Lexus dealerships and personal are very good, but then they do want to sell you a car. I think the main difference with Lexus compared to other manufactures is that after they do sell you a car you are continually treated in the same way, I don’t think 3 month goes by without some sort of contact from either the dealership were I brought the car or Lexus customer care department. Lexus don’t sell many cars in this country so they try very hard to keep the customers they have, and to make you feel special. As for the 450h, I love it, very few about so it stands out, very quick and reasonably economical. Just remember they are recalling 450h’s registered from 2006 to 2008 for valve spring replacement, so depending what year car you buy this may have to be done other than that I cant think of anything else to be concerned about. Chris
  8. Hi, my experience is that most good, responsible and honest smart repair people will not attempt to smart repair a stone chip or scratch in the middle of a large area, wing, bonnet, boot lid ect..the only way to get a good looking repair is to have the hole panel re sprayed
  9. HI, I was using the leather wipes that you can get from most car accessory shops, but was not happy with the cleaning results. My fault for having cream leather. Then I remembered the cleaning pack they gave me when I brought the car, its part of the inchcape group. I have found it very good for cleaning and conditioning, I have just re ordered another bottle of leather cleaner from “home serve car care kits” ( 0870 320 0244)..£9.99 for 150ml..iam sure you will be happy with the results.
  10. Hi, I wouldn’t have thought they would be too concerned about you going over by just 1000 miles, I brought my Lexus on September 1st, this will be its 2nd service and on both occasions I have not be able to get it booked in till at least a week later due to work commitments, unlike yourself I don’t get any way near 10k miles, in fact mine goes in tomorrow for its 2nd year service with 8500 miles. What I find hard to understand is why its 10k miles or 1 year, ok I can understand 10k miles but what has time got to do with anything, looking at the service book it looks like most of the stuff replaced on a 2 year 20k service are oil’s, do oil’s degrade after time as well as miles?, I am surprised with the technology in oil’s today even after 10k miles it needs replacing. Thinking back all those years to when I had a mark 1 escort, I remember when I used to change the oil it used to come out black and like treacle, in fact the oil coming out of my Lexus after 5k miles is probable cleaner than the oil I used to put in my Escort..lol.
  11. Hi, If I remember correctly the standard audio equipment in a 2006 GS 300 SE-L does not play DVD’S. unless it has a upgraded system in it. If it does play DVD’s , all you have to do is put a DVD into the slot, press the AUDIO button and the display will show the DVD in the list. You cant play the DVD on the move , the hand break has to be firmly on before the DVD will play, you only get the sound while moving
  12. Hi, and welcome, as they want £6 each for a valve dust cover, £6 each for a wheel nut & £125 for the Lexus badge on the boot, I would consider it, Ok I now these aren’t warranty items but it does show the price of parts. Saying that you have brought, in my opinion, from one of the most reliable car manufactures .( he says waiting for his valve spring recall ) I have a friend with a 20 year old, LX 460 with just over 200k miles on the clock, the car drives like new & other than the normal wear & tear items all he has had to buy are 2 batteries. I normally keep mine until they are 4 years old then change it & as I cover less than 5k a year I have so far taken the chance & not taken out a warranty for the 4th year. I think you would be looking at around £1000 for a warranty
  13. I don’t think they would give you anything on paper when the work has been done, but it would be on the cars computer record, so if you intend to buy one privately, just ring any lexus dealer with the reg no and they should be able to tell you the cars history. Once a manufacture has placed a recall on any thing to do with a particular car or model it doesn’t matter how you have come by the car , dealer or privately any work will be carried out free of charge even if the car it out of warranty. Now go and buy one, I don’t think you will regret it. :D
  14. Mine needs to go in, haven’t had the official recall yet but when I rang them ,they told me it would be around a 8 hour job, so they need it over night, not really looking forward to it, I am not confident that mechanics these days have the ability to strip down engines, hopefully I am wrong, its only done 7k and runs as quiet as a mouse, ill probably get it back with a box of bits in the boot that they have left out because they didn’t now were they went. :o .lol
  15. My car that I brought from new defiantly didn’t come with run flat tyres, so not sure why yours did. As for the suspension, you can adjust that by selecting sports mode anyway, so that’s probably why you got a blank look, anyway I have the original Yokohama tyres on mine, its just had its 2 year service with 9k on the clock, the sheet shows 6mm tread on all 4 tyres, not sure what they have to start with, they seem to handle well for me although I am a fairly gentle driver, although I did have some problems in the snow, I think they are around £170 each..
  16. Not to sure how accurate the measurement is that you need, I don’t know anything about exhaust sleeves, you could tie a piece of string tightly around the pipe, then cut it with a knife, then measure the length of sting , a bit heath Robinson I no, but would give you a rough I dear
  17. My car doesn’t need a M.O.T, but as a walked past a garage the other day and saw a car having a M.O.T done with the engine running and a pipe stuck up the exhaust checking its CO2 , I started to wonder how would they check that on my 450h, if the car is hot when I take it in the engine wont run, well not for some time & even if it does it wont for long, so has any one got any idea on how they do it?. Also Iam not sure if I got the wrong end of the stick, but last week when I took my car in for its first service I was eves dropping on to sales people, I herd one say that he has just returned from Geneva and had seen the NEW GS, the way he was talking Iam sure he didn’t just mean a face lift, any one no if a new one is due & if so when?
  18. Hi, Have you tried Lexus customer services, I only had a small problem about 8 years ago, but found them very good even though the car was 6 years old & out of warranty, admittedly this was a mechanical problem, but they did go halves with me, give them a try, lay it on a bit about how disappointed you are, you never no.
  19. Hi, I have just purchased some new valve covers from a seller on e-bay called “uforeborn” they have the Lexus embalm on the top and look very nice, good quality around a fiver I think, better than the original Lexus ones at £6 each. Just a bit of advice, don’t use the ones that use a locking grub screw that are suppose to be pinch proof, if kids do try and nick them, they may damage your tyre sensors, and at £150 a go that’s not good, mine have the grub screw but I am not using it, just tighten them gently with a spanner & keep it in the car, also put a little Vaseline on the thread & remove & replace the caps once a month to stop them corroding on, I had this problem and had to use mole grips to get them of, I had every thing crossed that I didn’t damage the sensors, luckily I got away with it.
  20. Sorry to hear, I have had them taken in the past and would agree kids for there bikes, anyway I got a set off ebay a few months ago I have seen them on regular all I can say is check on there every day they will be on again
