  1. Be careful, if the wipers freeze to the windscreen you will burn out your wiper motor.
  2. I don’t know of anywhere in your area to get your wheels refurbished, but the chrome inserts can easily be removed by undoing to small nuts from the back of the wheel. You may have to get them all done as it may be difficult to get a exact colour match.
  3. I always take my cars to a M.O.T station that ONLY does M.O.T’s That way I am pretty sure it has failed for a reason and if I take it back to then within 10 days the re M.O.T is free.
  4. I am NOT a mechanic although I used to tinker with cars years ago before they came unbelievably complicated, I would have thought if your oil, and water levels are ok and the temperature gauge is showing normal running temperature then you haven’t got a problem, the exhaust gets hot but if yours is getting overly hot its difficult to say so perhaps a visit to a qualified mechanic may be a good I dear just in case and for piece of mind.
  5. Hi I would have thought 29 mpg with a average of 24 mpg this time of the year would be about right for a GS300. mine used to do around 24 – 25 mpg in the winter and 30 mpg ish during the summer although I only do short trips Your cooling system should be pressurised when the car is hot, make sure your overflow tank is up to the max level. is the heater working ok, is it blowing out hot air, if not it may be a faulty thermostat.
  6. Hi I think the best thing to do is to test drive one, as we all have different opinions on what we call a firm or bumpy ride. I had a GS 300 with 17” rims before the MK3 450h, and I felt the 450h with 18” rims was a harder ride, so I was even more concerned when I brought the new GS 450h f sport which has 19” rims, but after a test drive, and with the new suspension set up it drives as smooth as the GS300, that is until you put it in sports + mode then things really stiffen up, but even then I would not call the ride hard or bumpy. Remember the 450h is a sporty car with a 0 – 60 of less then 6 seconds
  7. The short answer is NO, the GS hybrid has been out since 2006 and other than the odd reported problem, as you would expect in any car, they have been as good as gold. Even if you read a USA based form you won’t find many complaint’s. Average Fuel consumption won’t be much different between the 300 & 450h, but in performance they are worlds apart. Drive both, but I am quite sure your go for the 450h as long as you can cope with the MUCH smaller boot. The only major recall I can remember was valve springs, witch I believe affected 2007 & 2008 models, so if you buy one around that year just make sure that work has been done, not really a problem if it hasn’t, its all warranty work.
  8. Yes your right BJ430 it is no longer a option for the reasons you stated, personally I didn’t see the point of it, you had to be fairly close to the car before it worked, just as quick to get in the car and do it manually. I also had the same problem as Mickey, luckily for me I noticed it before it started to rain.
  9. I have never had a problem with Lexus alloys corroding, keep them clean and regualy polish them with a good quality rim wax. These wheels are of my 2008 GS
  10. Possibly some residue left on the windscreen, that the dealership have not removed completely before you picked the car up, or have you been in any automatic car washes?, ( hopefully not ) but the spray wax they use can sometimes cause a problem. Try giving the windscreen a good clean, that may do it, if not I would take it back to Lexus, they should replace the wiper blades for free
  11. Hi A couple of months ago I tried selling my GS450h 2008 (58) , 17,000 miles, and in immaculate condition, privately, without any success. It was up for £14800 ono. At the time I had ordered a new GS and hat not negotiated a PX price with the dealer, as it turned out they gave me £15500 for it, then put it up for £18500 and sold it 3 days latter to someone who lived 3 miles from me. I just come to the conclusion that people are concerned with spending that much money buying privately and would rather spend a bit more knowing they have the backing and warranty from a dealership even though the person who brought mine could have saved themselves at least £2000.
  12. Defiantly shop around, I use the comparison sites to find the cheapest insurer, but never buy through them. Once I have found the cheapest one I go directly to there own web site, and normally its cheaper. I don’t know if you use a cash back site, I use “top cashback” So this year my insurance was cheaper with AXA and got £38 back just by buying the same insurance through the cashback site. I would even get a new quote on line from the same insurer you are with now, you might even find that will be cheaper.
  13. Hi Gra56 I ordered my car in February, 4 months before they were launched in the UK, so mine was delivered with the first batch to arrive in the UK. If I remember right it had 9 miles on the clock.
  14. I was in contact with KDS Keltec a couple of months before I picked the car up, I also visited a showroom were they had covered cars. I was going to have the bonnet and bumper done but I couldn’t live with the line on the bonnet and to have the hole bonnet and bumper done they wanted £1700 the bumper alone was over £700. As I don’t do much motorway driving I am fortunate that in the past I haven’t suffered to much with stone chips, in the 4 years I owned my last GS I only had a few small marks, nothing much to concern me. In the end I didn’t have the bumper done as I felt that if I did get a lot of chips I could spend the £700 getting the bumper re sprayed, possibly even twice for that sort of money.
  15. Hi silver arrow and Gra56, Lexus have very soft paintwork witch scratches and chips easily, have either of you protected your paint work with a sealant, from the dealership or done it yourself. I had it done at the dealership but have also applied some myself, I don’t have any chips or scratches so far ( touch wood), but it may just be a bit of luck, plus I don’t do much motorway driving. I would recommend Wolf Hard Body. I have put on 2 coats and it certainly repels water well. The link with the guy trying to scratch his car is a video from the manufacture, so you can make your own mind up about that one.
  16. Hear you go, mind you this is from a US forum so I am not sure if it would work on our cars, also seems a lot of work to me, http://www.clublexus...ile-moving.html
  17. If you have just had new pads fitted then they will take a while to bed in, they may feel a bit spongy at first, try not to brake hard for the first 500 miles after this time they should be fine.
  18. Hi Jonathon, Lets see how enthusiastic you really are.... http://www.clublexus.com/forums/automotive-care-and-detailing/131273-show-prep-detailing-guide-and-definitions.html have fun
  19. Hi Brian Were the engine is concerned 250, 000 miles plus is easily obtainable, if the car is looked after properly. As for the hybrid system, who knows, the 450h has only been in production since 2006, but I have seen some for sale at this age with 120k, 130k miles on the clock and still going strong. I have only herds of a couple of battery problems, both of witch have been heavily subsidised by Lexus. The Toyota Prius has been around since 1997 and although I don’t tend to keep up much with this car I haven’t herd of any major hybrid problems.
  20. Churchill was the cheapest for me too until they said that because of the value of my car they would not insure it for theft unless I had a £200 tracker fitted ( plus £100 a year subscription ), total £300, and this would only be necessary for the first year, as after this time the cars value would have dropped to the extent that the tracker would no longer be necessary for there insurance, :iraqi-info-minister: so I went to LV who did not insist on a tracker and was only £48 more. This is why you don’t here of insurance companies going bust, the next thing will be that it must be kept in a locked and alarmed garage 24/7, and you are not allowed to drive it on a public road.
  21. Didn’t they give you the option of paying £95 , doing a speed awareness course and not having points put on your licence?
  22. I think this is a dealer only setting, although my 2008 GS 450h used to lock when you got to 15mph, but it did not unlock when you put it in park, you had to unlock the doors using the door unlock button, my new 2012 GS450h, does not lock when you get to 15mph, and apparently the dealer cant change this, but if you lock the doors manually with the door lock button you have a option in a menu to set it so they do or don’t unlock when you put it into park.
  23. The headlights are Bi-Xenon, you can get the LED headlights as a option but not on the f sport. Yes my mileage is a lot better in this one, I used to average around 28 mpg around town and 37 mpg on a run, now its showing 38 mpg, around town, as for a long run I haven’t done one yet, plan on a trip to Norwich in December so I will see what it can do.
  24. No were near 50 mpg on any of the three GS 450h cars I have owned, lets face it, it might be a hybrid but as 70mph your just using the 3.5 V6 engine so there’s no way you are going to get 50mpg. Best I get is 42mpg and that’s if I keep it at around the 60mph mark, if I go to 70 / 80 mph then it will drop to 38 mpg.
