  1. I cant remember, there was a thread on here not so long ago about it. Which was then confirmed by various members 'in the know'. But yes your right, and I for one will be switching the bulbs back to standrard and then plugging my HIDs back in as soon as I leave the MOT station. lol Taking it to another level... P.Lindblom actually has to remove his supercharger every year because it will fail an MOT with one fitted! (lives in Sweden)
  2. it depends on what wheels he has on the back, because the is200 came with 7 inch wide rims fitted front AND rear. however i believe the is300 came with slightly wider rims, either 8 or 8.5 inch wide i think. some of which have found they're way onto the odd is200. so if either of those options apply to his car its possible they are the correct tyre for the rear. ive heard of people stretching small tyres onto big rims to increase sidewall strength. but i dont know about doing it the other way round. if they are proper lexus rims they will have the width stamped into the inside face of one of the spokes. you'll need to take them off to see it though.
  3. "What next headlights modded to hids illegal?" well now you mention it.... you will actually fail an MOT as of Jan 2012 if you have aftermarket HIDs fitted. :( although there may be certain exceptions with the IS200 which Ormi noted because it has both headlight washers and headlamp levelling fitted. who knows though.
  4. just to clarify, i wasnt saying i use mine as DRLs. just that its all they would be good for now, and making them useless wasnt the point of me fitting LEDs, that was just to make them match. :( but someone said they couldnt be DRLs because of the height? i drive past a new mercedes every day which has LED strips at the bottom of the bumper in a sort of sideways 'L' shape right next to its foglights. and my opinion is, that i do think on certain cars it looks good. but in general, im not really bothered unless they're blinding me, otherwise, its up to the driver if he wants to chance it with the law.
  5. yep mesh is all fine, and theres no cracks or anything in it. :) i believe the caps are actually attached to the washer jet stalks, so without washers behind them they wouldnt have anything to attach to. i guess you could always glue them on as long as you wernt planning on fitting washers at a later date?
  6. well a 1245 width tyre sounds like something you'd find on a drag strip to me...but lets just say he was given a 245 wide tyre. then yes that would also be wrong if its the standard 17" 5 spoke wheels your talking about. 1. the standard width for those rims is 215mm, so they are too wide. 2. the number 50 on the tyre means that the wall height is 50% of the width. which puts them well over the normal rolling radius, and may cause rubbing issues over bumps etc. standard tyre (45% of 215mm = 96.75mm) your pals tyre (50% of 245mm = 122.5mm) STANDARD tyre set up is... 215/45/17 as far as i know what i said there is correct based on what you said and my own knowledge, but im sure if anything is amiss someone will correct me shortly. :)
  7. i guess it depends what sort of foglights you have, the standard ones are quite bright. but i swapped mine to LED's to match my HIDs and while the light output from the LED foglights matches them perfectly, they produce absolutely no light on the road because they dont give the right light pattern for the type of reflector in the unit. so all they are good for is DRLs, but because of this same reason, id struggle to dazzle anyone unless they were to get on their hands and knees infront of the car. lol so whats the biggest issue with foglights being on? is it that its hazardous to other drivers because of excessive light? or just because you think it looks naff?
  8. im sure i could, as ill be able to send it in the box my TTE one came in. we use TNT for sending stuff out at work so ill find out how much it will be when im back in on the 4th. as for price, the only guide i have for that is another guy who sold his standard bumper with a small scuff earlier this year for £100 + postage. mines got a few stone chips as you'd expect, and a small area near the o/s headlight washer which the chips away guy said looks like the laquer has come away from the layer beneath it but could be easily rubbed back and re-laquered if required. not massively obvios unless your studying it. so id say £90 plus postage? also im assuming you want just the bare bumper, no headlight washers etc. although obviously you'll want the black caps for them.
  9. depends how long you can wait, ill be fitting my TTE bumper in the next couple of weeks so ill have my black standard bumper available then.
  10. power won't be the issue, we used to go on holiday to the very north of scotland every year with our massive twin axle caravan. and our 2.3L M Reg Toyota Previa used to cope fine (took its toll on the clutch though) you'll just have to be careful about the weight inbalance, parents chose the previa because it was the heaviest car in its class at the time, because you dont want too much unbraked weight in relation to the weight of the towing vehicle. my dad was an articulated HGV driver as well which was a bonus, but as long as you dont go slamming the brakes on you should be fine. assuming there arent any other more mechanical reasons why it cant be done.
  11. im not sure on the oil cap, but the radiator cap is an 'N-Type'
  12. There are loads of topics on this subject, just do a quick search and I'm sure you'll find out what you need to know.
  13. yee i know what you mean, maybe a lighter flywheel would help the throttle response because i know the is200 does have a rather heavy one.
  14. only real way of getting more power out of it is a charger/turbo. :winky: and i dont want to disapoint you, but i think from 2003 onwards they used H3 bulbs in the fog lights not HB4 because they changed the design of the fog light unit because they kept corroding. all the online bulb finders seem to have no clue this happened though. :duh: mine is a 2003 and ive ordered a set of THESE from ebay for it, 68 is the most LEDs ive seen on an H3 type bulb.
  15. bought my IS as a 20th birthday present to myself in august :)
  16. if i remember rightly, i believe it was Ormi who said the biggest benefit as far as cats go, is to get a decat manifold which removes the pre cats. and just leave the main one in. i could be wrong though. also, what LED fog lights have you ordered? and welcome to the LOC :)
  17. not specifically what your looking for but i found this DIRECT.GOV site that lets you type in your car registration and either your V5 document reference number OR MOT test number, and will give you the complete MOT history of your car, including advisory notes etc. and they dont charge you for it either. :)
  18. i know there was a member a little while ago that used a clay bar on his headlights i think, and it really shined them up nicely and got all the crap off. Possibly Jimxms, i know hes pretty hot on his detailing techniques.
  19. i dont think its for the brightness, why change the dash lights? it doesnt make them any brighter, but it looks cool. :)
  20. i thought they were all plastic fronted with a glass lens?
  21. Here's a few links to some off eBay. You'll need to make sure you get the right version, as pre 2003 models used HB3 bulbs, and 2003 onwards use H3. Also make sure to get the seller to confirm the condition of the item if your buying second hand pre 2003 versions as they had a tendancy to corrode badly (hence the change in design) Link 1 Link 2 Link 3 Link 4 Link 5 Hope this helps :)
  22. i think the back should be fine. but you MIGHT get a bit of rubbing on the arch liner at full lock on the front, im sure someone else can confirm this though.
  23. they will physically fit yes, but the inside edge will be 10mm closer to the suspension, and the outside edge will stick out 40mm further than the stock rims did. you can use THIS calculator to work out any other combinations you try. :) stock wheel offset is 50mm by the way.
  24. the front interior light doesnt come on when you unlock the car, its only the rear one that does. yes you can fit LED replacements such as THIS but while it looks good and gives a nice ice white glow to the car, it provides absolutely f*ck all useable light because the LEDs are too directional. so ive left the front one standard incase i actually need to see anything in the car. and at some point ill be replacing it, probably with one of THESE which should give a more even spread of light. :)
  25. Personally I'd just write something along the lines of 'Jihad is coming...' on the side of it. I'm pretty sure it would get moved rather sharpish...
