  1. Scorpion - Why would I wana do that when the disk comes off freely ??? It's the shoes that are stuck outwards i.e. no movement when the footbrake is depressed ... Nobody here hd to change their parking brake ??? You lcky, lucky people ...
  2. Jeezus !!! My local Lexus (Manchester) wanted £68 +VAT for the shoes and duly recommended I tried somewhere else, my local brake factors charged me £18 + VAT for OEM shoes ... All I need to know now is how to fit the bloomin' things !!!
  3. The 'drum' is the disk itself, the shoes are forced outwards onto the inner surface of the disc when the brake is applied ... None of you guys changed the shoes before ? I guess if like me, you only ever leave it in park and not bother with the hand (foot) brake ... warning then, this can become seized over time hence my problem of not being able to drive off after my brother -in-law applied the footbrake ... hence the need to remove and change the shoes ...
  4. Err what retaining pins ??? I suggest you have a look if you haven't already, they are totally different to other brake shoes setups hence my plea for help ...
  5. Anybody changed the parking brake shoes on a Mk1 GS 300 Sport before ??? Had a look yesterday and can't figure out how they come off ... also anybody freed it from sticking out before ??? Cheers for any help guys ...
  6. Agree with Rodders - DBA one's found in the group buy from TDI are the mutz nutz - not only do they look great they really stop the car when you need to ... :winky:
  7. Yup -well documented - happened to me :shutit: Look nice but really easy to buckle ... :yack:
  8. Sounds good Craig - I have Philips Blue Vision on now as well - seeing as you took the plunge then I'll fit these babies tommorow ... :winky:
  9. Same here - that's why I can't join Gold !!!
  10. I got a set from the same guy after reading your thread - I got them on Monday but haven't fitted them yet - cheap as chips ! Are you saying DON'T fit the High beam and low beam together ??? Why ?
  11. Funny but I thought Gary C had sold his GS too ? Anyway it's only the brake light bulb if you press the brake and the light stays on ... otherwise suggest fluid level, caliper (sticking ?) and worn pads ...
  12. Thanks Rodders - have fitted the DBA discs (excellent choice !) and they look fappin' fabulous only prob is that they do look a bit small now sat behind a set of new 18" Toora Platinums ;). I've fitted Lucas pads as they were the only ones I could get at short notice (only £30 'ish). The car (especially braking) is totally transformed !!! No juddering etc. after carefully bedding in, the car stops with some urgency !!! A tip - make sure your guide pins are in good nick too - new boots and a proper clean inside with brake cleaner does wonders (and may also be the source of judder probs). So in order to totally cure my braking probs:- New wheels to replace the 3 buckled Sport ones Cleaned guidepins with new rubber boots New DBA discs to replace cheap replacements (turned blue due to excessive heat !) New pads to replace cheapo no name ones Now I'm back to !!!
  13. Woo ! (and indeed) Hoo ! :D Got my new DBA discs this morning - well done to Mark for getting them to me so soon. ;) Only thing is they have IS 200 written on the box - as Mark asked me if it was for the GS or IS (mine's a S1 GS 300 Sport) I'm kinda wondering if he's sent me the wrong ones ... I also get the feeling that the IS and GS share the same parts for discs but can anyone verify this before I get them out ofthe shiny boxes and trial fit this weekend ? Cheers Guys Pete
  14. Thanks Chaps - Stuck my name on the group buy. I changed the discs and pads because they started to judder when braking, only to find that the replacements have gone the same way after only a couple of months (and yes I did bed them in properley). Mind you I only paid £85 for a pair of front German sounding replacements so don't hold out for them much on such a heavy car. The pads were also a bit dubious - Apex or something dodgy sounding, so probably got what I paid for. I always wanted a set of drilled and grooved anyway so these DBA look alright (must say I've never heard of them before but about the same price as Black Diamond ones). I don't think my calipers are to blame as I can push both pistons back with my fingers ! Anyway one of the calipers has been reconned as it was indeed seized. I'll let you know how I get on with these but can anyone recommend a set of pads to go with these discs ??? :o Cheers Pete
  15. Can anybody recommend decent uprated Front Discs (with details of where from) for my Mark 1 1995 GS 300 Sport as they keep warping ??? Cheers
  16. Don't mean to get your hopes up mate but I bought my car from a non Lexus dealer who had 4 GS 300 Sports for Sale ... the one I wanted had 1 Saab mat in it (!) and nothing else - I asked about this and he said I could have the ones from the black one next to it (which had beige carpets and beige interior so must have been stock) mind you that was 3 years ago and the cars were a 95 and 96 model GS 300 Sport ... might have changed design since then ? Hope you get this sorted ...
  17. Dunno about original but my GS 300 MK1 Sport had no mats so we 'borrowed' them from the black one next to it (with the dealers permission of course !) They do have the logo on and holes on both front and rear mats though are beige in colour (my car is Silver with Grey Leather) but hey, they were free !
  18. Seems a bit much Chris - I got them for that price but mine were 245/40/18's !!!
  19. Doubt this idea will hit the ground now that Bison has ditched his Lex
  20. Err ... and you can go how fast on UK roads ??? Lexus parts are expensive - the car cost over £40k new !!! Of course Ford and Lexus aren't even in the same league nor were they pitched at the same 'class' of buyer ... that's like comparing a Bentley to a top of the range Hyundai ... If you like speed etc. get a fast car - if you like refinement/luxury and the prestige of owning a motor vehicle then get a Lex and stop this 'my car is faster than your car' malarchy
  21. A nice motor mate - surprised you wanna sell it ?
  22. IMO - Japanese tyres such as Toyo/Falken/Yoko's offer the best grip/wear rate/price ratios as well as funky tread patterns than the other so called 'big brands', only problem I found is that they are slighty noisier ... I've got Dunlops on at the mo (only coz I got them free !) and impressed with reduced noise (too new to notice wear rate) I suggest you try www.mytyres.co.uk for reviews and prices ...
  23. Could also be that the 'condensor' has packed in - I know mine has and will try and claim under warranty ... (3rd party warranty as mine is a 95 series 1 Sport)
  24. I agree with AltezzaScott (after getting a setfor my GS 300Sport) ;)
