  1. Having what I thought was a dodgy battery I purchased a new one and fitted it only to find out, when all the idiot lights lit up that the alternator was shot , had it repaired (diode pack) (£60.00 repair cost) refitted it and all is ok , except I now have an amber brake and engine lit up on the dash . The car goes into Lexus tomorrow for the rear reversing camera to be looked at so will get them to give it the once over at the same time
  2. There are quite a few alternatives on e-bay, for instance try" Lexus GS430 poly bushes " , there are also poly bush manufacturers that can be found using the internet, I had poly bushes on the steering rack and rear suspension (new arms on the front) on my Soarer with no ill effect in fact only improvement , also I have poly bushes on the steering rack of my Surf, so having used them I can vouch for their performance.
  3. I have been probing about with my multimeter , 6 volts going into and out of the camera connector, but I have noticed that the wire colours don't match up on the plug to the socket, anyway have noted this and have arranged to have the car looked at at Lexus Cheltenham, (where I know all the Toyota personnel who change into Lexus mode depending on which door you go into, never let me down on parts for the Soarer or the Surf ). It goes in on Sept 22nd , am hoping its only the camera , but will update after.
  4. I will do my utmost to let you know what the problem is/was as I hate threads that start , the problems solved but no one knows how or why or what the true fault was.as its never published.
  5. Coincidence here , Its a long story and not to go into it here but 30+ years ago I also was an electronic engineer (onc, apprenticed at Plessy) but got out of that rat race, and followed my real love timber, I changed into a carpenter and never looked back and am still working at it (under my own terms) self employed at 72. But I can still remember how to use a multimeter.
  6. Hi Piers , yes I remember you posting many moons ago, I am still a visiter having only just lost my Soarer of 13 years, it was like losing one of the family a truly memorable and almost unique car.
  7. Thanks John you are a scholar and a gentleman, but not necessarily in that order , at least i now have an idea where to start, I've checked the under bonnet and boot fuses so must now check the under dash fuse box this weekend, then get the multi meter out and start checking round again if all the fuses are ok. I would imagine that the GS system is very similar I wouldn't think Toyota would create a different system if a proven one already exists.
  8. Thanks for that at least I now know the voltage is correct , I need to stick a couple of pins in the supply connector so I can be sure the voltage is getting through the connector, I am also going to find out the cost of a replacement camera this week end , however it is not only the camera images that are missing, the images for the ultrasonic front and rear detectors also do not appear so could be something more forward of the boot.ie a switch malfunction a connection fault or a connector unplugged , I have checked all the fuses under the bonnet and in the boot, still have to investigate the under dash fuse box. Is there a post any where which itemises what the boot fuses are for as the angle makes it impossible to read them even with a mirror.
  9. Having written off my V8 UZZ31 Soarer when it committed suicide coming out of a roundabout , I decided to buy a 3rd gen gs 430 sport black on black , walnut wood , everything works except the reversing camera any ideas why ? I had a look today and found that I had 6 volts going into the connector but I could not get a voltage across the other side of the connector which seems very strange to me though the holes to get the meter pins in were very small so couldn't be sure I was getting a contact also the battery decided to fail at the same time so need to investigate further, but would be interested if anyone has had a similar problem.
  10. I know this is an old post but just for information , I have recently lost my V8 due to an accident it was mechanically perfect even at 24 years old, I had owned it for 13 years ,the point of this post is to point out that any Soarer can be delimited , the delimiter moves the 180 kmh to 180 mph the same delimiter can change the digital speed numbers to read in mph and its usual to blank off the kmh sign , the actual top speed can be up tp 160mph dependent on age and condition of the car , in my V8 I have reached 140 mph and it still wanted to go.
  11. Yes, I for one use super unleaded , mainly because I drive a V8 Soarer which is supposed to run on 100 ron petrol , super unleaded is usually rated at 97 ron but when I want that little bit extra I also use a petrol addative which is supposed to add an extra 2 ron , I can feel the difference in the initial acceleration and when I kick down so to me it works!
  12. My 92 UZZ31 v8 takes 9005's in the inners and outers the locating lugs may need some filing to enable them to rotate for a proper fit , it is possible to buy them from toyota/ lexus dealers but I get super bright ones from Halfords.

    Soarers

Does it really matter ? Lexus is a quality vehicle made by Toyota, the Soarer is a quality vehical made by Toyota badged in japan as a toyota on home soil, badged as a Lexus in America where it was designed so in my opinion it can or could be badged as either, mine is badged as a Lexus which was on when I bought it, but purists think it should be badged as a Toyota with the winged lion on the front ( not a gryphen as it is commonly called, Vauxhalls have gryphens), frankly my dear I don't give a damn, its just a great car to drive.

    Rear Lights

you can get different rear lights for the soarer off of e-bay type in toyota soarer parts or from soarer sites that have shops, there are also supra style lights that look quite good being four seperate round lamps. the one problem you have is the lamp blown alarm circuit when you alter the number of bulbs, there are ways round this but to long to go into here as they are well documented on other sites.
  15. with reference to the flashing and not working part of the dash, in the soarer world this is known as "blinky dash" and with a transistor and a couple of capacitors can be put right easily by someone with soldering knowledge and the correct tools,i don't know if i'm allowed to say this but if you pop over to the Lexus Soarer Owners Club you will find all the information you want in the editorial section of the site. there is also someone on there that will possibly do an exchange emv service repair. Sorry if this contravenes any rules but is the only way i could resolve the question.
  16. WHAT BHP GAINS CAN BE ACHIEVED ON A '31 BY ADDING A BFI + EXHAUST? the story goes that possibly 20 bhp is atainable but i have never seen any proof, i have done it and it certainly improves the performance but what the bhp gain is is anybodies guess.
  17. Hi, if i can just butt in here to ask why i get no signal from my radio. There is a module missing from under the back seat on the far left behind the driver, been told its the tv tuner, there are 4 leads that look like aerial leads laying on the floor under the back seat going nowhere! they probably were plugged into the missing module and are the reason im unable to pick up any radio signal!! Anyone out there that can help? i don't know if i'm breaking any rules here, if i am i apologise to the admin, but pop over to the Lexus soarer owners club and get in touch with steve ( puremoto) he breaks soarers and can supply pretty much anything, i and many others have used him and find him most reliable.
  18. i would say yes, i have just changed the oil in my V8 soarer and the sump certainly looked like that, also the veiw under this engine certainly looks like the one in your photos, http://soarer.ace.net.au/oil_and_filter_change.html hope this helps incidently the Ls 400 engine is exactly the same as the soarer though some of the ancillary parts like aircon pumps /pipes etc are different.
  19. don't know whether this is allowed or not but it may be worth your while having a look on the" Lexus soarer owners club" site
  20. i know it may be a bit late to reply to this post but it may be helpful to other soarer owners on here,it is possible to get your soarer parts and serviced at any(well most) toyota dealers, not cheap but cheaper than lexus dealers, also the V8 engine is the same as the Ls 400, so lexus should be familiar with it.
  21. just to stick my nose in here, i got a custom built brass top tank and recored rad (reused bottom tank which also doubles as gear box fluid cooler) for my soarer cost me £150.00 at local rad repair shop, did need old rad to copy top tank , but at least i won't be worried about a top tank splitting again :D
  22. A drift car with air con :duh: most soarers have air con issues either leaks , faulty compressor, faulty compressor clutch, need re-filling etc etc the ones that work have been sorted at cost to their owners, if i'm allowed may i guide this person over to the Lsoc where he will get more information
  23. hi deathby240 the driving light mod is quite easy really just difficult to explain without an electrical diagram to refer to as you so rightly said one side of the lamp(s) is wired to earth(metal chassis) the other would be wired to a live cable, via an in line fuse, which becomes live when the ignition key is turned to its first position and beyond , a 12v lamp with a couple of wires will show a cable that comes live just fit one wire to earth then go round the ignition switch till the lamp lights when the switch is turned, not the one that stays live all the time, break into that cable and connect your driving light ,bingo job done ,an auto or regular electricion should be capable of doing the job if you get into trouble, try the lexus soarer owners club .
