  1. The speakers appeared to be working when I bought the car, I didn't actually check them all, it's just over the last month or so I've noticed the sound coming and going. What I think has happened today is that when the dealer tried to fit the new second rear speaker it wouldn't work leading them to believe it's not the speaker but something else (the Parrot) so they are going to look under the back seats tomorrow to get at the amplfier to se if the Parrot wiring is affecting anything. I guess they will disconnect the Parrot and take it from there. Between the sales dept and the service and the dealer boss they came up with £75 as a goodwill gesture. I have owned the car for 7 months now so I can still use the sale of goods act but the onus will be on me which if the dealer finds that the Parrot was wired incorrectly then I can proceed!
  2. Apologies as this is a spin off to another thread I started. Trying to cut a very long story short... 2 Speakers in my car need to be replaced, not covered by the 5 Year Old Approved car warranty, bill almost £500. Dealer has offered a goodwill gesture of £75. Took the car in today, one speaker replaced but the second at the back is not working at all. When I bought the car from the dealer 6 months ago it had a top of the range Parrot hands free system fitted (by the previous owner) Today the service guy asked when I had had the h/f fitted as it could be that causing a problem with my speakers, I told him the car came with it. It is now going back in tomorrow to be further looked at. The Dealer is throwing in an hours labour free but after that "anything they find I will be liable for". The worse case scenario is that the h/f was wrongly wired in and I may need a new head unit...£1500. I think as they sold me the car with the hands free system alraedy in place, if it is this that is causing me problems is the car "fit for purpose"? I have spoken to trading standards and they believe I have a case under the sale of goods act. I am waiting to see what tomorrow brings. Anybody got any opinions either way? Is it just my tough luck or should the dealer pay? :tsktsk:
  3. Thanks, Pretty sure I'll get nowhere from past Lexus HO experience! Dealer has offered me £75 so I'm still facing a £415 bill. Guess I've just got to grin and bear it, not sure about my next car purchase though.....
  4. Hi Just had a bitter experience with regards to "Lexus" 5 Year old Car Approved warranty. I'm not stupid and saw that multi media systems are excluded on the Lexus web-site however seeing as Lexus used car adverts always show the symbol - MM - when the car has a multi media system I naively thought that as my SE had only the normal radio/cd I would be covered! WRONG!!!!! I've had the car just four months and now the dealer I bought it from has said (their words) the speakers are "shot". The claim has been turned down and I am left with a £490 bill. I have made my feelings very clear and I am expecting some support from the dealer after only 16 weeks ownership. I'm not holding my breath though. Am I being unfair in expecting help from the dealer, do you consider the Lexus wording misleading? Why not just say in-car entertainment is not covered? Opinions much appreciated!
  5. Hi Just had a bitter experience with regards to "Lexus" 5 Year old Car Approved warranty. It's nothing to do with Lexus and you are absolutely right that multi media systems are not covered. I'm not stupid and saw this exclusion on the Lexus web-site however seeing as Lexus used car adverts always show the symbol - MM - when the car has a multi media system I naively thought that as my SE had only the normal radio/cd I would be covered! 6. I bought my 5 year old Lexus from the main dealer as it seemed a good idea to have the Lexus warranty particularly when the strap line is that it's peace of mind as it provides the same level of cover as a new Lexus....of course tyres/batteries aren't covered and another exclusion is multi media systems. Lexus never describe a bulk standard cd/radio as multi media, they only put MM on their used car ads when it mentions a multi media pack so would it be wrong to assume that if you only have a standard cd/radio you don't have a multi media system? I ask this question because having only owned the car for 4 months it is now discovered that some of the speakers are "shot" (main dealer words). I naturally asumed that it would be covered under the warranty and in fairness the service manager said he had sent off a warranty claim but I had the uneasy feeling that he wasn't very confident of the outcome. So I called Lexus this morning to ask what they defined as a "multi media system". Lexus couldn't/wouldn't answer and eventually put me through to the Lexus 5 Year Old Approved Warranty company, so not really anything to do with Lexus then! I was told in no uncertain terms that no stereo system and it's components were covered and in the warranty booklet it states this so am I ****ed? I am waiting to hear from the dealer, I have sent an email expressing my concerns and asking them to make good the claim should the claim be turned down after only 4 months ownership. Is this a fair request do you think and do you think a standard radio/cd is a multim media system? Maybe I'm jumping the gun somewhat but I am sceptical.. many thanks
  7. Car went into Lexus Bristol today, it seems that the nearside speakers are on their way out! the service manager and the salesman who sold me the car seemed surprised (I don't belt out music either)! I bought the car six months ago as a Lexus 5 Year Plus Approved Car with a years warranty. I hope this covers the speakers, I asked the question to both dealership men and I have to say their replies weren't exactly effusive! The service manager said he had sent the claim off to Lexus and would call me....... Has anyone else had experience of claiming on this particular warranty? Fingers crossed.
  8. There should be a guide on a plate inside the drivers door frame, mine is set at 32F 34R as per the suggestion
  9. I have a standard Lexus radio fitted in my 2007 SE. Over the last 3 months I have noticed that on local stations the signal appears to come and go, it doesn't appear to be a problem with R2/R4. Based on previous cars this erratic reception is not because I am out of range as my other cars all worked well. Is it just one of those things or based on any experiences is there something wrong with the radio/aerial? I have a Lexus warranty until March 2013, is thsi kind of thing that would be covered? many thanks
  10. Rodders, just read your other battery post, yes the 444771587 s4 battery 158 is the one, about £55
  11. www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Lexus_RX400h_3.3_2007/p/car-parts/car-electrics-and-car-lighting/electrical/car-battery/?444771587&1&14674bd843cc6dfe4b2f4658df82d4c594012e2d&000020 I used Europarts, typed in my reg and t came up with either LION or Bosch, as the latter was the one recommended on here that's the one I chose, Europarts deliver or if you live near a depot you can collect Hope this helps
  12. Dear all After 16 days in Bristol Airport Carpark it started no problem, new battery - sorted! Well done Bosch
  13. Lexus alloy wheels are very prone to bubbling so check them thoroughly before buying. As I keep saying on here Lexus is a "Premium" brand and costs will be reflected in this. You shoundn't consider one if you are driving on a budget, buy a Ford. When you think about it a 3.3L petrol engine in a big car returning 30/31 mpg? That's not bad. If you can but a Lexus Approved vehicle from a main dealer, you get a years warranty with it. FLSH is a must and personally I will continue having mine serviced by a Lexus main dealer to help when I sell it. There is an Essentials Service Package for older Lexus and if you search the forum you'll learn more.
  14. Thanks to all, bought the Bosch and installed it today, had to re-program the windows and tailgate but easypeasy. Too late to look at the Optima but thanks again
  15. Thanks, battery being delivered tomorrow, colleagues have suggested hooking the car up to an auxilliary battery (which we have at work) while the batteries are swapped over thus keeping the car "switched on". This would then negate the re-programming mentioned. Is this a good idea? I have looked at the hand book and it doesn't seem to hard to sort out the windows and power tailgate. Nothing is mentioned however about the moon roof so hopefully it won't be affected.
  16. Hiya I've decided it's time to put a new battery on my 400h. Lexus have quoted me £130ish supplied and fitted, talking to some independants it would appear that it's not just a simple swap over, things have to be reprogammed and as I am a total learner at technical stuff there's no way I can be bothered to source one myself and fit it. Is £130ish a reasonable price from a main dealer? Thanks
  17. No worries, thanks for getting back. Part of the deal when I bought mine was that the dealer had them refurbished and to be honest they aren't too bad at the moment!
  18. I have an 07 which I've owned for about 6 months with no problems. Lexus generally is well known for it's reliability. Do not think about buying one without a FLSH, I bought mine from a Lexus dealer as an approved car and it came with a years Lexus warranty. It was worth paying a little more from the dealer for the peace of mind. Have a good look at the alloys - it's quite well documented that most Japanese alloys are not as good as they should be, costly to put right! I too, am a little concerned about the battery issue when leaving the car for some time, but it does seem to be a luck of the draw thing. Otherwise no problems and very easy car to drive/enjoy. One other thing, you are buying a "luxury" brand, if things do go wrong it's not going to be a cheap fix, it does annoy me when people complain about their costs. If money is tight buy a Ford! I hope you find what you are looking for.
  19. Hi, how much does it cost if you don't mind my asking as Lexus UK don't give a rats **se about their customers
  20. I tried unsucessfully to get my wheels changed or some sort of token from Lexus UK on my 2007 and got a blunt no! You are very lucky!
  21. Hi Had my RX400h now for about 4 months, I have not seen the mpg go lower than 29.7 this is made up of about a 25 mile commute daily combining urban and motorway. We have also been down to Cornwall and up to London driving at about 80/85 and still it returns high 29's. Driving smoothly is the key. I think the Lexus will fulfill most of your requirements although you should remember it really is a "softroader" and therefore muddy fields would probably defeat it. It should be fine for country lanes and part snow providing you have decent shoes on it but it's never going to be a cross coutry beast.
  22. Good luck with dealing with Lexus UK, in my opinion they fall far short of their supposed superior customer service, thank goodness their dealers do grasp the meaning! I exchanged emails with the CEO of Lexus UK but no idea how to look after the customer. I hope you fair better.
