  1. Good advice all round, particularly from Dan D, you must not loose site of the fact that Lexus is perceived as a "Luxury" marque and as such owning a Lexus is never going to be a cheap affair. Yes lesser makes may go wrong more often therefore more visits to the garage but Lexus spares are not cheap and main dealer costs are not cheap. To be honest if you are concerned about fuel economy (amongst other things) maybe the RX400h isn't for you?
  2. Look on Autotrader and see if there are any vehicles similar to yours, also look on the Lexus web-site used cars to get an idea of what a main dealer might be looking for, then adjust your price? Nip in to a big superstore and look at Parkers in the magazine aisle? With regard to Hybrid batteries I believe it's virtually unheard of for these to fail and need replacing and I think anyone serious about buying a RX400h would know this and not make a big thing about it. On a personal note I wouldn't buy any vehicle with a tow bar...if you've had it fitted yourself fair enough, you will have the reasons why and what sort of use it's had but if it was already fitted prior to your purchase then you may not know it's past and I would think most people would want to question it's purpose? When I bought mine from a Lexus main dealer I had them put in writing that it had never had a tow bar fitted! Good luck
  3. Had a quote when I was looking, quite expensive so as long as you have the cover you want it pays to shop around.
  4. Sorry to put a dampener on things but I'm pretty sure the Lexus Extended Warranty doesn't cover exhausts...I hope I am wrong. If I was in your shoes I think I would look seriously at other exhaust options other than Lexus. When you come to sell the car unless you get a complete "anorak" buying it is there anyone who is actually going to ask what make of exhaust you have or inspect it? Get some quotes from Exhaust specialists and ring round some Lexus Dealers as well and see what figures are involved. Good luck!
  5. Being charged for a courtesy car at a Lexus main dealrer? Outrageous! The only way you should pay anything is if your insurance doesn't cover the loan but that's the only reason. Ask to speak to the dealer principal and clarify the situation and then say you intend to refer it to Lexus UK.
  6. Unfortunately the Lexus Approved Warranty for cars over 5 years old (if thats what you have) is not as comprehensive as the original Lexus Warranty and it's also run by an outside company. What you may think is covered may not be! Best to look closely at the policy to see what is excluded, in my case one of the speakers failed and funnily enough it wasn't covered...£300 bill I am certainly no expert but on a 7 year old car even if its a Lexus there might be some paint failure and putting something like Superguard on it would only preserve the paint work not cure any blemishes. If on the other hand the paintwork was good before the Superguard was applied then I would suggest you have a good chance claiming against the agent who carried out the work, better still if the Lexus dealer recommended the Superguard company then you could put pressure on them too. Good luck
  7. I was given 3 sets of keys when I bought my RX400 last March (its a 2007). However it's one thing to give over your keys when your car is being serviced, I would think long and hard about handing them over to anyone else! It's a way of life in the US regarding valet parking, there aren't many places practising it over here and I would question the insurance aspects of this.
  8. I suppose you have to consider that when you come to sell it if the timing belt is due to be changed you are going to be knocked back on the selling price for that. You are going to have to get it serviced I guess as it appears that you aren't imminently planning to sell it? See if the dealer will do you a deal for the service and belt change?
  9. Just had a 60K sevice at Lexus Bristol, it was an Essential Service with the spark plugs as well, with an MOT, it was £580 and the Lexus stamp in the book.
  10. Thanks to all for your views, thinking about it I am not going to take out the warranty, I hope I don't regret it!
  11. Thanks Guys, Good advice, it's not that I can't afford something going wrong just hate the idea of it! For the record Daniel, car is now 6 years old, FLSH (just had major service) and has done 57K. I do about 7/8K a year and it is looked after. I didn't think you were being patronising at all either, just pleased you and Bobby ook the time to reply! Thanks again to both
  12. Straightaway let me say I have searched for previous posts but none seem to cover (pardon the pun) the answers I am looking for! I have a 2007 400h SE which I bought from a main dealer, it came with the Lexus 5 year old approved warranty and it expires in 2 weeks time. I intend to keep the Lexus one more year so do I buy another warranty? Forget the Lexus one, its £1000. Having looked around the CSMA one comes in at about £510, Quentin's mob is a huge £1000+ and Warranty Wise is about £560. I can live with this as when something goes wrong (thankfully rarely) with a Lexus we are not talking cheap!. The Warranty Wise seems very comprehensive covering just about everything. I am however totally ignorant of mechanical matters and in the case of a Hybrid just about kindergarden level. Therefore is there anything any of you engineers out there think I should make sure is covered as it's a Hybrid? The Batteries (Hybrid ones not the standard one) seem to be no problem - I have searched the internet for any known problems and mercifully they don't appear! I would appreciste any help as before I take out the policy I can call them and get something in writing if it's missing. Many thanks.
  13. Just had a 60K full service on my 2007 400h and an MOT to boot. Total cost was £586 at a Lexus main dealer and the service book was stamped - I have seen posts where it's been said that an "Essential" service wouldn't be stamped but there would have been no way I would have paid that sort of money without it! I've no idea whether the bill was dear/cheap/about right but just in case someone else is approaching the big service I thought I would give a guide as to what you may expect. Normal great service at Lexus Bristol, they have a Diamond in Kerry the receptionist. Cheers all
  14. As I still have my used Lexus warranty until late March I intend to get it checked out asap! Good luck with your problem
  15. I posted a topic similar to this acouple of days ago, could you describe what you mean by rough running? Mine seems to almost rev intermintently although there was no increase in speed. Just wondered if we had the same problem. My 400 is an 07 with 55K
  16. Just came on yesterday. Coming slowly up our road (quite steep) the engine started making a noice like it was gently revving, speed didn't increase but this revving sound was very precise and repeated. This morning no strange noises until I returned home and exactly the same thing again, low speed (less than 10/15mph) and then the revving starts although nothing else seems to happen. Has anyone had anything like this? My Lexus used warranty expires in March so will definitely get it checked out v soon but if there is something known on the forum I can point the dealer in the right direction? many thanks
  17. http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/lexus/rx400h-2005/?section=data This may help you
  18. There are several editions of the RX400h not all of them have sat nav! It all depends on your model.
  19. First time I've heard about an ISC reset, I changed my battery about 4 months ago and since then from about 31mpg I now seem to hover around the 29 mark. Not a great difference but my driving style/commute hasn't changed. I would be interested in the reset (if it's easy to do!) Have searched the forum but can't find any info, does anyone have a link please? I am also aware that as the weather turns the mpg is likely to lessen. Thanks :hohoho:
  20. Mine does this as well, pretty sure it's some sort of design fault, pot luck each time you open the gate as to if its going to stay in the track or not. Of course if here is a solution I too would be interested in the outcome!
  21. Hi, apologies if I may have misled you, my warranty is the five year old one which is run by an outside company, sounds like yours may be the real thing. Good luck though if you have to deal with Lexus uk direct though, quite simply the worst manufacturer to try and reason with I've ever experienced. It's a good job their dealers are better than they are.
  22. If its a Lexus 1 year used car warranty it's not actually run by Lexus! So if you do need to claim best of luck///
  23. Has anyone else experienced a rattle coming from their sunroof when it's closed? It's almost like a cat purring only far lounder and more annoying. When you jam your finger between the metal trim and the actual sunroof it stops. I am going to get the dealer to look at it but if there is a known fault/problem that I can actually use to describe it that would be a help. Thanks.
  24. Update, car back in this morning at 8am, ready at 11am, NO CHARGE! Phew Fair play to Lexus Bristol, they didn't charge me any more labour and the rear speaker didn't need replacing, there was a loose wire. So speaker ok and h/free ok. Total cost £237 for front speaker. Happy Bunny Thanks to all for opinions
