How Popular Is The Rx400H?
teejaybee replied to malibu's topic in RX 300 / RX 350 / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h Club
Personally I don't want to see loads of RX400's, one of the reasons I bought mine was because they are fairly rare overall, I didn't want to be a sheep and of course when you come to sell...... -
Alloy wheels need looking at. Lexus along with most Japanese cars don't have great alloys, they corrode very quickly, if the ones on the car are that way bargain the price down or get them to do something about it. Lexus UK don't want to know if the car is out of warranty even when the product is patently not fit for purpose!

Touch Up Paint
teejaybee replied to CJHYBRID's topic in RX 300 / RX 350 / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h Club
If I remember I got mine from Lexus main dealer quoting the VIN number which also contains the exact paint colour. I'm not a great fan of touch up paint, it's great for short term protection but it can look awful unless you are really skillled. Ive just had my bonnet resprayed and obviously it's a much better solution -
Hello To All Members!

Welcome to the forum. The forum exists to offer opinions, ask questions and of course hopefully get the answers. I have to say what you are planning to do with your Lexus is not my cup of tea, personally I don't think the Rx400h is right for the sort of things you are planning but and it's a big but this is just my opinion. As I said earlier that's what this forum is all about! So while I don't share your ideas I wish you good luck! -
Replacement Battery
teejaybee replied to carbontek's topic in RX 300 / RX 350 / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h Club
Hope you bought a "proper" battery and not a Lexus one! Best one is a Bosch from euro parts. Loads on here about batteries -
Hi Can't help with all but with regard to the Bonnet chips I had exactly the same problem/dilemma. I took it to my friendly bodyshop who I trust implicitly. Like you I had many chips that I think the original owner repaired/bodged with touch up paint. Some were rusty and quite deep. My bodyshop chap advised me to get it sorted out as they would be harder to fix the longer I left them. I had the bonnet resprayed for £260 which I thought was very reasonable and it really lookes great now so my advice? Get those chips sorted pronto! With regard to iPod etc, my car was already fitted with a Parrot Hands free system that includes an iPod connection, works extremely well, very neat and highly recommended. My tailgate seems to work fine, when it closes it does take a second just to engage and fully close but I think that's normal. One last thing you haven't mentioned...I hope your alloys are ok, Lexus (indeed most Japanese) alloys are not great and they deteriorate fast. As I intend to keep my car one more year I am about to get all 4 refurbished at a total cost of £312, which I think is money well spent when I do come to sell mine. Otherwise the RX400h is a great car, enjoy!

Real Mpg
teejaybee replied to mikesands's topic in RX 300 / RX 350 / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h Club
Time to be a bit controversial here....we've all got Lexus's, we know they're a premium marque which brings premium costs. Part of these costs include of course petrol, it's prettty well documented about the range of mpg the RX400h can experience. In my view, and it is only my view, I bought mine because I wanted it, whether I get 26mpg or 36 mpg to me is neither here nor there. I just get on with it and fill it up when I need to. It's nice to see what other people are getting mpg-wise but at the end of the day is it really such a big issue? Just enjoy the car for what it is, after all if a difference of a few mpg is a concern maybe a Lexus wasn't the best choice? I'm sure I'll open up a can of worms here but isn't that what forums are all about? People's views? -
Dipping Mirror No Longer Dips!
teejaybee replied to DanD's topic in RX 300 / RX 350 / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h Club
I have noticed on mine that I am constantly having to alter the angle because after 2/3 reverses they never seem to dip low enough, very annoying -

Does anyone have a link to the VOSA actual recall page, I've just searched VOSA putting in dates from Jan 2005 to Jan2007 and they say there are no results! -
Hi all My alloys are deffo getting worse and really letting the car down, I intend to sell it next March so I am thinking I really need to get them sorted or at least explore costs. More importantly is to get them done right, there are a lot of cowboys out there so can anyone recommend a good refurbisher that can be trusted in the Bristol area please? Thanks

Good Evening People
teejaybee replied to mikesands's topic in RX 300 / RX 350 / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h Club
Welcome to RX400h world! Two things to be aware of, one the alloys on the RX400h aren't great, they can suffer from corrosion and secondly I'm not sure what warranty you have purchased but it may not be as good as you think. Certainly the Lexus warranty for pre-owned 5 year old cars is not run by Lexus but by another company and it does not cover everything that a Lexus new car warranty does... However generally reliability is good so enjoy. -
Rx300/rx400H Alloy Wheels

Hope you get the advice you want! Talking of bonnets I've just had mine resprayed, I'd noticed that just below the grill on the bonnet there were quite a few stone chips that had been painted over, they looked awful and were starting to rust. A trip to my friendly local body shop and they have sorted it out, good as new! If not better -

Sorry, no idea about the compatibility but check very carefully the RX400h wheels as the alloys aren't the most hard wearing and are prone to corrosion! -

Hey, I never claimed that Lexus was a superior marque, what I said was that a Lexus is a Lexus and a VW isn't. I'm pretty certain I'm not "puddled"...just voicing an opinion which surely is the purpose of this forum? As I said enjoy your purchase. -

I think the battery problem occurs with older cars = older batteries, most cars will need to replace their battery after 5+ years anyway. The VW is a nice car but it isn't a Lexus! They are two very different vehicles, enjoy. -

I replaced my battery with a Bosch one from Europarts following a recommendation on here, have left the car for almost 3 weeks with no problems. -

Absolutely no expert on towing......personally I would never buy a vehicle that had a tow bar or had had a tow bar but that's my personal preference! Anyway when I was picking up my RX400h from the main dealer as I was waiting a lady came in with her RX400h, she was pasing through Bristol and was having trouble with her tow bar electrics. The tow bar had only been fitted a day before by a very reputable firm she told me. The service manager (I overheard) told her that 9 times out of 10 people that have non-Lexus tow bars encounter trouble. Now this could be "sales speak" but it's something to consider? Check out very carefully what sort of warranty you get for non-lexus bars. Sometimes it's a false economy trying to save money? Good luck -

Yes Dan D did say it was cheaper to run thatn his Renault but as I said lesser makes can go wrong more often hence higher costs. FYI I've just had the 60K major service including spark plugs plus an MOT for £550 at a main dealer.
