  1. What do the garages do with the corroded alloys? Surely they must have some that they can sell which aren't as bad as others.

I must admit I'm on my 3rd set of alloys now and have only had the car 12 months, only 1 out of the 4 alloys was bad each time. It would be really great if we could buy them (especially for winter when the weather is crap - saves having to worry about keeping them clean if you have a spare set).

    Any ideas anyone???

  2. Yes we have done this to death & I have as well, it's not worth the hassle, try this option instead:-

Do what I did and buy a Tape to CD cassette adaptor - you can leave this in your tape deck permanently, cut the din plug off and wire the cable direct into the cable with the speaker. I've hid my speaker in the passenger footwell (far left) just so I can hear the phone ring. I've also wired the cable from the tape deck through the dash above the heated seat console and then fed the cable behind the glove box ;-)

When making & receiving a call all you have to do is press TAPE and it amplifies the call in the car speakers - it's great!

Dead easy job, you just need to take the glove box off to wire up the cables professionally.

  3. Here's my story:-

Had My lex for 2 weeks (August 03), and was driving to work (A51 from Chester to Stone and was 2 cars behind a lorry with a skip on the back. There appeared to be water dripping out of the skip onto the road splashing on the cars etc etc. When I arrived at work got out of my car and it absolutely stunk of what can only be described as rotten meat ( you know the smell from your rubbish in the bin - that's it!).

If I knew at the time I should have complained to the council and got the number plate.

It took approx 2 months for the lingering smell to disappear, it was coming from my arches, alloys, got in the engine... it was bad & I was gutted.....

Anyway, it's gone now thank ***......

  4. OK, my turn, only just found this!

I'm Mark I'm 33 and live near Chester. I live with my GF and have no kids.

I'm an IT Project Manager for a Logistics Company (yes ! IT ahhhh!)

The IS200 is my first purchased car after opting out of company car scheme. Have driven a lot of nice cars in the past - A4 & 320D (covering some 240k miles between the 2 since 1998!) My job involves a lot of travelling thus the reason for the speed camera detector..... I have been to almost every county in the UK, and it was my love of driving that I bought the IS200 and I think it's great....

Not really in mods' although I do tend to clean the car too much!

I've had the IS200 for 12 months now when I bought it from Lexus Aberdeen and they delivered it to my house (got a cracking deal on it £1k cheaper than local ).

Now on my 3rd set of alloys, nice though as they look like new!

And finally what do I love most about the car....*** it's hard:-

    1) Engine -6 cyl's

    2) Heated seats, leather, design ooohhh

    3) Stereo

  5. Just bought tomtom, ipaq h2210 & wired gps the other week. I have the pda suction fed by centre console on windscreen & the gps is wired behind the stereo and I have attached it on the ashtray and it's get's the satellites no problem...and do you want to know why?......

because us lucky IS200 owners have sunroofs and the gps has line of sight from the ashytray through the sunroof! Works great, wouldn't bother with Bluetooth, don't see any cables.

Oh, by the way have fed all the cigarette charger cables behind the stereo too, dead easy!

  6. Ok I've got the book and it's great - IMMX your next, I reckon a week should do it for my reading (mainly looking at the pictures ;-) )

Dipstick - I'll send it onto IMMX ok, (IMMX - we'll sort out the payment next week, pm me ok!)

  7. What they tend to do is work to the opinion that they wont see you for 10k miles for the next service.

I've just had my discs & pads cleaned by a local garage for £20 and they told me my pads were good for 5k

Much cheaper to buy the pads & get a reputable tyre / brake centre to fit them - I am!

  8. It depends, bertoilli is good or even Pizz Buin ;) sorry!

I've had different feedback from dealers, semi synthetic or fully synthetic or even compound ??? Mine's going in for a 40k soon and I want to take my own oil with me - Sorry not much help, but I'm confused - any help appreciated!

  9. I totally disagree with his comments.

Over the last 6 years I have driven an A4 and a 320d and in 2002 I test drove an IS200 SE manual...and I was blown away by the spec & the sound of the 6 cylinder engine.

It wasn't until 2003 that I managed to opt out of my company car scheme and buy my IS200... nuff said I think.

Both the A4 & 320d are nice cars but they just dont seem to cut the mustard. The seats in both are naff, the stereo is really bad for the £20k price tag, let alone the £100 charge to upgrade the beemer to a single CD player !!! electric & heated seats in the IS200, sunroof, I can go on & on.... Can't vouch for the SAAB though...

And what I really like is the uncommoness of the IS range on the roads.....
