  1. My Stereo has stopped working today (was fine yesterday). The display still works I can play CD's but cannot hear them - has anybody experienced the same problem or any ideas what I can do?

The dealer has said they will look at it, but it's a pain to take it in next week!

I think it's the amp as the audio control button does not work when I press it - is there a fuse for the amp I can locate?

    Many thanks !

  2. Has anybody else noticed that the fuel economy gauge is much better when you press the SNOW button?

Try this - when your crusing say 60 / 70 standard pace, check out the MPG gauge usually hovering around 25-30mpg and press the SNOW button and check out the gauge!!!

On the whole I don't think the SNOW button is a bad thing it just reduces the power when you accelerate.

I used to have a 3 series and that was just as bad in the snow if not worse as it didn't have a SNOW button.

  3. When I first had my IS it had Bridgestone potenza's on it and they only lasted 18k which was no good. When the car went in for a service it needed all 4 replacing and Lexus Chester recommended Dunlop SP9000 (not the Lexus version I might add). They charged me £105 per corner.

I changed to the standard SP9000 and they have been fine - not sure about the handling issue over using the Lexus version as mine has been fine, in fact I'm now on my 2nd set of SP9000's and they are fine - it would be interesting to find out what the Lexus version is like - I know the rim is supposed to be harder wearing but to be honest I've got 30k out of the SP9000's so I'm not concerned.

On prices I recently paid £110 for 1 tyre from a local tyre fitter which I'm not going to complain at as they did a really good job.

It's always best to know your tyre fitter even if they're not the cheapest, I had an incident earlier on in the year where another tyre fitter scratched both rear alloys when changing the tyres - be warned!

  4. Hi all,

Merry xmas to you and all that.......

My IS200 will be either hitting 60k by May 05 or the warranty is due to expire (whichever comes first).

Is it worth extending the warranty through Lexus or an independant or is it not worth the extra expense?

Can you please also tell me what is covered is it just the engine or does it cover things like the electrics (seats / CD player etc) & what about the alloy corrosion?

Many thanks for all who can help.

Also, if you've extended how much did you pay for the year?

    Cheers!

  5. I've no doubt this will be a contentious issue but having looked around the various LOC forums if I was someone who was thinking of purchasing a Lexus I would probably be put off by all the problems owners seem to have.

For example,  there seem to be faults with :-

Tyres.....can wear out after only 8000 miles - USE Dunlop SP9000 mine are running 20k and still look ok!

Suspension.....knocking from both front and rear - nope NEVER

    Engine....poor starting - NOPE NEVER

    Air Conditioner.....nasty smells - CHANGED FILTER £20 - SORTED

Alloys.....suffer from corrosion - YES BUT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY

    Sun Roof....creaks - NOPE

Brakes....loud noise caused by loose/worn pins - YES BUT REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY

Fuel tank......difficult to fill - NOPE NEVER!

    etc,

I'm sure this list can be added to so how come the Lexus marque always does so well in all the surveys? Is it that they are just very lucky owners whose vehicles have never shown any of the symptoms described or are most other vehicles on the road that much worse?

I do have to say that I am very pleased with my Lexus.....maybe I'm just one of the lucky ones (so far)!

TBH I think we're probably being just a tad bit fussy - but in defence of the Car it is brilliant!

  6. Sorry to hear that mate - did you have a camera phone to take those pics - they do come in handy for evidence.

Just make sure you get the best body shop to do the work - probably best to go through a Lexus dealer - I would insist on that - have you any warranty or extended warranty? If so then you have a case to make sure the car is repaired through the Lexus network and not a back street outfit.

Make sure you have your discs & pads checked as well!

If she owned up to it are you now driving a free hired car ? If I remember right if the accident is your fault (not saying it is) but the insurnace usually only hire a car for a short period of time.

    Good luck.........
