  1. I don,t think they get that hot just mildly warm? If you have part of the seat warming then it is either a broken element or an internal connection within the seat. If you can locate the wires as the enter the seat you could do a continuity testing for break in the circuit.
  2. Most councils have robust inspection regimes which are accepted by the courts as being reasonable making claims more difficult. The key is was the pothole previously reported and is the lack of repair outside their priority time frame. If a pothole is greater than 40 mm depth and over 400 mm dia it would be classed as a priority 1 and should be repaired within 24 hr depending on the road classification. If I wanted to claim I would take photos and dimensions, get the repair done but keep all the documents. Make the claim in two years time, you have three years to claim. Leaving it may make it difficult for the council to defend as there records might not stand the test of time and key staff may have moved on.
  3. I doubt the oxygen sensors would cause this as if they are out of spec they would throw an engine malfunction light. The Econ meter is part of what Lexus call the combination meter all of its inputs are fed from the engine ECU if the gauge is errant and all other systems are OK I would suspect the gauge. Which would be a replacement instrument panel.
  4. The MPG readout is what's called a instantaneous type, it takes various information from the main ECU (speed, engine speed, throttle position ...). Being instantaneous it tends to move through the range, off throttle it shows 80 mpg on throttle it varies 20-40 mpg. In urban driving it can seem to be continually moving, on motorways with steady throttle it will show a more constant reading.
  5. Take a look at the how to section Ray put up a comprehensive instruction with pic on fitting the parrot. Very clean instal.
  6. Not that I want to interject in this argument but I used to work for Highways and was involved in winter inspection ahead the gritting fleet. We had massive problems staying on normal rubber (Focus ) switched to winter rubber. The difference was night and day. I don't use winter rubber on the IS because I choose to use other transport when the weather is bad but if I had to then winter rubber would be high on my wish list.
  7. Welcome to LOC fellow Bristolian,.. Post some pics of the IS
  8. So how do stop the engine management throwing up fault codes? The post Cat sensor will detect a fault.
  9. I work at Toyota/Lexus here in Denmark and i got the judder problem. I asked for a price on a new flywheel. The price was £830 and that is the price i get it at, working at Lexus. So if a costumer walked in it would be £1300. :S At that price I'll live with it.
  10. There is an art to pulling off in these cars. I find the opposite There is an art to pulling off? I let the clutch up with Hardly any rev, the car takes up the drive with little forward movement, then drive off! Presume that is the duel mass cushioning the drive? My judder is mainly on hill starts but as I said random, tomorrow she will be fine?
  11. Mine is random goes weeks with no judder then next morning it's a pig. Takes the shine off the car, does not seem to be any cure?
  12. Try this: http://www.tdi-plc.com/catalog/forged-steel-connecting-rods-p-4103.html The one you show will not fit the IS 200 there for a Honda and I can not believe they will be the same and you need two sets to get the six you need.
  13. If you can get £4.5k I would take it, there are loads of IS 200 on the market with reasonable mileage many 04/05 below 4k. Most above 4k are trade sales and I expect they will end up being sold near £4k? Supply and Demand
  14. I,m not aware of any aftermarket device that can code new modules, many non critical stuff can just be changed but security devices, main ECU and airbag may need re- programming with the vehicle VIN details. I've never had to do this and hopefully if the lexus's reputation for reliability is right, I neve will. Does though sound like a dealer job but I,m sure other more knowledgeable may have a work around, there usually is one?
  15. Chris, I would get the battery checked before jumping in. A low battery can be a sign of an parasitic draw. With every thing off connect a amp meter between the battery and battery lead. A resting car should see no more than 75 milliamperes any more indicates a component drawing power at rest. Usual suspects are glovebox or boot lights. This simple test could save you buying a new battery which may seem to solve the problem for a few days?
  16. Ray, the Lexus uses standard EOBD/OBD II socket located on the bottom edge of the dash on the drivers side. This kit http://www.gendan.co.uk/product_STN327.html is rated and can by hooked up to PC, Laptop there is also a Bluetooth adapter. This is a serious piece of kit at a good price. They also sale a WiFi device to live connect to a android device.
  17. Halfords own brand full synthetic 5w/30 @ £10 fro 4 Lts (Sale) this stuff is re-branded Comma similar to x tech. It meets all the specification of both the Lexus and the industry. At that price you can change out every few months. Toyota filters although I have used the K&N it's rated for the IS 300 but fits the 200 perfectly and the end nuts make changing far simpler.
  18. A bit cheaper on Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005GDC46E/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00
  19. Wicked, you are absolutely right but the general buyer might not consider maintenance at that time. In fact they might perceive the IS as expencive car " parts & labour" which as an owner I have found the opposite as the IS is at heart a basic design, which goes to confirm your best kept secret. The tax thing may well change if we get a Tory government again as the tax returns from road tax is dropping faster than they expected. Car manufactures have been able to design cars with much lower CO2 than they expected. This will force the gov to a pay as you go model, although they will probably band this to CO or cost. What ever way they will look to protect the tax take, and I know one thing it never goes down?
  20. I get 350 miles from a tank about 26 mpg, all urban/rural road. If I do M way driving can extend to 30 mpg but that's trying.
  21. Every one is getting out of big cars and opting for efficient cheap to run motors. The Lexus is a great and reliable car but at £270 Road Tax and sub 30 mpg @ 1.30 p/Lt, it just don't make sense to many on tight budgets. Supply and demand dictates low prices we live in a market driven economy. I bought my 03 plate back last March for £2800 with 72,000 miles with full Lexus history, I would not have paid more than £3k for a 10 year old car of this type no matter what it's pedigree.
  22. My standard SE has 26 1/4" (670mm) to the top of the arch and 2 1/4" (55mm) top of tyre to arch.
  23. I have no experience with these but they seem designed for LPG with a ohh they work with petrol as well. The Lexus seems to get upset if you don,t use the correct type and make of plugs, I would stick with Denso or NGK...even Bosch plugs seem to have poor results with the Lexus if you read some post,s. Also noted they list the IS as V6 so have obviously tested there claims...!! Having said all that it would be interesting for someone to give them a go, maybe they are a step up?
